Richard Pitino
(Rental)-Establishing A Full Court Pressure Defense
$17.99
Establishing a Full Court Pressure Defense
In his first year as the head coach at Minnesota, Richard Pitino took his team to a NIT tournament title. He was also named the 2017 Big Ten Coach of the Year after leading the Gophers to a 24-10 record and a berth in the NCAA tournament. Pitino’s success is largely related to his style of defense. In this video, Coach Pitino demonstrates how he disrupts his opponents with an aggressive full-court man-to-man defense.
White & Blue Presses
Coach Pitino goes onto the court to go through his White and Blue pressure schemes. White is a man-to-man press that focuses on tremendous ball pressure. Defenders continually look for the optimal trapping opportunities.
Blue is another press that allows the entry pass into the short corner where the first trap can be made. The ball is usually reversed to the inbounder who is not normally a good ball handler. That is what Pitino wants so he can force the inbounder into a mistake. Coach Pitino also reviews adjustments that opponents have made and how to counter those.
Full Court Pressure Defense Drills
Coach Pitino shares a number of drills that you can use to build relentless ball pressure in both the full-court and half-court. Pitino uses a series of drills beginning with 3-on-3 and progressing to 4-on-4 and 5-on-5 to help build a better understanding of the defense and to build a more aggressive attitude.
Scramble is another drill that helps players learn to cover the open man and continue to apply pressure with active hands. Coach Pitino guides you through every situation an opponent can throw at you. As a result, your defense will be prepared to apply pressure continuously and frustrate opponents.
Also included is one of Coach Pitino’s favorite conditioning drills. To apply pressure all game long takes well-conditioned athletes so Pitino shares “85 and 2.” It’s a full-court drill that prepares players to play full-court pressure defense.
The whole idea of Coach Pitino’s defense is to create unconventional possessions by the offense. It takes a relentless attitude to do so and Pitino shows you how it can be done in this extremely informative presentation. Rent this full court pressure defense DVD today.

Matthew McCall
(Rental)-Full Court Man to Man Press Defense
$18.99
It was a suffocating full-court press that helped the Florida Gators win back-to-back national championships in 2006 and 2007. Matt McCall, now the head coach at UMass, was an assistant on those Florida teams and has taken that press with him to Tennessee-Chattanooga where he won a Southern Conference championship in 2016 and now to UMass. In this video, Coach McCall teaches the basics of the run and jump press, drills to help implement the press, and adjustments.
Goals of the Press
Coach McCall begins by talking about the five goals of the press defense as well as five things that must be avoided. Using game film, McCall shows you how four basic rules guide the decision making of defenders on the floor as they work to force traps.
He also breaks down how defenders are to close traps and how defenders must rotate to interceptor positions on the inbound pass, speed dribbles up the sideline, and when dribblers get turned. He also discusses opportunities for multiple traps in the same possession. At UMass, McCall uses hustle stats to motivate his players to play at a high level.
Press Defense Drills
Coach McCall reviews six different drills to build the press. The drills focus on the fundamentals of getting matched up, applying pressure on the ball, closing traps, and rotating to pick off passes.
The 4v4 Around the Cone Drill is a great multipurpose drill for building the full-court press as well as half-court offense and defense.
One of the best things about this pressure defense is its ability to adapt to different offensive strategies. Coach McCall offers up six different scenarios that can be a challenge for press defenses. Learn how to avoid putting your center in risky matchups. You will also see how to challenge poor ball handlers to initiate the offense, how to defend inbound situations, and much more.
This is an outstanding video for anyone looking to install a full-court defense next season or for anyone looking for ideas to improve an existing press
Bo Ryan
(Rental)-Bo Ryan's 1-2-1-1 Press & Press Attack
$18.99
1-2-1-1 Press and Press Attack
Former University of Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan was well-known for having teams that could apply pressure on defense and that could break pressure on offense. Ryan, a member of the College Basketball Hall of Fame, led his 2014 and 2015 teams to back-to-back trips to the Final Four. In this video, Coach Ryan breaks down his full-court diamond press and how to beat pressure with strategies that will get the ball safely into your half-court offense.
Press Defense
Coach Ryan offers several reasons why teams would want to play an aggressive style of full-court pressure defense. The diamond press is Ryan’s signature and an easy way to get quick turnovers early in a possession.
Ryan goes through how to position players on your team so they are playing a spot in the press that suits their strengths. You will see the various trap opportunities available depending upon where the ball is inbounded. Ryan shows you how to adjust the press based upon the scouting of an opponent as well as how to increase the aggressiveness of the defense by chasing opponents into second traps in the same possession.
Beating Pressure Defense
Coach Ryan is a master at protecting the basketball especially when his teams are under pressure. Learn how he beats pressure by teaching the inbounder’s thought process. You will see how to look up the floor to throw the deep pass and beat the defense quickly.
Coach Ryan lays out his press break showing you the progression of options and the thought process of the inbounder. “Z the Court” is a concept that helps players keep proper spacing and it maximizes the number of receiver options for advance passes. If you have an exceptionally tall player, Ryan shows you how to take advantage of that size.
This video is a great way to learn how to both apply pressure on defense and how to break it when on offense, and it comes from one of the best college basketball coaches of all-time.
Mike Jones
(Rental)-Pressure Defense: Traps, Run & Jump, & Diamond Press
$18.99
Pressure Defense Basketball Video: Traps, Run & Jump, and Diamond Press
Radford University head coach Mike Jones has used pressure defense basketball traps to help find success. Radford won the Big South Tournament in 2018, earned a trip to the NCAA tournament, and Jones was named the conference coach of the year. In this video, Jones discusses the keys to good traps, the run and jump press, and the Diamond press. He also includes drills that help to increase tempo and create turnovers.
Goals of a Pressing Defense
Before he breaks down the different presses he has used, Jones talks about what he wants from the pressure defense. These include:
Creating turnovers as often as possible
Forcing quick and bad shots
Forcing tempo and disrupting flow
Being difficult to prepare for
Making the offense uncomfortable and tired
Making offensive depth a factor
Trapping Fundamentals
For pressure defense basketball traps to be successful, players must know how to trap. Coach Jones wants traps to be elastic meaning the trap must contain the ball handler and not allow him/her to get out of the trap with a pivot. Jones also addresses “not breaking the glass” as a way to teach how to not foul.
Jones uses a 3-on-3 trapping drill to teach rotations in and out of traps as well as trapping fundamentals. 3-on-3 Circle Trap uses two trappers and an interceptor who reads the eyes of the ball handler. “Roose Stunting” is taught in a 3-on-3 situation with off-ball defenders executing stunts.
Man-to-Man Run & Jump
The run and jump pressure starts with the “mad man,” or on-ball defender. Other defenders remain one-third of the way between their man and the ball waiting to stunt or trap. With the trap set, Jones covers the responsibilities of the other defenders. The interceptor plays between the three nearest receivers and reads the eyes of the ball handler. You will also hear how players are to react to passes out of traps.
1-2-1-1 Full-Court Press
The 1-2-1-1 or Diamond Press starts by inviting the ball to the “coffin corner” where a trap can be made immediately. Once trapped, the interceptor then reads the eyes of the ball handler in an attempt to get a deflection or steal. The Diamond press is designed to increase the tempo of a game and create turnovers that lead to easy baskets.
Jones finishes the presentation by going over adjustments, the role of the baseline runner, and an how to defend the reversal pass. If you want to make offenses uncomfortable, Coach Jones video is for you. Rent this pressure defense basketball DVD today.
Eric Flannery
(Rental)-Read & Man To Man Full Court Press
$18.99
Read Full Court Press and Man-to-Man Presses
The one thing that can disrupt even the best of basketball offenses is the full court press. Eric Flannery, long-time head coach at St. Edwards HS (OH), shows you two pressing defenses designed to control pace and, ultimately, the tempo of a game. Flannery has over 400 career wins and two Ohio Division 1 state championships. His success can be attributed to his read and man-to-man full court presses.
Read Full Court Press
The Read press really creates confusion for opponents. Initially, the defense is all about getting deflections. The defense strives to not allow the same entry twice. When the ball reverses, the press changes its look and becomes a 2-2-1. This drives opponents crazy as they try to decipher the press. Coach Flannery shows you how the defense can throw multiple options at an offense after the initial read.
You will learn the rules of the Read press as well as the positioning for each player. The great thing about the Read press is that it allows for flexibility in press rotations. You can fit the press to your personnel to benefit the strengths of your team.
L Cut
Coach Flannery has a different idea about trapping the first pass. Most often, you see the trap come at an angle from the inbound pass. Flannery likes his players to go up the floor and come from the side. This cuts off the dribble to the middle of the floor. This L-cut is a great adjustment to prevent the ball from going to the middle of the floor.
Man-to-Man Press
The man-to-man press looks like a zone press. Flannery teaches you the rotations that make the press appear to be zone when in reality it is man. Coach Flannery guides you through the initial setup that an offense would likely use to break the press.
Read Full Court Press Breakdown Drills
To teach his style of disrupting defense, Flannery shows you a progression of breakdown drills. Each one builds a havoc mindset by focusing on forcing players to the sideline and containing an opponent’s best ball handlers.
The Sprint and Turn Drill teaches players to turn and run taking an angle to cut off an offensive player. The drill works to help players focus on their defense rather than chasing the basketball. The drill eventually goes to 2-on-2 forcing defenders to communicate as they cut off the ball and force a trap.
If you like to get up and down the floor, Coach Flannery’s pressure defenses are for you. They create confusion and force opponents to get out of their comfort zone. Your team is sure to love this style of play that gets everyone involved. Rent the Read Full Court Press DVD today.
Derrick Clark
(Rental)-Disruptive Full Court Pressure Defensive System
$17.99
Disruptive Full Court Pressure Defensive System
Loyola-Marymount assistant and former Metro State head coach Derrick Clark shows you how his teams use full-court defensive pressure to control a game’s tempo, force turnovers, and create absolute chaos for opponents.
While head coach at NCAA Division II Metro State, Clark led his teams to consecutive conference championships, conference tournament championships, 30-plus-win seasons, and Final Four appearances. His 2013 team was the NCAA Division II runner-up.
Full Court Pressure Defense Philosophy
Coach Clark begins with a description of his defensive philosophy. That includes controlling tempo, taking opponents out of their comfort zone, and forcing turnovers. Clark’s defensive pressure package includes a variety of man-to-man and zone defenses. He discusses positioning and strategy which includes taking away a primary ball handler, clock/tempo management, and clamping on makes and misses.
Man-to-Man Full-Court Press
The 55 Press, or the man press, is where Coach Clark’s pressing philosophy starts. You will see how Clark adjusts his team’s alignment against “Stack” and “4-Across” press breaks. In a 5-on-5 setting, Coach Clark demonstrates both trapping and the run-and-jump options as well as how to take away a team’s primary ball handler.
Coach Clark emphasizes what he feels is the most important component of the full-court pressure defense – the help and recover. You will see a full breakdown of defensive recovery and a breakaway drill that focuses on the skill. The drill helps teams create turnovers even when they are in a disadvantaged state.
2-2-1 Zone Press
Coach Clark reveals two versions of his 2-2-1 zone press. Blue is the passing version which forces opponents to use up time on the clock while breaking it. Red is the aggressive version and looks to create ball pressure and successful traps to create turnovers.
He also discusses “clamping the ball” off a missed shot and shows you how to trap a defensive rebound in an effort to slow down an opponent’s fast break.
Coach Clark’s defense is sure to get opponents out of their normal attack. Apply pressure that can adjust to any press offense and be disruptive all over the court! Rent this full court pressure defense DVD today.
Bruce Pearl
(Rental)-Pressure Defense & Sideline Out Of Bounds Plays
$17.99
Pressure Defense and Sideline Out of Bounds Plays
Bruce Pearl has won nearly 600 career games as a head coach adhering to a certain style of play that forces opponents to play his brand of basketball. Pearl’s style is working at Auburn, a program that has been resurrected after reaching the 2019 Final Four. The Tigers were the SEC tournament champion and advanced all the way to the national semifinals before bowing out. In this video, Coach Pearl covers a range of topics including creating a team identity, his pressure defensive system, and inbound plays that produce points.
Pressure Defense
If there is one thing Coach Pearl is known for, it is his famed 1-2-1-1 full-court press. His teams have always been good pressing teams so much so that opponents fear playing against him. Coach Pearl takes you through each player in the defense describing what type of player to use in each position, rules and responsibilities, and how to figure out which post player to put at the back of the press.
Coach Pearl details things like the two types of passes that can beat the press, the best time to go for a steal, and where steals most often occur. Pearl will show you how to defend a variety of offensive formations, including 1-guard, 2-guard, 3-guard, and 4-across formations. The whole idea, of course, is to exhaust and disrupt opponents allowing your own team to be aggressive and control the pace of the game.
Out of Bounds Plays
In addition to the pressure defense, Coach Pearl also includes three sideline out of bounds plays that flow right into the flex offense that Pearl ran at Tennessee. He teaches you how to run each set against both man and zone defenses.
Coach Pearl’s presentation ends with a discussion on pressuring and disrupting opponent inbound plays. Pearl shows you the art of altering an offense’s play design by influencing the timing and spacing of the offensive movement. Players jam gaps, maintain inside position, and guard “two-with-one” to put pressure on a defense. Rent this sideline out of bounds plays DVD today.
Jack Smith
(Rental)-Unpredictable Run N Jump Defense
$15.99
The Unpredictable Run and Jump Defense
Jack Smith, head boys’ basketball coach at McDermitt HS (NV), has over 300 career wins thanks, in large part, to the Run & Jump defense. It’s an extremely fun style of defense that creates chaos for opponents and plenty of wins for coaches like Smith.
In this presentation, Coach Smith shows you how he took the Run and Jump defense that he learned from several successful coaches and added his own tweaks to create a defense that can help coaches at any level. In the video, Smith delivers a complete overview of the defense including:
How devastating the Run & Jump can be by wearing down opponents physically, creating turnovers, and getting easy scoring opportunities in transition
Coaching buzz words like “no man’s land,” “the gray area,” “protect the fort,” and “danger zone”
Simple rules that allow for great execution of the Run & Jump
Top five drills for the Run & Jump that can replace normal conditioning drills
Coach Smith diagrams each concept of the defense before taking a group of high school boys to the court to demonstrate. The advantage of this video is the instruction you see as Coach Smith teaches the defense for the first time to this group.
Footwork & Pressure Drills
The first drill you see is the Slide Drill which teaches players how to slide their feet to ensure they stay in front of their opponent to pressure the ball. It also teaches players the proper angles to take. The 1-on-1 drill trains players to put constant pressure on the ball, use the proper angles, and cut off the ball handler before he reaches the basket.
The 3-on-3 drill puts together the essentials learned in the 1-on-1 drill. Players learn to force the offense into speed dribbles and then they jump the ball. Plenty of turnovers are created by doing so. The 5-on-5 Freeze Frame Drill slows down the action so that Coach Smith can break down each player’s assignment within the defense.
Individual Skill
The next series of drills are great because they work on individual skills like ball handling, passing, and shooting while also serving as conditioning drills. Using these drills in conjunction with the Run & Jump prepare your players to play at a high tempo for an entire game.
As an added bonus, Coach Smith shows game film from state finals and regular season games and narrates them explaining the Run & Jump in action. Any coach interested in this exciting style of play will definitely want to add Coach Smith’s presentation to their library. Rent this run and jump defense DVD today.

Bruce Pearl's full court pressure defense: Everything you need to know
Lecture session explains the philosophy and foundations of full court pressure defense
Guideline for selecting the right player for your pressing system
Bruce Pearl is well-known for his quick tempo and high court pressure. Although a breaking offense may set the pace, a full court attack by defense can help control it. The "encyclopedia" of PearlÕs court style is made up of parts of PearlÕs videos from Southern Indiana (DII National Champs, '95) and the University of Wisconsin, '05. It is split into three parts: a lecture where he breaks down defense; on court where defense is shown in a teaching setting; highlight footage where you can see his Tennessee teams using defense in game action. The "Building the defense" segment explains how to select each player for the pressing system. There are many benefits to Pearl's defense. It forces teams to change their style and makes them prepare for you. It can also help you score big and make a game open. And it takes out the opponent mentally and physically. You can use this full court pressure defensive system to manage the pace of games and not react to it.
