Loop & Elbow Offenses And Counter Sets by Cheryl Reeve Instructional Basketball Coaching Video
Cheryl Reeve (Rental)-Loop & Elbow Offenses And Counter Sets $17.99
Cheryl Reeve: Loop and Elbow Offenses and Counter Sets With fewer teams playing with traditional big men, teams have to be able to get the ball inside. Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve takes you through two sets – Loop and Elbow – that she has developed through the years. It’s a motion-oriented half-court offense that uses multiple cutting and screening actions that confuse defenses. In the video, Coach Reeve starts with 5-on-0 demonstrations and builds up to 5-on-5 detailing the spacing and timing needed for success. Loop Series The Loop series starts with the traditional zipper action and then uses such moves as the flash cut that comes on the pass back to the post player who set the down screen of the zipper. Using the flash cut inverts the offense and creates an easy scoring opportunity for a wing who is being defended by someone not used to playing in the post. Other moves used include the flare screen, side ball screen, stagger screen, and double UCLA cut. Coach Reeve shares options out of the Loop that give you ways to take advantage of your personnel. Elbow Series Coach Reeve introduces the Elbow series from a Horns set. The series is a set of plays designed to create favorable matchups and it can be used in late-game situations where execution is critical. One play has the point guard use a UCLA cut after an entry pass to the post player. When this fails, a pin-down screen by the opposite post can generate an easy post-up opportunity. Reeve shows you double-down screens, handoffs, flex actions and more out of the Elbow series. She also touches on how to disguise Elbow plays using the same initial actions used in the Loop series. Using Counters At some point, defenses will catch on to what you are doing and come up with something that takes away some of the best actions of the Elbow and Loop. Coach Reeve goes through a number of counters in both series to take advantage of the defense. In the Loop series for example, Reeve has the player move to the corner looking for the ball if a defense anticipates a down screen. That simple adjustment gives the wing player a look for an open shot. Reeve also shows you how to run Loop to get into Elbow series plays. These multiple options keep opposing defenses guessing while getting your best players the scoring opportunities you want. Reeve is one of the WNBA’s most successful coaches and her exceptional detail in this video will not only help you gain a better understanding of flow and spacing on offense, but also help you to maximize player execution.

Man To Man Defense by Bob Hoffman Instructional Basketball Coaching Video
Bob Hoffman (Rental)-Man To Man Defense $17.99
Open Practice: Man-to-Man Defense Offense will win you games, but defense wins championships. Former Mercer University and current Central Oklahoma head coach Bob Hoffman can attest. In 2014, Hoffman took Mercer to its first ever NCAA tournament and proceeded to knock off No.3 seed Duke in the first round. One of the keys to Hoffman’s success has been an aggressive but flexible man-to-man defense. In this presentation, Coach Hoffman emphasizes the fundamentals of closeouts, footwork, and communication in every drill of this live practice video. You will see how Coach Hoffman balances the importance of these fundamentals while teaching different shell drill variations as well as different ways to defend on-ball screens. Small Group Stations The practice begins with a series of stations. One of Hoffman’s assistants does the teaching as the team is run through a series of drills focused on improving defensive tactics. The drills include: Single-Double Drill: Players learn to coordinate single or double off-ball screens. Closeout-Contain-Chest Up Drill: Helps players improve their on-ball defense by recovering and stopping the offense from scoring. Show Drill: Focuses on hedges when defending a side ball screen. Handling On- and Off-Ball Screens Most coaches use some form of the shell drill to teach and practice team defense. In this segment, Coach Hoffman delivers a number of ways to handle on- and off-ball screens. Players work on defending basket cuts, staggered weak side screens, staggered screens, and baseline drives. The Box Screening Drill is great for working on setting and defending screens. In a small area in a 4-on-4 situation, offensive players work on their timing and spacing while the defense works on fighting through and around down and back screens. Scrimmage The practice session ends with a 5-on-5 scrimmage segment. Here, Coach Hoffman shows you how you can mix up different strategies to defend on-ball screens with switches, jamming the roller, and more. Coach Hoffman’s presentation will prompt you to examine how you play defense. A great communicator who emphasizes fundamental defensive skills, Coach Hoffman presents something that any coach at any level can use in his or her program.
Man to Man Defense Drills & Concepts by David Richman Instructional Basketball Coaching Video
David Richman (Rental)-Man to Man Defense Drills & Concepts $18.99
Man to Man Defense Drills & Concepts Dave Richman began his coaching career at North Dakota State University in 2015 by taking the Bison to the NCAA tournament and winning the Summit League Coach of the Year award. He has produced three 20-win seasons and three NCAA berths and a big part of his success is due to defense. In this video, you get an inside look at an NDSU practice that reveals the foundation of Coach Richman’s man to man defense philosophy. Coach Richman shows you over two dozen drills that develop defensive skills like on-ball defense, closeouts, help defense, and more. Essential Drills & Skills The most important skill in successful team defense is also the hardest one to master – defending the ball. Coach Richman places a great deal of emphasis on challenging ball handlers with a number of daily drills. Two drills teach and reinforce the proper technique for closeouts. Two different 1-on-1 drills continue the refinement of on-ball defense. Players learn to force drives away from the rim while staying in front of the ball handler through the first two defensive slides. Three-Hoop Campaign is an awesome drill that forces players to compete to improve their on-ball defense. Coach Richman also shows some 2-on-2 and 3-on-3 drills that work on other aspects of defense like help and rebounding. He also shares his “Hit, Pinch, Chase” concept that helps defenders maximize their chances of securing a rebound. Transition & Switching Successful defenses are the ones that transition from offense to defense quickly. The Scramble Conversion drill challenges players to rotate through disadvantage situations in transition while also pushing the offense to score quickly with a reduced shot clock. Richman uses 4-on-4 drills to demonstrate how the Bison handle screens. Learn how to switch any offensive action that brings two players near the ball. Coach Richman explains how to defend the pick-and-roll and how to defend four different scenarios that create unique challenges for defenses. This is an outstanding look at how a Division I basketball program teaches its man-to-man defense and is perfect for any coach looking to do the same. Rent this Man to Man Defense DVD today.
Man To Man Defense With Jim Huber by Jim Huber Instructional Basketball Coaching Video
Jim Huber (Rental)-Man To Man Defense With Jim Huber $39.99
Mastering the Huber Defense: Unleashing Defensive Excellence Introduction Welcome to our comprehensive guide on mastering the Huber Defense, a defensive strategy that is sure to elevate your basketball game to new heights. In this article, we will delve into the intricacies of the Huber Defense, providing you with valuable insights, expert tips, and detailed breakdowns to help you outperform your opponents on the court. Whether you're a seasoned basketball player or a novice looking to improve your defensive skills, this guide is your key to unlocking defensive excellence. Understanding the Huber Defense The Huber Defense, named after its creator and renowned basketball coach, Coach Huber, is a highly effective defensive strategy designed to disrupt the opponent's offense and gain a competitive edge. This defensive system emphasizes constant pressure, strategic positioning, and rapid transitions, making it a formidable tactic to counter even the most skilled offensive players. Key Principles of the Huber Defense 1. Aggressive Ball Pressure One of the fundamental principles of the Huber Defense is applying relentless ball pressure. This involves staying close to your assigned opponent, denying them easy passing lanes, and pressuring them into making mistakes. By applying intense ball pressure, you force the opposing team into rushed decisions, turnovers, and ultimately disrupt their offensive flow. 2. Help Defense and Rotations Another crucial aspect of the Huber Defense is the emphasis on help defense and rotations. Effective communication and teamwork are vital in executing timely rotations to cover open players and provide support to teammates in defensive transitions. By maintaining constant awareness and employing swift rotations, you can neutralize scoring opportunities and frustrate the opposition. 3. Active Hands and Deflections Active hands and deflections play a pivotal role in the success of the Huber Defense. By actively contesting passes, disrupting dribbles, and deflecting the ball, you create chaos for the offense, forcing turnovers and creating fast break opportunities. Mastering the art of deflections requires anticipation, quick reflexes, and precise timing, all of which contribute to the overall effectiveness of the Huber Defense. Implementing the Huber Defense To successfully implement the Huber Defense, you need to focus on key strategies and techniques. Let's explore some of the essential elements that will enhance your defensive prowess: 1. Communication and Defensive Assignments Clear and effective communication is essential in the Huber Defense. Assigning defensive roles, switching assignments when necessary, and maintaining constant communication with your teammates ensure seamless execution of the defensive system. By communicating effectively, you can anticipate offensive movements, adjust defensive positions, and quickly respond to any changes on the court. 2. Footwork and Stance Proper footwork and defensive stance are crucial for maintaining balance, agility, and the ability to quickly react to offensive moves. Maintain a low stance, with your knees flexed, and your weight evenly distributed on the balls of your feet. This position allows for quick lateral movements, better stability, and the ability to stay in front of your opponent effectively. 3. Anticipation and Timing Anticipating offensive plays and reading your opponent's movements are vital skills in executing the Huber Defense. By studying your opponent's tendencies, recognizing offensive patterns, and developing a keen sense of anticipation, you can disrupt their rhythm and gain a significant advantage. Timing is equally important; knowing when to contest shots, steal passes, or help defensively can make a significant impact on the outcome of the game. The Benefits of the Huber Defense Mastering the Huber Defense offers numerous benefits that can elevate your defensive capabilities and contribute to  the success of your team. Here are some of the key benefits of implementing the Huber Defense: 1. Defensive Intensity and Pressure The Huber Defense is known for its relentless intensity and pressure on the opposing team. By applying constant ball pressure and disrupting passing lanes, you force the offense into making mistakes, turnovers, and poor shot selections. This defensive strategy creates a sense of unease and frustration for the opposition, leading to a higher chance of turnovers and reduced scoring opportunities. 2. Disrupting Offensive Flow The Huber Defense excels at disrupting the flow of the opposing team's offense. With its emphasis on active hands, deflections, and quick rotations, this defensive system can throw off offensive plays and force the opposition into improvisation. By disrupting their rhythm and timing, you can neutralize their most potent offensive weapons and gain a significant advantage. 3. Fast Break Opportunities A key advantage of the Huber Defense is its ability to generate fast break opportunities. By creating turnovers and securing defensive rebounds, you can initiate quick transitions from defense to offense. This fast-paced style of play often catches opponents off guard, allowing your team to capitalize on scoring opportunities before the defense has a chance to set up. 4. Team Cohesion and Communication Implementing the Huber Defense requires a high level of teamwork, cohesion, and communication among players. Each team member must understand their defensive assignments, rotate effectively, and communicate seamlessly to cover open players and anticipate offensive movements. By working together cohesively, your team can establish a strong defensive presence and make it difficult for opponents to find open scoring opportunities. 5. Psychological Advantage The Huber Defense not only impacts the physical aspect of the game but also has a psychological effect on the opposing team. The constant pressure, active hands, and disruptive nature of this defensive strategy can lead to frustration, doubt, and decreased confidence for the opposition. As a result, the Huber Defense can tilt the momentum in your team's favor, demoralize opponents, and create a psychological advantage that can greatly impact the outcome of the game. Conclusion Mastering the Huber Defense is a game-changer for any basketball player or team seeking to elevate their defensive performance. By implementing the key principles, techniques, and strategies outlined in this guide, you can outperform opponents and establish defensive excellence on the court. Remember, the Huber Defense is not just a defensive strategy; it's a mindset that demands relentless effort, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence. So, lace up your sneakers, study the Huber Defense, and unlock the true potential of your defensive skills. It's time to dominate the game!
Man to Man Defense: It's Not What You Do, It's How You Do It by Vic Schaefer Instructional Basketball Coaching Video
Vic Schaefer (Rental)-Man to Man Defense: It's Not What You Do, It's How You Do It $18.99
Man-to-Man Defense: It’s Not What You Do, It’s How You Do It New Texas women’s head coach Vic Schaefer turned Mississippi State into one of the best programs in the nation. He took the Bulldogs to back-to-back national runner-up finishes in 2017 and 2018. A three-time (2015, 2018, 2019) SEC Coach of the Year, Schaefer was able to build the Bulldogs into a national power by sticking to a philosophy that demands an uncommon level of excellence. In this video, you will see how Schaefer demonstrates his approach using nine defensive drills that build the pressure man-to-man defense. Learn how to maximize the effectiveness of these drills and learn teaching points to help develop an aggressive defense. Core Defensive Drills Watch as Coach Schaefer takes you through some of his everyday drills. You’ll see something unique in the “Approach Stance” drill. Schaefer show you how to help players improve their lateral quickness using his method of pivoting. Other tactics he shares include identifying a ball handler’s pivot foot, which can help defenders apply maximum pressure on the ball. Coach Schaefer also shows you how to blow up screens with physical play. He also shows you how to alter an offense’s route based on the location of the screen in order to stay up the line in pass denial. Defending Common Actions One of Schaefer’s favorite everyday drills is “3-Out 1-In” which emphasizes pressure on the ball while teaching defenders how to deny passes based on their proximity to a post player. The drill can also be used to install ball screen defense. In the drill, you also learn how Schaefer taught the Bulldogs to attack pick and rolls with a hard show. The 3-on-3 Rebounding Drill is an excellent multipurpose drill. Players are challenged to take away dribble handoffs and guard backdoor cuts while being ready to go “butt in the gut” when a shot goes up. The 7-Point Defensive Drill is quite possibly the best defensive drill ever to teach multiple phases of any defensive system. Players must deny the wing, take away backdoor cuts, front the post, find help position, and much more all in a single drill. After seeing Coach Schaefer’s presentation, you’ll see why he has won numerous awards and why he was hired at Texas. Rent this Man to Man Defense DVD today.
Man to Man Defense: Preventing Dribble Penetration & Popular Actions by Justin Hutson Instructional Basketball Coaching Video
Justin Hutson (Rental)-Man to Man Defense: Preventing Dribble Penetration & Popular Actions $18.99
Man-to-Man Defense: Preventing Dribble Penetration & Defending Popular Actions From his time as an assistant at San Diego State to now being the head coach at Fresno State, Justin Hutson has had a knack for building solid defenses. For Hutson, great defenses are built on a few principles and have the flexibility to adjust to different opponents based on scouting. In this video, Coach Hutson will show you how he locks down offenses with drills that teach how to stop dribble penetration, deny the post, defend ball screens, and stop elite shooters. Preventing Dribble Penetration With the increased use of ball screens and dribble penetration on offense, it is absolutely imperative that defenses protect the paint. Coach Hutson uses the Shell Drill to show you how he stops drives in the lane. Two variations of the drill teach how to defend gaps in the defense. One key belief in Hutson’s defense is that “only suckers drive the baseline.” You’ll see how the defense takes away the baseline with sharp rotations and traps. Defending Popular Actions The best defenses can adapt to the common actions that offenses run. Hutson shows you a drill that helps train defenders to play against an elite shooter. He breaks down how to fight through different screens and emphasizes how help defenders can assist and hold the shooter in check. Coach Hutson also demonstrates how to force side ball screens toward the baseline. Another drill teaches the details of defending the post in various situations. Hutson likes his team to vary their post defense from all-out denial in some situations to playing behind with a great shot blocker. Another drill teaches defenders playing off the ball to deny cutters, shrink the floor, and dig at the ball in the low post. Full-Court Defense For defenses to be really good, they must excel in transition. Coach Hutson first shows you his offensive rebounding and then the defensive responsibilities on missed baskets. He will show you a unique method for transition defense that allows teams to maintain matchups. Hutson also shows you how to pressure on made baskets with the 55 defense. Coach Hutson offers a number of great ideas and provides insight into a high-level defense that can be used with your team.
