Dribble Drive Offense
Not long ago, University of Alabama head coach Nate Oats was a high school head coach in Michigan. In this video, he showcases some of the shooting and dribble drive offense drills that have helped his teams compete on a high level. He turned the University of Buffalo into a MAC power (three tournament titles) using a fast, relentless style of offense. His video will help you teach your players how to use quick decision making skills to play fast and keep opponents on their toes.
Disadvantage Shooting
Players at high levels must have the ability to attack closeouts and defensive rotations. In 2-on-1 into 3-on-2 Shooting, the offense is put in an advantage situation where they must read the defense and be shot ready. The defender picks a player to close out to force them to react.
The drill builds to 3-on-2 Shooting and finally 4-on-3 Live where players can attack the over-closeout and hit the open player.
Transition Shooting
Coach Oats demonstrates a series of transition drills designed to help players make decisions on both offense and defense. In Cincinnati 1-on-1, offensive players attack the basket going downhill in seven seconds or less. The defense must decide how to level out the attack.
In the Cardinal Drill, players continue working on getting downhill on offense, but they are put into a 2-on-1 situation where they learn to make quick passes to open teammates that turn into easy baskets.
Blood Series
Blood Series is one of Coach Oats’ staples. It teaches players to read defenses in game-like situations. The drills are tailored to the dribble drive offense and have helped some of the best programs create scoring opportunities by learning how to attack gaps and get into the lane.
Slot Reads is a drill where players hunt for the paint and try to get an easy score. Players create gaps and driving angles by multiple drives into the paint. Corner Reads is a drill where players attack the baseline and learn to read the baseline defender. Wing Reads gets players between the top two defenders to create havoc on the defense once in the paint.
Coach Oats’ drills will help you develop a complete offense that attacks defenses. Players will enjoy attacking defenses as they hunt for what the defense gives them. Rent this dribble drive offense

Drive & Kick Offense 1 on 1 Skill Development for the 4-Out
St. Louis head coach Travis Ford has rebuilt the Billikens’ program focusing on the development of his players’ individual skills. Ford’s 2019 team won the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament and advanced to the NCAA tournament. They got there following the tough, hard-working culture instilled by Ford. In this Drive & Kick Offense video, he shares a number of 1-on-1 moves and drills designed to help players improve their dribbling skills and their ability to beat defenders off the dribble.
Drive & Kick Offense Warmup Drills
From the 4-Out Drive and Kick set up, Ford gets his athletes warmed up with a drive and kick drill. The drill is designed to teach players how to play high and wide around the 3-point line. When a player drives to the basket, his teammates learn how to rotate properly. Players become accustomed to being shot-ready while learning to play fast.
1 on 1 Drills
All players need to be able to handle the ball. Ford takes his players through a series of ball handling drills that work on moves such as inside-out, hesitation, and the between the legs crossover. As the players execute each move, they learn to over-exaggerate their actions and attack the defender. Players also learn how to deal with contact, staying balanced, and attacking the rim.
1 on 1 Ball Spins
In this segment of the Drive & Kick Offense , players work on catching the ball in a triple threat position and pivoting. The jab step is incorporated here and players learn to use that jab while keeping their eyes on the defender. Players in a shot-ready position learn to use a shot fake and Coach Ford demonstrates a shot fake crossover to beat a defender. The circle rip through is also taught as this move gives players an advantage in attacking the rim.
Quick Decision 1 on 1
Coach Ford’s final segment puts all of the drills to use in more game-like situations. Players use the moves they have been taught – catch and shoot, shot fake, or circle rip through – in the open court and half court. Players must make quick decisions on which move to use.
Throughout his career, Coach Ford has developed a number of very talented college players. The drills used in this video are the same Coach Ford has used through the years and they can help your players become better basketball players within your offense. Rent this Drive & Kick Offense DVD today.

With over 1,000 career wins at Virginia’s Oak Hill Academy, coach Steve Smith has become a master at teaching his players how to play the game. He can do the same for you in this Dribble Drive Offense video which helps you simplify your man-to-man offense and teach players to be playmakers rather than play-runners.
Coach Smith is a four-time USA Today National Coach of the Year and has coached nine Oak Hill teams to national championships. His ability to teach players the game and increase their basketball IQ has led many of them to college basketball scholarships. In this video, you will see how Coach Smith teaches players to read the game based on ball position, how to run and make decisions in the dribble drive offense and a number of out of bounds plays that can be run at any level.
Dribble Drive Offense
As the game grows, the dribble drive offense has become a staple for many because of its ability to allow very good players attack the rim. It is an offense that is extremely hard to prepare for and even harder to defend. Coach Smith details how he teaches the Dribble Drive offense and uses on-court demonstration to show you three formations and actions like screening and pitch backs that create scoring opportunities.
Coach Smith also shows you how to get post players involved with a flat screen option where a post player can roll or pop out for an open shot. Spacing is another concept that is reviewed as it is important in getting your offense layup after layup in the Dribble Drive.
Teaching Transition Offense
The best teams are complete and have the ability to excel in transition. Here, Smith explains and demonstrates how he teaches transition offense. The best way to do so is through the use of a competitive scrimmage. He starts with the fast break off of a free throw. The ball is pushed up the floor and then Coach Smith offers three basic sets that all of his players know. His players are taught to read the defense and use the appropriate set – Dribble, Dribble 2, or Dribble 3.
Out of Bounds Plays for Basketball
Coach Smith shares with you five different out of bounds that are designed to result in easy scoring opportunities. You will see options that utilize picking the picker to allow post players to get free for easy layups. Other screening actions look to free up guards for drives to the basket or for easy pull up jump shots.
If there is one thing Coach Smith has learned in 30 years of coaching, it is that players need to understand how to play the game. This 65-minute video is an excellent way to get that process started. Rent this Dribble Drive Offense DVD today.

Drills to Teach Transition Drive and Screen Offense
With more teams using up-tempo offenses to exploit opposing defenses, coaches need to develop the skills necessary to play this type of screen offense. Joe Dooley, head coach at East Carolina University, takes you through a series of breakdown drills and skills that will help your team develop within an up-tempo offense.
Dooley won back-to-back (2017 & 2018) Atlantic Sun Conference Coach of the Year awards while at Florida Gulf Coast. His drills are uniquely designed to develop players. The drills focus on basic fundamentals like butting, passing, and shooting.
Passing Drills
Turnovers are something that coaches can prevent and Coach Dooley shows you a number of passing drills designed to eliminate those turnovers.
Nash Drill: a simple warmup drill that uses both hands and works on making good one-handed air and bounce passes
Gap Passing Drill: a three-man drill that uses quick movements to take advantage of bad closeouts and attack gaps in defenses
Pocket Passing Drill: this works on early offense entries, focusing on drag screens in transition and hitting the roll man off the ball screen
Drive and Kick Series
To help your team penetrate to the basket, Coach Dooley takes you through a Drive and Kick series. The series works on a number of situations using L-cuts, drift passes, and passes back to players filling behind drivers. Coach Dooley’s drills work on post play, executing the “Okafor” move, kicking the ball back to the perimeter, and chasing passes to the perimeter with ball screens.
Offensive Build-Up Drills
Each day in practice, Coach Dooley’s players play 1-on-1 or 3-on-3. In the 1-on-1 drills, there is a three-dribble limit and players must find a way to create a scoring opportunity against on-ball pressure. The 1-on-1 drills are unique because of ball screen defense. Dooley takes his players through the ways his players guard ball screens before the 1-on-1 situation. The 1-on-1 drills then progress to 3-on-3.
Closeouts
The ability to play up-tempo offense comes from playing good defense. That means the closeout is of utmost importance. Coach Dooley demonstrates a 3-on-3 closeout drill that works on closing out and going live on the catch. In essence, the drill turns into live 3-on-3 and the breakdown drills presented earlier are put to use.
Coach Dooley gives some great insight into creating an up-tempo style of play that can help coaches at any level generate offense and produce more points. Rent this Screen Offense DVD today.

3v0 to explain the basic concept
5v0 with a focus on guard penetration
5v0 using the #4 as a fourth perimeter player
5v0 introducing the pass and hand-off options with the #5
Making sure that you understood the concepts, Bollant demonstrated the "Blood Drill" which emphasized instilling toughness and an attacking mentality in your team. After that, he gave several options on how to initiate the offense:
Exposing a slow post defender
Duck-in
High pick-and-roll
#1 to #4 hand-off
Exposing a weak PG defender and/or slow rotating help defense
Bollant did run through some of the previous options and also demonstrated new ones in this presentation. He also ran through some of the old options and then demonstrated new ones using a controlled 5v5 scrimmage. Coach Bollant demonstrated the basics necessary for installing this offense, while adding some great extras that can enable any team in a great position to have great results. Strategies and tactics to develop the spread dribble drive offense
Demonstrations of late-clock plays and reversals for improving your team's offense
Spread offense is best when there is a defensive rebound and an aggressive quick break. Keno Davis' offense places maximum pressure on defense and can lead to opponent defenses being changed. Coach Davis starts with the outlet pass and a specific lane responsibility in offensive transition. If possible, it is encouraged to take advantage of any early offensive opportunities. Each player can immediately run his lane from their designated zone spot. The 5-0 break is a warm up drill that then leads to live 5-on-5 play. Early action depends on the defense once the ball is in the half court. Davis offers a few options. Once the ball is reversed twice, he shares a special play called "dribble spread". The court spread allows the offense to choose its driving opportunities, such as getting to the basket or a dish to a three-point shooter. Spread offense also offers the special "2" play.
