Allocco is the only coach in California history to take two different schools to state championships. He won 87 percent of his games and won a national coach of the year award in 2000. In this video, he shows you how you can teach your players to make better decisions and become more confident in disadvantage situations.
Coach Allocco shares the following in his presentation:
Disadvantage drills to help young players play better and become better decision makers in pressure situations
Strategies to teach players how to get rid of the basketball before getting trapped or double-teamed
Techniques to help players draw defenders to them in order to create shots for teammates
Suggestions for teaching players to get open without the ball
Drills that teach players to be strong with the ball
Techniques that show players how to attack and turn defensive pressure into an offensive advantage
Strategies to teach players to welcome the idea that everything is against them
Using on-court demonstration, Coach Alloco shows you basic drills in a disadvantage situation. His ball handling drills teach players to create space and attack. In offensive disadvantage drills, players learn to be strong with the ball. Defensive disadvantage drills teach key ideas like competition and communication.
One of the highlights of the presentation is the 2-on-1 build up to 5-on-5 back down to 2-on-1 drill. The drill forces athletes to communicate as players move on and off the court. Conditioning is also a factor as players play nine straight possessions.
Coach Alloco’s drills are great for coaches looking for drills that force players to compete. Plus, players will become more confident in disadvantage situations.

Sherri Coale: My Favorite Practice Drills
Oklahoma women’s basketball coach Sherri Coale has built an outstanding program with the idea that “it’s never about the drill, it’s about the skill.” In this DVD, she shares a full inventory of drills covering communication, passing, rebounding, transition offense, defense, and shooting.
Coale has won 10 total Big 12 championships and took the Sooners to back-to-back Final Four appearances in 2009 and 2010. Part of what got her teams there is an emphasis on maximizing practice time by matching drills to specific offensive and defensive strategies. The drills you will see will:
Improve focus and possessions
Minimize turnovers
Improve offensive spacing
Automate all cuts and screens in a half-court setup
Force players to make quick offensive and defensive decisions
Teach players to shoot under pressure
Passing
Coach Coale uses combination drills to work on fundamental passing as well as communication. Drills such as Hoosier Square, X Passing, and Inverted X work on skills like entering the ball into the post, finishing around the rim, and passing while under pressure. An essential element to lowering a team’s turnover ratio is simply being “sure” with the ball. It is something Coale drills in her players.
Rebounding
Processing information quickly is a theme Coach Coale continually stresses in her drills. Thunder Rebounding is one that works on communication and adds a level of confusion forcing players to think. The faster players can diagnose what is going on around them, the better they will be at making the correct decision.
Transition Drills
Coach Coale likes a fast pace and offers a series of offensive transition drills aimed at just that. Attacking off misses or makes, Coale uses Quick Strike Guards, Quick Strike Posts, and Inbound Integrity to get players to attack quickly and never let an opponent get settled defensively. The drills help ingrain in players the attacking mentality to a point where it becomes automatic.
Shooting
The final fundamental skill addressed is shooting. Coale likes players to work on game-like shots which is exactly what they do in the USA Shooting, Two-Ball Shooting, Back-Cut Shooting, Three-Lane Push, and Three-Man Rush drills.
All of Coach Coale’s drills help to expand a player’s understanding of the game all while helping them breakthrough their own limitations. With these practice drills, you can maximize your team’s growth and development quickly.Rent this Sherri Coale Practice Drills DVD today.

Multipurpose Basketball Practice Drills and Special Situations
John Pigatti is the head coach at South Suburban College where he has led a very successful junior college program. He has led his teams to three NJCAA Division II championship games. Much of Pigatti’s success can be traced back to what his players are taught in practice. In this video, Coach Pigatti shares a number of innovative basketball practice drills that teach multiple concepts in a short period of time.
The presentation begins with Pigatti revealing some very interesting statistical data regarding the impact that rebounding and turnovers have on winning basketball games. He then jumps right into nine different drills to work on players’ individual skills.
Limiting turnovers in full-court and half-court situations starts with effective passing. Coach Pigatti introduces some of his favorite passing drills including his trademark Olympic Ball Passing scheme. He also teaches players how to break out of traps using a drill where players learn how to pivot and step through the trap.
Coach Pigatti teaches transition offense and the primary fast break using five-man weave basketball practice drills. To help players respond better to full-court pressure, he uses something unique that he calls Plus One Scramble.
The presentation continues with two rebounding drills. One drill teaches out-of-box toughness and the other is used against teams that shoot a lot of three-pointers. Next is some discussion of late-clock out of bounds plays and then a demonstration of three different baseline plays and one sideline play with a number of options.
Coach Pigatti ends by sharing three keys for scoring opportunities under the basket, from the sideline, or at full court as the game clock winds down. Get plenty of work done in a short amount of time using Coach Pigatti’s strategies and drills. Rent this basketball practice drills DVD today.

Open Practice with Vermont’s John Becker: Offense & Defense Practice Drills & Techniques
The University of Vermont has been the premier team in the America East Conference for most of the last half-decade. The Catamounts success is largely due to head coach John Becker, a five-time Conference Coach of the Year with a 226-94 record at the school. Becker’s teams have won 20-plus games in each of his nine seasons. They have won four regular-season conference titles and have earned four trips to the NCAA tournament. In this video, Coach Becker gives you an inside look at one of his team’s practices.
Skill Work & Offensive Elements
Becker believes in taking some practice time each day to improve your players’ skills. Watch as the team warms up with ball-handling and full-court drills that work on passing and shooting. Coach Becker describes free throw shooting drills and “50 in 5 Shooting” which is a great way to get plenty of reps shooting the ball. You’ll also see how offensive actions are connected to player development through positional breakdowns. Players work on drills that improve their drive and kick game and their ability to read ball screens.
The practice then moves on to three drills that help put in the offense. “5-on-0” is used to work on the pace of the offense and teaches players how to flow through it. The “4-on-4 Offensive Breakdown” focuses on teaching specific actions within your offense. Becker ends with a live scrimmage that challenges players to use what they have worked on in practice.
Defense
Defense is crucial to Coach Becker’s program. You will see eight different drills that break down the Catamounts man-to-man defense. “Transition 4-on-5” forces defenders to recover with urgency and work together to survive disadvantaged situations. Coach Becker also goes in-depth on how to hard hedge against different offensive tactics and alignment. A 3-on-3 drill teaches how to read screeners.

Basketball Toughness Drills to Improve Your Team Physically and Mentally
If you are looking to improve your team’s toughness, South Suburban College head coach John Pigatti can help. In this basketball toughness drills video, he provides you with practice drills designed to develop a mindset of toughness. Coach Pigatti’s teams have developed that mindset and have helped him win over 83 percent of his career games. Pigatti has coached two National Players of the Year and nine Region IV Players of the Year. He has also led his teams to nine Region IV championships. Watch as he demonstrates how to build a culture of toughness in your program.
Passing Drills for Toughness
The idea of basketball toughness drills begins in the warmup drills in practice. Coach Pigatti begins with the Olympic Passing drill where eight players work together on passing skills. The emphasis in the drill is on catching on the move, working on pivoting, and preventing turnovers. The drill progresses to work on different types of passes. The overhead pass or the bounce pass, for example, can be the point of emphasis.
The drill ends up going full court and forces players to go hard as they have to run longer distances. This works on passing skills but also incorporates an element of toughness. Two other passing drills are presented here. The 50 Pass Drill is one which requires players to make 50 passes without a dribble or a shot. The emphasis here is to improve passing while being disciplined in handling the basketball.
Defensive Drills for Toughness
Coach Pigatti demonstrates a few drills in this segment. He begins with the Loose Ball Charge Drill. A player starts at the free throw lane. A coach rolls the ball out onto the floor and the player must dive for it, recover it, and pass it back to the coach. The next phase is to save balls that are going out of bounds. Coach Pigatti reviews the rules of saving a ball here which includes the idea of saving the ball to the nearest corner. Finally, players take a charge as a teammate drives.
Rebounding Drills for Toughness
Pigatti shares that 72 percent of teams that win also win the rebounding battle. He then demonstrates the War Drill, a full-court, 4-on-4 drill that starts with four perimeter offensive players and four defensive players starting on the restricted arc facing the basket. A shot is taken and the defense must block out and secure the rebound. One variation of the drill is the defense has to let the ball hit the floor once before securing the rebound. This forces the defense to hold their block out longer than normal.
There is no doubt that tough teams win more games. Coach Pigatti’s video shows you a number of ways in which you can build a culture of toughness putting your team on a path to win more games. Rent this basketball toughness drills DVD today.

My All Time Favorite Practice Drills Over a 45-year career as the mentor of one of the top high school basketball programs in the nation, Bob Hurley has run just about every drill in existence. In this video, Coach Hurley shares with you his all-time favorite drills. In addition, he also talks about how he likes to organize practices. A member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, Hurley opens his presentation sharing some advice on coaching. Coaches should never be finished learning and should work to improve their craft. Hurley talks about practice planning, drill work, and more.
Pre-Practice and Warm-Up Drills Coach Hurleys favorite warm-up drills worked on the three foundational skills of basketball: dribbling, passing, and shooting. He shows you the Fire Passing Drill which forces players to concentrate and communicate. The Michigan State series gets players moving and finishing around the basket. Drills like Up Two, Back Two, and the Chill Drill teach players how to attack a trap and also work on change of direction moves. All of Hurleys warm-up drills challenge players both mentally and physically. Rebounding and Closeout Drills You cant play offense if you cant rebound! Coach Hurley trains players to be instinctive around the basket. The Oregon Rebounding Drills helps create toughness and forces players to compete for rebounds. One of the more challenging fundamentals of defense is the closeout. Coach Hurley shares a number of drills that help to teach the technique as well as incorporate things like ball screen defense in the 4-Line Passing Drill. The 3-on-3 and 4-on-3 Closeout Drills work on defensive efficiency especially in disadvantage situations. Conversion Drill One of the reasons why Coach Hurleys St. Anthonys HS teams were so hard to score against in transition was the 5-on-5 Conversion Drill.
Your team will learn how to communicate and stop the ball in transition. Shooting Drills & Half-Court 3-on-3 To learn how to play off of each other, Hurley uses the 3-on-3 Half-Court Drill. Players incorporate all they have learned in half-court offense and defense. Coach Hurley then shifts to shooting drills. He shares some of his favorites including those that work on shooting off the catch and shooting off the dribble. One particularly favorite drill is 30 Plus a Half. Its a great shooting drill to close a practice. Players love it and it works on improving all aspects of shooting. There are only three high school coaches in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and Hurley is one. His old school values still hold true in the modern game and you get to learn from one of the true masters in this video.

Team Drills for Basketball with Tara VanDerveer
Stanford head women’s basketball coach Tara VanDerveer is one of the most respected coaches in the profession and rightfully so. She has 1000-plus wins, two national titles, and seven National Coach of the Year awards to her credit. She has developed numerous players throughout her forty-year career and in this video she shares with you how she has done so.
Team Drills for Basketball Philosophy
Coach VanDerveer begins her presentation with a look at her philosophy behind developing successful basketball players. Hear some of the tips that have benefited VanDerveer throughout her illustrious career. Coach VanDerveer has a strong belief that players must be able to pass and catch without missing a beat.
The same holds for shooting which all starts with the layup. She teaches shooting based on the acronym BEEF, which stands for Balance, Eyes, Elbows, and Feet. In addition to passing, catching, and shooting; players must also be able to get in a stance and play defense. These are the fundamentals to any successful program.
Ball Handling & Dribbling
Any player, regardless of position, must be able to handle the ball to a certain degree. Coach VanDerveer shares some drills such as ball slaps, taps, and figure-8s that also serve as a good warm up. Players can then progress to moving with the ball. One of her favorite drills comes from Ganon Baker, a well-known skills development coach. Players make one-hand passes, make a move, and then pass back with one hand helping players develop balance with both the right and left hand.
Passing Series
Coach VanDerveer offers a series of drills to improve passing beginning with her USA Passing Drill where players catch on the move and finish at the rim. The 3-Ball Passing Drill teaches players to communicate by passing, catching, and calling out names on the move in the paint. The drills are then expanded to the full court where 3-Lane Passing is introduced.
Shooting Drills
Shooting drills begin with a variety of layups – overhand, underhand, and reverse. Players work on proper footwork and eventually add a defender to the drill to create game-like situations. The shots then move away from the rim and Coach VanDerveer helps players create angles to make bank shots and open jumpers. The Partner Transition Drill incorporates full-court passing and a finish with a layup or a jump shot in the paint.
Defensive Drills
Finally, players must be well-rounded and understand how to play defense. They work the Mirror Drill to learn how to defend 1-on-1. Offensive players work their 1-on-1 moves as defenders learn to defend. In Ricochet Rebounding, post players learn to “hit and get” and finish with an outlet pass.
This is an outstanding comprehensive video from one of the game’s best that will help you in your quest to develop successful basketball players and successful programs. Rent this team drills for basketball DVD today.

He will also share with you over 15 of his favorite competitive basketball drills that will accelerate the skill development of your players. From rebounding drills to competitive team drills, Coach Schmidt has everything you need to improve your program.
Ball Handling Drills
Coach Schmidt gives you four ball handling drills that you can use in a variety of ways. Most importantly, these ball handling drills teach your players to dribble effectively with both hands. A warm-up drill incorporates stretching along with handling the basketball. You will see a dribbling drill that simulates game action and another that you can use as a conditioning drill. The fourth drill is a simple scissors drill to work on handling the ball.
Passing Drills
If there is one fundamental that gets lost in today’s basketball practices, it is the art of passing. Coach Schmidt presents a series of drills that work on breaking a press with a diagonal pass, defensive slide passing, and the full-court pass that results in a layup. These drills will not only improve your team’s passing, but also the ability to catch the basketball.
Rebounding Drills
According to Schmidt, rebounding is the most difficult of all basketball skills to teach. Coach takes you through four drills that address both the fundamentals of rebounding and the competitive, physical nature of the skill. One of Coach Schmidt’s favorite drills is the “3 and Out” which helps players with not only their rebounding but offensive and defensive skills as well. The drill also forces players to compete for an extended period of time.
Defense Drills
Defense is fundamental to successful basketball and Coach Schmidt teaches three drills to help players with their footwork and technique. The 50 Drill is not a favorite of players, but it forces them to get into a good stance and practice good footwork. The H.I.T. drill challenges your defense’s Heart, Intensity, and Toughness. The final segment of the series ends with a 2-on-2 drill which helps players understand proper positioning.
Offense Drills
Game-like situations are best according to Coach Schmidt and he enjoys putting his players in competitive situations. The 7 and Out drill helps players is a fun way for players to work on your offensive concepts. Southern Indiana is another 1-on-1 offensive drill that helps players work together for a united cause. Terry Layton
(Rental)-Cutthroat 4 on 4 Drills & Variations
$18.99
Cutthroat 4-on-4 Drills & Variations
The Cutthroat Drill has become a staple in NBA and FIBA practices. While primarily a defensive drill, Nike scout and International Basketball Consultant Terry Layton offers a different take on Cutthroat using it as the cornerstone of his approach to coaching the sport.
Layton has over 300 wins as a high school, junior college, and college coach in the U.S. as well as 300-plus wins coaching at the international level. In this video, Layton shows you how he has taken the defensive-minded Cutthroat Drill and used it to maximize practice time by using it to work on offensive concepts as well.
Cutthroat Drill – The Set Up
The traditional Cutthroat drill was derived from the basic Shell Drill and has been used primarily to develop sound team defenses. Layton prefers to get the most out of the drill by teach offensive concepts as well. In preparing for Cutthroat, Layton teaches varying formations starting with the basic 2-2 as well a 1-2-1 alignment that many prefer.
Offensive Concepts
Layton works on offensive concepts such as cutting, creating movement, passing, and communication as part of the Cutthroat Drill. Players drill simple actions like stepping toward a pass in this live-action situation. This version of Cutthroat is much livelier and the fast pace prepares players for game situations.
Defensive Basics
With improved offensive play, the Cutthroat Drill becomes even more of a challenge for the defense. Layton will teach players the basics of defense including proper closeout technique. He will use the four-line closeout drill where he teaches players to close out with their feet parallel and pointed at the ball. This creates a wall that prevents dribble penetration.
With a solid understanding of closeouts, Layton introduces live 4-on-4. The drill begins with a pass to a perimeter player. The defense then touches hands before closing out to defend while the offense begins to attack the defense.
Keeping Everyone Involved
In an effort to avoid players standing around while the drill is in progress, Layton uses a number of ways to keep everyone active and engaged. Coach Layton likes to have at least 75 percent of his players active at all times. Some of the ways to do so are to have players work on conditioning or on passing fundamentals.
Coach Layton’s take on Cutthroat is what every coach should want from his practices: a competitive environment where players are actively engaged and improving their skills. This 67-minute video will have a lasting impact on how you approach practice daily.
Chris Mack
(Rental)-Post & Perimeter Skill Development Drills
$18.99
Post and Perimeter Skill Development Drills
Learn to develop your post and perimeter players from one of the best in the business – Louisville head coach Chris Mack. While the head coach at Xavier University, Mack repeatedly had to take less talented Division I players and transform them to compete in the super-tough Big East Conference. Mack took last year’s Xavier team to a Big East championship for which he was named the Big East’s Coach of the Year.
In this video, you will see the exact drills that Mack uses to develop shooters and scorers both on the perimeter and in the post. Mack is big on putting players in game-like situations to develop consistency in their shots. Many of Mack’s drills that you see here force players to focus and shoot when they are tired.
Post Player Drills
Coach Mack starts with the post players. In almost all of Mack’s drills, there is an emphasis on the fatigue factor. This has been a cornerstone to Mack’s success, instituting fatigue into the most basic of shooting drills. The Make 50 Shots drill is not as easy as it sounds. Post players must hit 10 shots from five different spots on the floor. The kicker is they cannot miss two in a row or they must start over. With a time limit of five minutes, the drill can become both competitive and frustrating.
Post players in these drills are forced to maintain good form staying technically correct while also maintaining their composure. Mack includes work on dunks and free throws, two shots that big men should take plenty of during games.
Perimeter Player Drills
The next segment of the video moves to the perimeter players. Coach Mack keeps these guys on the move most of the time as they are in game situations. One of the other keys to Mack’s player development drills is the level of competition. Some drills have athletes competing against each other. Some have players competing against a clock and yet others feature competition for team records.
There are two great drills that you will see here. One is the Full Court Spring and the other is Shoot and Full Court Dribble and Shoot. Both drills force players to knock down shots when their legs are tired. These drills will elicit one of Mack’s favorite sayings, “get your legs under you.” These drills simulate real game action with a level of fatigue similar to playing in a game.
This 51-minute video is essential to those looking to develop their post and perimeter players. You also get a ton of drills that can prepare your players for key situations late in games when fatigue sets in.

Coaching Today’s Athlete
Coach Alloco introduces his presentation by talking about how today’s athlete is much different than even 10 years ago. He starts with some philosophical statements and quotes that have helped him bridge the gap between generations. These include:
The mindset and attitude of today’s player
Seasonal opportunities and when to “rebirth” a program
Drill types and the decline in fundamental emphasis
Offensive Transition
You will see Coach Alloco demonstrate three drills that he uses to teach transition offense. The drills will help:
Teach your team to the get the ball out of the net quickly and up the floor
Learn to attack the defense in transition in even and disadvantage situations
Teach your players how to relieve pressure while still playing fast

Three different rebounding drills are demonstrated through a series of breakdown drills. Each ends with a game-like rebound and incorporates other facets of the game like closeouts. The 3-on-3 Triangle Rebounding drill teaches players to box out from different angles.
Defensive Fundamentals
Players should understand the easiest shots in basketball are the ones closest to the hoop. Knowing that, they should always work to keep the ball out of the paint and away from the basket. Coach Allocco emphasizes this in game-like drills that teach your players to:
Closeout, play on-ball and off-ball defense, and double the low post
Stop the ball in transition and play in a disadvantaged situation
Communicate on defense
Coach Allocco ties his entire defensive philosophy together in a 5-on-5 Identity drill, where players are put in game-like situations. Coach Allocco’s detail oriented teaching style can help you build your own drill progressions to teach your team to compete at a championship level. Rent this competitive basketball drills DVD today.

Drills for Developing Hybrid Basketball Players
In today’s more multi-faceted game, players that have the ability to play multiple positions are extremely valuable. University of North Florida head coach Matthew Driscoll understands the need for such hybrid players and has developed a system for training them. Driscoll served as an assistant with Scott Drew at Baylor helping to rebuild the Bears program before taking over at North Florida where Drew led the Ospreys to their first-ever NCAA tournament appearance (2014-15).
In this unique skill development video, Coach Driscoll shows you how to take tall players and develop them into hybrids. They have the ability to score from inside, but also can step out and attack the basket with ball handling skills as well as show off their shooting range.
Ball Handling Drills
Coach Driscoll teach post players to handle the ball with a series of ball handling drills normally reserved for point guards. Using four different drills, Driscoll works on players’ abilities to shake defenders and drive the lane. In a second set of drills, players combine ball handling with finishes at the rim. Each moves stresses change of direction and getting defenders on their heels. Players work on pro hops, step-back jumpers, floaters, and the Stockton move.
Training in the Post
Hybrid basketball players can exploit mismatches in the post when playing with their back to the basket. Coach Driscoll uses three drills to teach players to finish at the rim while playing with the back to the basket.
The QB Tee Back to the Basket series teaches players eight different ways to score through the post. Driscoll teaches a “cheat step” that helps players get angles on defenders and puts them in positions to score.
Shooting Drills
Coach Driscoll shares a number of shooting drills designed to sharpen players’ shooting technique. The Great 8 Finishing drill teaches players how to finish with control at the rim using either hand with six finishes. Driscoll also works players through eight different scoring situations they would commonly see in their ball screen offense in game situations. This helps players take shots that they’ll take in games.
Creating Offense
Two final skill development drills help develop players into playmakers. The first breaks down options for penetrating the lane. Players have the ability to execute the “LeBron” pass to an open perimeter shooter as the defense sinks to help in the lane. The Ball Screen Acuity drill reverses traditional roles. The big handles the ball while perimeter players become the screeners in a pick and roll action.
With the changing game, athletes need to adapt as well. Coach Driscoll’s video will show you how he builds players that can play any position in today’s “position-less” game. Rent this Hybrid Basketball Players DVD today.
