Corner Offense, Set Plays, & Practice Drills by Cheryl Reeve Instructional Basketball Coaching Video
Cheryl Reeve (Rental)-Corner Offense, Set Plays, & Practice Drills $17.99
Cheryl Reeve: Corner Offense, Set Plays and Practice Drills Cheryl Reeve helped build the Minnesota Lynx franchise into one that has dominated the WNBA. Reeve has guided the Lynx to four WNBA championships and has twice won the league’s Coach of the Year award. A big part of her success comes from the drills you will see in this video. Not only do the drills help in player development, they also help to establish a certain culture, one that has helped the Lynx win. Practice Drills You will see Coach Reeve’s version of the classic layup drill and other full-court drills that help prepare players for her up-tempo style of play. These drills emphasize conditioning, competition, and efficiency. Players work on changing direction and attacking the basket off the dribble. Other drills include: Three-Man Weave: Works on spreading the floor and firing the ball ahead in transition while eliminating bad passes and missed layups. Secondary Drill: Learn to use ball screens in the secondary break and how to teach them to your players. Speed Drill: Work on quick outlet passes and advance passes to players running the floor in a continuous fast break drill. Corner Offense An alternative to the Triangle offense, the Corner offense is great for teams with good shooters, big guards that can post up, or teams that don’t have a dominant post player. Proper spacing spreads the floor for cuts to the basket and post up opportunities by guards. Coach Reeve breaks down the multiple options in her Corner offense, showing you how ball movement helps to open up scoring opportunities. Split screens, flare screens, and dribble handoffs are all used to create 3-point attempts or easy layups. You will also see how Coach Reeve counters certain defenses by using back door cuts, corner passes, and ball reversals to get two-man actions on the weak side. No matter what a defense throws at you, the Corner offense has an answer. Set Plays Coach Reeve demonstrates some set plays that she has used with great success. There are three plays out of the Corner alignment, two variations using spread ball screens, and an end-of-game play for a 3-point shot. The plays include: Cheek: This is a great play that uses a back screen to post up on a smaller guard or get an open 3-pointer. Thumbs Up: Using misdirection with a screen the screener action on the perimeter, this play can result in either a layup or 3-point shot. Punch: This is a great play to involve the weak side of the Corner offense and get an open look for your best shooter coming off a screen. This is a wonderful look at an offensive philosophy that has been used with great success at the game’s highest levels. It is simple enough that coaches at levels can benefit from the drills and plays taught in this presentation.

Kelvin Sampson (Rental)-Running a High Powered Basketball Offense: Spacing, Sets, & Inbound Plays $18.99
Running a High-Powered Offense: Spacing, Sets & Inbound Plays Kelvin Sampson has turned the Houston Cougars into a national power largely because of the proficiency of his offenses. In this video, captured at a Houston practice, Sampson shows you how prioritizing spacing helps to increase ball movement and helps break down defenses. He also shares multiple baseline and sideline inbounds plays. Offensive Approach Coach Sampson introduces his base offense first before hitting the court. You’ll see how he spaces the floor with four perimeter players and then how he uses concepts like ghost screens and scrapes to create movement and open up defenses. Next is a series of plays right out of the Cougars playbook. Sampson draws up the Loop series and then demonstrates it on the court. It begins with a 1-4 high set and creates easy backdoors for layups. You also see an additional set from a 1-4 high alignment as well as two options out of Floppy action. Chicago creates an open jumper for a post player while Detroit creates a difficult ball screen situation to defend off of Floppy. Inbounds Plays Sampson gives you a number of great inbounds plays. The first set of plays are baseline inbound sets. They include: 21 – A box set screen-the-screener action to get an open jumper and a post-up. 51 – 3 seconds or less for a quick shot on the weak side with a player rolling to the hoop. Quick – Play that yields a cross screen post-up, a shot at the top of the key, and a pick and roll option to follow. 52 – Get a quick high-low to a post player off of a tight back screen. Thumb Down – Use an elevator screen for a 3-pointer. Thumb Down Counter – A rip screen counter. Slice Weak – A misdirection play for a quick pin down jumper run from a box set. The next set of plays is for sideline inbounds. They include: Slice Weak – It’s the same concept as the baseline Slice Weak run from a zipper screen. Quick – Same as the baseline play except now from the sideline. Loop 2 – A pick and roll play with an empty corner. Barber Pole – Great play to get action toward the rim with a back screen and a cleared out side. Coach Sampson is one of the best offensive minds in the college game. 2 Man & 3 Man Game Offensive Reads & Concepts for Basketball by Chantal Vallee Instructional Basketball Coaching Video
Chantal Vallee (Rental)-2 Man & 3 Man Game Offensive Reads & Concepts for Basketball $18.99
2 Man Basketball Plays & 3-Man Game: Offensive Reads & Concepts Hamilton Honey Badgers head coach and general manager Chantel Vallee was the first female in Canada to become a professional head coach and GM. What separates her from the rest of the pack is an ability to teach the game like no other. In this 2 Man Basketball Plays video, Coach Vallee breaks down her dribble handoff action and how it is used to create an explosive, unpredictable, and un-scoutable defense. You will see demonstrations of the offense and how to master the different actions that make up the offense. Dribble Handoff Action The offense is initiated with a dribble handoff executed high up the floor. This allows for more space. Players learn how to read what defenders give them and what they may do after a handoff is made. This helps players identify easy scoring opportunities and how to make quick decisions. Missed Dribble Handoff In becoming more familiar with the offense, players must develop their basketball IQ. If players miss a handoff or if they pick up their dribble, they still have options to score. They must know these options – especially cutters – to put pressure on defenses. Post Entry If you have a strong post player that can score, bringing him/her higher up the floor can create some mismatches. Coach Vallee demonstrates a few options that include the post not putting the ball on the floor and looking to pass to a cutter right away. This creates an opportunity for the cutter and also for the post player rolling to the basket or popping out after the pass. Step Up Ball Screen Watch as Coach Vallee uses a 2-on-2 drill to break down all the possible options for defending a ball screen. Icing it, going over the top, and going under the screen are covered. Coach Vallee also demonstrates the 2-man game off-ball action as part of her Elbow series. The ball goes to the post in the middle and players create screening action off the ball and learn to read how a defense reacts. Multiple Actions Players that can master the 2-man game actions are ones that will make your team more versatile. You can use multiple 2-man games to add actions together and make it difficult for defenses to prepare. This is an excellent video for teaching players how to read defenses and to build a player’s basketball IQ. It’s a must-have for coaches looking to dominate 2- and 3-man situations. Allowing Your Players Freedom on the Court by Steve Christiansen Instructional Basketball Coaching Video
Steve Christiansen (Rental)-Allowing Your Players Freedom on the Court $18.99
Man to Man Offense Basketball DVD - Allowing Your Players Freedom on the Court The trend in modern basketball is to play a positionless style where all players are basically equally skilled and able to handle the basketball, pass, shoot, and post up and play inside. In order for the positionless offense to work, players must have the skills necessary and they must buy in to the approach. Triton College head coach Steve Christiansen discusses player freedom in this man to man offense baskestball video and how to incorporate it into your own system regardless of the scheme. Coach Christiansen explains the benefits of giving players freedom which allows coaches to create buy-in and, ultimately, positionless players. Basketball Practice Drills The presentation begins with Coach Christiansen explaining his coaching philosophy and why he allows players freedom on the court. His discussion provides some insight and ideas that can hopefully generate some thought in regards to your own coaching philosophy. Coach Christiansen then moves into his favorite practice drills. He starts with ball handling drills which helps develop the skills needed to play with freedom in a positionless offense. The drills progress to full-court action with an emphasis on freedom. You will watch two drills that work on decision making. The drills incorporate the ball handling skills practiced in the earlier drills. The Drive-and-Dish drill works from a 2-on-1 situation where players learn to be aggressive and read a defense all while maintaining the idea of freedom. The Cut Throat Drill is another favorite as it promotes competition and can be customized to emphasize offense or defense. It is one of several that Christiansen reviews in this segment. Man to Man Offense Basketball The presentation concludes with Coach Christiansen outlining his man-to-man offense. Players are taught to make plays from a 4-out, 1-in setup. The offense is simple to learn and allows players the type of freedom that Christiansen talks about throughout the presentation. Coach Christiansen adds in a passing drill that teaches players the flow of the offense. The idea with Christiansen’s drills, especially those that work on the man-to-man offense, is to allow players to grow and develop as they work on their game. Too often, coaches can stand in the way of players reaching their potential. Coach Christiansen shows you how to maximize player freedom in a simple offense that can help your program excel. Horns Sets vs Man to Man Defense by Ben Jacobson Instructional Basketball Coaching Video
Ben Jacobson (Rental)-Horns Sets vs Man to Man Defense $18.99
Horns Sets vs. Man-to-Man Defense Northern Iowa basketball has flourished under head coach Ben Jacobson who has found a way to carve up defenses in the half-court with a variety of horns sets. In this Horns Sets video, Coach Jacobson shares many of his half-court set plays and why they actually work. At UNI, Jacobson has had great success winning two Missouri Valley Conference regular season titles and three conference tournament championships. More often than not, Coach Jacobson has guided the Panthers to a top three finish in the MVC during his tenure. Learn why his sets work and how he has adapted them to build a solid foundation of play. Horns Sets In Coach Jacobson’s version of the Horns set, he puts his top two post players at the free throw line and his best shooter in the corner to create space in the defense. The posts create various screening actions which lead to multiple scoring options. Coach Jacobson focuses on the details, especially setting screens, so that his players understand how to attack the defense. Jacobson helps you understand how your players should use the various types of scoring actions. For example, in the base set a dribble hand-off into a double screen is used to allow your best shooter to turn the corner and attack the basket or pull up for an easy jump shot. Comeback Action is a play where the post sprints out and sets a ball screen for the shooting guard. Players must be able to read defenses to understand when and how to attack. 2-1-2 Sets The final segment of Coach Jacobson’s presentation focuses on a number of 2-1-2 sets where players learn to attack screens coming from the wing. Post players learn these plays are great opportunities for them to score. Posts set screens and roll back into the paint where they can seal off a defender and post up. Coach Jacobson’s presentation is full of set plays that work against any defense. This video is 67 minutes of pure offense and if you are in need of some ideas to spark your scoring, you will find it here! Rent this Horns Sets DVD today.
