Jay Wright, Villanova Head Coach 2001-2022
Jay Wright believes in the importance of developing a positive attitude for his team. This attitude is evident in Jay Wright's practices, particularly the tone-setting, early-season practices. This video will show you how Coach Wright walks through a practice during the first week of the season. His practice, like all great coaches, is well-organized, energetic, positive, and enthusiastic. All players practice a set-lift shooting technique before they go to practice. This is to emphasize the importance and importance of shooting. A 30-minute segment includes seven minutes stretching, four minutes of passing, nine minutes of shooting, four minutes of footwork and four minutes of handling the ball. Wright's dedication to fundamentals and solid technique is evident in this half-hour. The next step is a series small group drills that have both an offensive and defensive focus. The drills include the post feeds, lay up drill, one-two-step jumpers and jab series. The Wildcat staff expects players to push themselves and work hard. Wright emphasizes communication between staff and players, which helps to build a strong bond. Wright encourages positive attitudes and good habits as he drives his teams to achieve elite status every year. This practice demonstrates Villanova's philosophy of fundamentals, team and individual drills, as well as full-court play. Wright's coaching style is evident by his constant praise and instruction of his players during practice. Practice ends with "Win the Game", an intense scrimmage that builds team spirit. Jay Wright's practice session includes all the necessary ingredients to build a championship team each year.
