Quick Offense Basketball - Early Shot Clock Offense and Side Out Specials
Oklahoma State head coach Mike Boynton Jr. shows you how to exploit man-to-man defenses with an efficient secondary break in this quick offense basketball video. He demonstrates his team’s attack in this on-court presentation and shows you how it can take advantage of your ever-changing personnel. Coach Boynton played collegiately at South Carolina and then served as an assistant under Brad Underwood at Stephen F. Austin and Oklahoma State. In 2018, Boynton led the Cowboys to four wins over top-10 teams.
Transition Offense
Coach Boynton starts his quick offense basketball presentation talking about how he learned to play in transition from high school through college. The traditional secondary break alignment that features a rim runner with two wings and a trailer was something that did not fit Coach Boynton’s personnel when he was at Oklahoma State as both an assistant and a head coach.
Boynton then made adjustments to his transition game by taking advantage of what his players did best. Three players and the trailer are basically interchangeable and can fill any of the three perimeter slots. Without a rim runner, the floor is opened up and the point guard has more freedom to attack and probe. The primary action Coach Boynton uses is called “Quick One” which is a drag ball screen play for the point guard if the rim cannot be attacked.
Quick Variations
There are ways to get other players involved with actions similar to Quick One. For example, Quick Two is a play where the wing gets involved and uses a ball screen. The wing can receive a dribble hand-off from the point guard and come off the ball screen set by the trailer.
Quick Four has the trailer and the wing that isn’t in the corner set a double ball screen for the point guard. The trailer rolls to the rim and the wing pops out for a potential 3-point shot. The offense then has the ability to get a post-up or a jump shot from the wing that popped out. You will also see Quick Four Flip, a variation of Quick Four which is used against defenses that like to switch.
Pistol
One action that is becoming more popular is the Pistol. It is perfect for late-game situations because it leads to drives to the basket and open 3-point looks. Coach Boynton includes a few counters to the original Pistol action that you can use if the initial hand-of is not available. Pistol Empty takes advantage of teams that try to anticipate hand-offs. The wing gets a flare screen from the trailer without setting up for a pass from the point or a step-up ball screen.
Coach Boynton packs his presentation full of quick strike actions. It is one of the most important aspects of becoming a good transition team and you will see how you can use the actions taught to score quickly against man-to-man defenses. Rent this quick offense basketball DVD today.

Ed DeChellis
(Rental)-Ed Dechellis: 1--3--1 Extended Half Court Zone
$15.99
Playing the 1-3-1 zone defense is a great way to get rid of your opponent's best player. You can also move other players in defense. A player must be athletic and able to finish at the opposite end of the 1-3-1 zone. The back position is best for a point guard-type player. He covers a wide area from corner to corner, and must be a good communicator. The 3-man covers the left side, from wing block to wing. The best rebounder is the 4-man. He starts on the left wing. The 5-man is the best rebounder and sets up at the line of free throws. His coverage starts from the top of the key block. This defense must discourage the offensive from passing the ball. DeChellis reduces the zone by placing the ball in different places on the floor. To fine-tune the defense, drills are provided. DeChellis describes the 1-3-1 zone as a "high risk, high reward attack" which can quickly change the pace and leave athletic opponents tired.

Steve Schmidt
(Rental)-Effective Practice Drills For Skill Development
$15.99
Effective Practice Drills for Individual Skill Development
Looking to build your players’ skill development? Legendary junior college coach Steve Schmidt does just that in this video where he uses on-court demonstrations to take you through 13 different drills that help players develop better handling, shooting, passing, and footwork skills.
Schmidt, the head coach at Mott Community College in Michigan, is the winningest active coach at the NJCAA level with nearly 700 wins and a winning percentage of .822. His teams have been to eight Final Fours and have won four national titles. Sixteen of his players have earned All-American recognition and four have been the NJCAA player of the year.
The presentation begins with an on-court ball handling routine that develops players ball handling skills and improves their confidence with the ball in their hands. The routine includes both full- and half-court drills in an effort to build players’ weak hands and teach dribble moves so they can run the offense.
After ball handling drills comes passing drills. Coach Schmidt’s 3-Man Passing Drills work on passing and catching on the move as well as weak hand development and hand-eye coordination. The ability to pass and catch under control can help influence the next move a player can make. During each of the drills, Coach Schmidt offers up coaching tips that have helped his players become successful.
Coach Schmidt then dives into a series of footwork and shooting drills with the idea that players can become a threat from any position on the floor if they work at it. Watch as Schmidt teaches players to get to the rim in only one dribble. Learn how players can incorporate jump stops, layups, reverse layups, and right-left foot combination shots that will help them score from anywhere in the paint.
Coach Schmidt’s presentation is an outstanding way to refine your players’ skills and take your team to the next level!

Anthony Carlyle
(Rental)-Effective Zone Offense Set Plays

Effective Zone Offense Set Plays
Zone defenses are being employed more and more at every level of basketball these days. Five-time state champion head coach Anthony Carlyle has built a tradition at Yazoo City HS (MS) using zone sets the provide multiple scoring options against any type of zone defense. He shares many of those simple but effective plays with you in this video.
Philosophy of Zone Offense
With a belief in working on your weaknesses, Coach Carlyle has crafted a zone offense designed to score against any zone defense. At one point in his career, his teams struggled with zone defenses. He decided to put his players to work and learn how to apply man-to-man principles while running their zone sets. The result was a philosophy that he still believes in today.
Set Plays
For Coach Carlyle, set plays against a zone start with false action or some sort of misdirection to help create a scoring opportunity either on the perimeter or in the paint. He explains some his set plays in detail:
“L” is a play where the offense sets the defense up for a lob pass to the team’s most athletic player. The lob creates misdirection and allows a skip pass to your best 3-point shooter.
“Wing Double” creates a scoring opportunity for your best shooter by setting up the defense as you look for gaps to dribble penetrate.
“Screen” is a play where your wing looks to screen the middle of the zone to free up your best post player for a layup or a post-up. An added bonus is the skip pass out of the post to your best shooter or scorer.
In the 14 Series, players begin in a 1-4 set and work to create scoring options for your best shooter. One option uses a ball screen to create a 2-on-1 for your best penetrator.
Coach Carlyle offers up some of the best ways to score against a zone defense in this video. You will see all sorts of demonstrations for how to beat the zone using screens, skip passes, and more. If you struggle against zone defenses, this presentation is for you! Rent this Zone Offense Set Plays DVD today.

Dave Richman
(Rental)-Eliminating Losing Plays to Win More Basketball Games
$18.99
Eliminating Losing Plays to Win More Games
Teams that can win 65 percent of their possessions in a game set themselves up well for success. North Dakota State head coach Dave Richman believes simple fundamentals can help teams win those crucial possessions and build successful programs.
In this video, Coach Richman discusses the framework for winning which includes being prepared for those late-game, win-or-lose situations. You will watch as Coach Richman gives you ideas on how to keep all of your players engaged on every play. Watch as athletes lock in during warmups, transition drills, rebound situations, and defensive scenarios.
Energy Drills
Oftentimes, practices do not start with energy. Coach Richman offers up an effective way to build energy early in a practice. Three simple drills allow coaches to test how much effort players are actually giving early on in practice. These drills set the stage and reinforce fundamental plays on the ball. Using these drills also translates into fewer turnovers in the long run.
“8-to-Great-to-Late” Possession Philosophy
Some feel the “8-to-Great-to-Late” possession philosophy is too up-tempo. Richman doesn’t. He likes to let his players play within the limits of this possession practice. He does so for the following reasons:
The offense utilizes space, takes advantage of momentum, and is always on the attack
Keeps the game simple with east-west movement creating north-south scoring chances
Allows for comfort in late shot clock and late-game situations and exposes undisciplined defenses
Conversion Level Drill
This drill helps players work on matchup adjustments on defense. Coach Richman goes through all the personnel assignments using this drill. Players then understand how to adjust to different types of scoring threats that they will go up against.
The greatest part of Coach Richman’s presentation is that it gives a purpose and focus to why fundamentals are so important. You will see how emphasis on fundamentals is the key to winning crucial situations in games. This video is a great guide for new coaches and a refresher for veterans that need to stay on top of their game.

Rob McClanaghan

Elite Basketball: Perimeter Player Development
Professional basketball trainer Rob McClanaghan has trained some of the NBA’s and WNBA’s best. Players like Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, and Candace Parker have all trained with McClanaghan. In this video, the NBA skills trainer lays out his blueprint for building the complete perimeter player.
Coach McClanaghan starts with shooting and moves through stationary and moving ball-handling drills, change of direction drills, and drills for working on using ball screens.
Elite Basketball Shooting Form
The fundamentals of shooting are important at any level. Coach McClanaghan demonstrates how to properly shoot the ball. Players then work on mastering their technique and form.
Stationary & Moving Ball-Handling
No matter what level a player is at, they must work on the basic fundamentals. One of those, of course, is ball-handling. Coach McClanaghan puts players through a set of 10 simple, effective, and time-efficient drills that help players improve their dribbling technique. Players also see several new dribbling moves that create scoring opportunities for everyone on the floor.
Change of Speed/Direction
To be a great perimeter player, one must be able to deceive defenders by changing speed and/or direction. Coach McClanaghan helps players build these skills with a set of “off the wing” moves. Players must have a strong jab step.
McClanaghan demonstrates an effective jab step and then adds a counter. Each move that players develop must have a counter. Having a variety of moves makes a player that much more potent when they get the ball on the wing.
Ball Screens
Today’s offenses utilize the ball screen more and more. To be an effective guard or wing, players must be able to set up defenders and use ball screens. Coach McClanaghan works with players to help them read the defense. That way, players can work against hedges, hard hedges, traps, and defenders going under the screen.
McClanaghan also works on dribble pull-ups, lateral action, and drive and kicks. Each has a drill or two that helps players develop these skills. Like the rest of his drills, these are not only designed for skill development, they also help players learn to perform under pressure and serve as conditioning drills.
This DVD is loaded with ideas and drills from one of the NBA’s best skills trainers. Let Coach McClanaghan help you build quality perimeter players by adding this to your coaching video library. Rent this elite basketball perimeter player DVD today.

Rob McClanaghan
(Rental)-Elite Level Post Player Development
$19.99
Elite Level Post Player Drills & Development
To develop their skills at an elite level, NBA players like Russell Westbrook, Kevin Love, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry turn to professional basketball trainer Rob Mcclanaghan. He has helped develop some of the game’s best post players and in this presentation he takes you through the same drills he uses with the likes of Anthony Davis and the WNBA’s Candace Parker.
Players learn how to create scoring opportunities with their back to the basket. McClanaghan works on catching and facing up, duck-ins, rebounding, and more. Regardless of position, players learn to become more effective scorers.
Back to the Basket Post Player Drills
The work beings close to the rim which helps players build the skills they need to progress and move further away from the basket. For every move and drill, Coach McClanaghan teaches the details that players need in order to beat defenders and score around the rim using no dribble, one dribble, or a combination of the two.
For each move, McClanaghan teaches a counter move to keep defenders off balance. The Turnaround Series helps players develop patience in working near the rim. They learn to use effective footwork, stay low, and beat defenders in the low post.
Catch and Face Post Player Drills
Post players move from the low block to the mid- and high post. To be effective in scoring from these areas, players must be able to catch the ball and square up to the basket to create scoring opportunities. Coach McClanaghan teaches a number of drills, which can all be used on the perimeter as well. This helps make post players more versatile.
By using the Jab Step, Coach McClanaghan shows a series of moves and counters that allow players to rip and attack the basketball using a spin back, 1-2 shot, or pushback shot.
Duck-Ins, Rebounding, and Trail Shot Post Player Drills
The final segment in the presentation involves duck-in moves and rebounding around the basket. Having these finishing skills is vital for any post player, especially against strong defenders. Coach McClanaghan talks about “holding the seal” which can help any post player gain an advantage when using these finishing moves.
You will see a great rebounding drill that helps develop quickness and hand-eye coordination. Players also learn to rebound, gain control, and finish on the offensive end. Another drill has posts run the floor. Players must be able to put the ball on the floor and finish with a jump shot. The jump shot drill is also a good conditioning drills for posts.
This is as good a video as there is on the market for developing post players. Coach McClanaghan gives you the drills and guides you through an effective post workout. Rent this post player drills & development DVD today.

Mike Dunlap
(Rental)-Encyclopedia Of The 1--1--3 Match--up Zone Defense (dunlap)
$15.99
Mike Dunlap has had an incredibly successful coaching career and much of it is due to his knowledge of defense. He has compiled everything he has learned from some of the most famous 1-1-3 defenses to create his own pressure defense. He goes into incredible detail on how to coach and implement this defense into your program. This is an amazing opportunity for you to drastically improve your teams defense by causing confusion and forcing turnovers.
Five Trademarks of the 1-1-3
Coach Dunlap introduces and goes into amazing detail of his five trademarks of the 1-1-3 defense: stance, hands, jumping to the ball, communication, and rebounding. Within each trademark is a common theme of extreme ball pressure. Each drill is designed to teach the player how to make the ball handler uncomfortable to taking away his air space. These drills and teaching points are also very applicable to your man-to-man defense as they are based in individual player fundamentals.
Coach Dunlap introduces the first three trademarks as a way to properly defend the ball. He teaches players to trace the line of the ball with active hands and proper footwork to force the ball handler where you want them to go. He also teaches active hands to keep good shooters uncomfortable by keeping the hand in line with the ball. The goal of jumping to the ball is to keep proper defensive spacing and extreme ball pressure. This is a difficult habit to en grain but Dunlap shows tremendous drills that will have your players working as one unit with pressure all over the court.
Perhaps the two most important trademarks of the 1-1-3 zone defense is communication and defense. Without these two skills nothing else matters. Dunlap shows a tremendous teaching technique to help your players communicate using shot one-word phrases. Dunlap does a great job of teaching how to rebound out of a zone that you can use with any of your zone defenses. He stresses putting players into proper positions, solidifying the weak side and creating a triangle around the rim, along with being able to anticipate misses by playing percentages.
Technical Skills
Having a fundamental knowledge of the 1-1-3 match up zone is not enough. Dunlap also goes into great detail into the more overlooked, technical aspects of playing this defense. These include but are not limited to long and short close outs, footwork, cheat steps, and understanding how to force the offensive ball handler into difficult situations.

Coach Tyler Whitcomb uses his 4-1 defense to take multiple shots at opposing offenses. Whitcomb uses the 4-1 defense to create opportunities for his teams to trap the corners and trap the wings as additional looks. This demonstration will give you a full guide on how to run the 4-1 defense to confuse your opponents.
Positioning
Whitcomb starts by discussing the importance of Whitcomb's defensive plan with his most important player. The defense's "middle-linebacker," or center, is responsible for communicating with the four other players about where they should position themselves when the ball moves.
The "cornerbacks" are the players closest to the wings. They are responsible for covering the corners and taking any initial passes to the wings. The remaining two players must cover the elbows of the point guard and add length to the top zone with a second defender.
The ball's position allows for lob passes, and the defense of the short corner on the ball side against an offense with a 2-1-2 line. The middle linebacker tries to steal the ball, while the opposing side cornerback robs the basket of any attempt at a lob.
Corner
The whole purpose of the 4-1 zone defense system is to encourage passes into the corner. The trap is set when the ball touches the ground. You'll then see Coach Whitcomb explain the roles of the remaining three players. The elbow defenders will be responsible for preventing any return pass from the trap or pass to the highpost. Two defenders will be assigned to the remaining cornerback. The cornerback should also be aware of any backdoors or flash cuts that may be attempted by the offense.
Whitcomb explains that the defense simulates rotations against an offense in live action. Rotations against a 3-1-3-1 formation are also shown, where communication is essential by the middle linebacker.
Multiple Looks
The 4-1 defense can cause more problems for the offense by changing the way traps are set. One example is a "Blast" call. This is where the point guard is held hostage by two middle defenders as they bring the ball to the front court. Fire is the opposite of Blast. This call allows the ball to be passed to the wing, where it will be caught on the catch.
The 4-1 defense has the advantage of being able to adjust to the offense's alignment. The defense uses color coding to create different ways it can adapt to the offense's alignment. These colors are:
Orange - Change the alignment to create a 2-3 zone look (like Syracuse's runs).
Blue - Adjust alignment to create a 1-3-1 look.
Green - Change the alignment to 1-2-2 zones.
Purple - Change the alignment to a zone of 3-2.
You can create an extra look by starting in a 4-1, then jumping into a man to-man defense. This is usually done by calling out the name and number of a player.
Your program will benefit from this comprehensive and in-depth look at the 4-1 defense. Coach Whitcomb takes the time to demonstrate a complex defense.
