Feeding the Cats with Jump Drills by Rob Assise
CoachTube Feeding the Cats with Jump Drills by Rob Assise $39.00
FEEDING THE CATS WITH JUMP DRILLS is course #13 of an ambitious Feed the Cats Certification Program created by Tony Holler. Feed the Cats is a revolutionary way of training, coaching, and teaching that values specificity, essentialism, performance, and love. After gaining a world-wide following in Track & Field, FTC has now gained a strong foothold in American football. FEEDING THE CATS WITH JUMP DRILLS was created by national jumps guru, Rob Assise. Rob coaches at the hottest track and field school in Illinois, Homewood Flossmoor. Rob Assise, a 19 year veteran of coaching track and field, is a TFC-insider and has written several for SimpliFaster, Just Fly Sports, and ITCCCA. He is the co-owner of Field Focus and the owner of Re-Evolution Athletics LLC. One of the most important features of Feed the Cats is the world-wide network of coaches who have bought into the idea of prioritizing speed and explosiveness while de-empathizing conditioning, toughness, and high volume workouts. The focus on well-rested, happy, and healthy athletes is truly a departure from the grind of the traditional approach. Jumpers may benefit from this approach more than any other subset of track athletes. Coach Assise goes in-depth in progressions and regressions of three of his go-to jump drills - skipping, galloping, and run-run-jumps. This resource is perfect for veteran jump coaches looking to add some spice to their programming, coaches who are new to coaching the jumps, and, most often overlooked, coaches of field-court sports. There is no resource which goes as in-depth on the movements presented, and coaches will walk away with an arsenal of options to maximize training time. In addition, Coach Assise goes into explicit detail on how to program these drills within the Feed The Cats system. Up your warm-up, X-Factor, and training today with "FEEDING THE CATS WITH JUMP DRILLS"! It could be argued that this course is track specific (long jump, triple jump, and high jump) but the drills of Rob Assise provide an amazing template for building athletes, thus the 100-level designation (200-level courses are track specific, 300-level are other sport-specific). More courses are on the way! The take-off is fundamental to the long jump, yet many are unsure as to how to specifically coach it. In this 13 minute video England team coach John Shepherd showcases numerous drills that you can use to coach better take-off mechanics. Positioning correclty on the final steps to take-off is cricial and so forms the focus of this video. He works with athletes of all ages and abilities locally and around the world. Coaching highlights from the past 4 years include: 50+ state qualifiers 9 state champions 1 USA Junior National Champion 3 Junior Olympic Regional Champions 2 Junior Olympic Champions 1 ParaPan American Bronze Medalist 2 US Olympic Trial Qualifiers 8 NAIA All-Americans Scott Halley is a United States javelin thrower based in Gresham, Oregon. Scotts experience in the javelin started while finishing his junior year in high school. A 196 8 throw and a second place finish at the state meet left him dreaming of college success and a goal of making the Olympics. His senior year proved to be even better with a first place finish and a throw of 209 2. The collegiate years to follow proved to be a rocky road and lifes distractions got the better of him. His dreams of finishing his degree, winning a national title, and making an Olympic team quickly faded away in the spring of 2002. After failing to make the finals at the NAIA National Championship, while entering the competition ranked number one, Scott decided to stop throwing the javelin and do some soul searching back home. Several years passed and Scott found himself coaching the javelin at his old high school, working full time and taking care of his newly born son, Ethan. Later that season, he was approached by his former collegiate coach, Randy Dalzell. Randy expressed his interest in Scotts life and asked if he would like to join a new track and field program he was starting at Concordia University. Randy convinced him that it was possible to head back to school and finish his degree and get one more chance at winning an NAIA national title. That spring Scott enrolled in some classes and began improving his academic standing to be eligible to attend Concordia in the following spring. That year, Scott was back throwing again and training under the tutelage of Mac Wilkins and Duncan Atwood. After a 4 year hiatus and at 155 pounds, Scott made his comeback. A season that started just over 200 feet with a partially torn ligament in his throwing arm, Scott was able to finish the season with a record breaking throw if 235 9 and his NAIA national title. Physical therapy and completion of his degree quickly followed. After no improvement with his shoulder, Scott opted for surgery to repair a partially torn labrum. With 2007 filled with physical therapy and career changes, Scotts javelin development was interrupted. With life taking over, athletic goals have been replaced by coaching goals. Scott has now goals of developing athletes of all ages and abilities into great javelin throwers.
