Green Light Shooting: Determining Shot Selection Basketball and Shot Distribution
University of Arkansas women’s head basketball coach Mike Neighbors is well known throughout coaching circles for his ability to coach millennial players to success. Coach Neighbors has been the common factor behind rebuilding efforts at Tulsa, Xavier, and Washington. With 25 years of experience in the game, Coach Neighbors has developed what he calls the “Green Light” shooter. He has developed a proven method to justify roles within a program. In this video, Coach Neighbors shares his “Green Light License” and a number of shooting drills that will improve shot consistency and endurance.
Green Light Shot License
The key to Coach Neighbors’ offensive hierarchy is determining which players can be “Green Light” shooters. Using a time-tested proven method, Neighbors can identify which players have the freedom to take more shots. The system allows Neighbors to address those who feel that a certain player takes too many shots or other players that deserve more shots. The Green Light License justifies team roles through shooting percentages in drills, practices, and games.
Basketball Shooting Drills
Coach Neighbors shares 10 perimeter drills, including both individual and team shooting drills. Each of the drills has the opportunity to qualify a player as a green light perimeter shooter. You will see drills like “Sobered Shooting” and “And-1 Shooting” which can be used in a number of ways. They can be used as green light qualifiers, standards for your team, or in pre- or post-practice situations. Coach Neighbors also includes a few team shooting drills that prepare players for “game shots from game spots at game pace.”
The whole “Green Light” policy and the qualifying drills have been used in a number of ways by Coach Neighbors. One way the content in this video can be used is to help defend your best player’s shot selection. It also helps coaches in player or parent meetings centered on playing time and/or shot volume.
This 113-minute shot selection basketball video from Coach Neighbors is a must-have for coaches looking not only to improve shot selection and shooting, but also for those coaches that need to answer any locker room debates or to answer any players’ or parents’ questions regarding shot volume and/or playing time. Matt Figger
(Rental)-Modern 2 Game Offense for Basketball
$9.50
$18.99
The 2-Game Offense is a way to spread the floor and keep defenses guessing, while giving you great shot opportunities from the perimeter.
This article provides a complete overview of the 2-Game Offense, and what makes it so successful.
Optional and set plays that seamlessly flow into the 2-Game Offense.
You will find key ball screens to make the 2-Game Offense more efficient, as well as drills, offensive rebounding, and coaching tips!
To win basketball games, you must get the ball in the paint. To get to the key, you can create open threes and high-percentage shots. This will also allow teams to reach the free throw line. An offense can usually get there via the drive or post touch. This video will be shown by Coach Matt Figger. It focuses on the modern 2-Game offense, which focuses on getting the ball onto the paint through post touches while keeping the floor spread.
These are the options and sets that make up 2-Game. They will show you how to put it into practice right away.
You'll learn:
Basic setup
Options for perimeter and post
Plays
You will need to do all the necessary drills!
Overview and Introduction to 2-Game
Coach Matt Figger shares his reflections on the lessons learned as coaches during the COVID pandemic. He also explains how coaches have been able to learn from this experience and find ways to improve their effectiveness.
Figger has modified the offense in response to analytics regarding the effectiveness of 3-point shots, points in the paint and guard drive time.
Coach Figger demonstrates how the 2-Game Offense can help you be a more efficient post team, even when you don't have large players. This offense has many screen reads and cuts, making it difficult to monitor and very challenging to guard well. It also opens up the doors to great opportunities!
2Game Options
Next Coach Figger will go over the nuts and bolts and each player's responsibilities and positioning. He demonstrates the proper setup to reach the correct spots and spacing for the offense. Coach Figger shows the post players how to use the ball to gain an advantage in paint regardless of how defense defends it.
The offense's goal is to create 2-man games within the offensive flow. If the ball isn't directly entered into the post Coach Figger shows how to maintain pressure on the defense with a 2-man game at the perimeter and screen at the elbow. The cutter can choose to curl, fade or reject the ball. Each option is described in detail, along with how each player reacts to it.
If everything is covered, Coach Figger shows you how to flow into an on ball screen to keep the attacking mentality going. The Pinch Post option can be a great way to keep the defense honest. Coach Figger then shows how to seamlessly flow into DHOs or ball screens straight out of the set. If 2-Game's cutter rejects the screen, Coach Figger will show how to maintain pressure by adding another option for post-up and a baseline stagger in order to create perimeter shots.
Ball Screens
Coach Figger loves to use ball screens in his offense. He shows how to keep things moving when there is a 2-Game breakdown. There are several options for running the ball screen: offensive rebounds, hitting the post again and back out, and any other breakdown in any of these actions.
Drills
Coach Figger demonstrates drills to help you develop your guards and posts in order to complete the 2-Game offense. He demonstrates to the posts his philosophy of getting under the defense and posting up in transition. He shows them how to manage two transition players and works on getting high-low looks. Drills can be used to remove guards from the elbow screening actions.
Players will learn how to get the ball in by putting everything together in a 4-on-4 drill. While everyone goes through the basics of offense, the post player starts with an offensive advantage.
Sets and Games
Coach Figger wraps it all by describing a drill that he uses to learn how to play fast in the "150" game. Players will be taught how to move the ball quickly and make quick decisions.
Coach Figger then demonstrates two ball screen plays, which can be used in the offense or as stand-alone plays. He also shows you how to seamlessly transition into 2-Game, regardless of whether the ball is passed ahead or dribbled. The whiteboard diagram of one his favorite zones sets is then completed.
Do you want to control the pace and get the ball inside? This offense is great for that, and Coach Matt Figger will give you all the tools necessary to run the Modern 2-Game Offense.

Greg Kampe
(Rental)-Modernized Pack Line Defense & The 2-3 Zone
$9.00
$17.99
Open Practice: Modernized Pack Line Defense and the 2-3 Zone
Many would not know that Oakland University’s Greg Kampe is the third-longest tenured head coach in Division I men’s basketball. With over 500 wins, Kampe has earned the respect of his peers and he is well-known for his up-tempo style of play. It is that style that has helped form his philosophy of defense, which is what he presents in this video. He shows you how he has molded the modern Pack Line defense with a the 2-3 zone to create an ideal defense built for success.
Building the Pack Line with Breakdown Drills
Coach Kampe teaches the Pack Line using variations of the Shell Drill. Players learn proper positioning so that the on-ball defender is always supported by help defenders. Players are also taught how to chase shooters off down screens and how to defend screen aways or cross screens. Coach Kampe uses these three shell drill variations.
4-on-4 Must Dribble Drill: Defenders must pressure the ball, force the ball to the middle and provide help as the defense is continuously bombarded by dribble penetration.
4-on-3 Drill: Defenders learn to communicate as they sprint to fill gaps against an offense that has a man advantage.
3-on-3 8-Pass Restriction Drill: The offense can run any action at the defense but can only pass eight times. Defenders learn how to position properly, communicate with one another, and fight through screens.
Post Defense
Oakland’s help defense is based upon the shooting ability of the players on the floor. Coach Kampe demonstrates two drills to work on defending the post. The 4-on-4 Post Touch Drill focuses on denying the entry pass to the post while perimeter players help based on shooting ability. The 4-on-4 Close Out Drill is an Oakland staple and is the perfect way to prepare for the most common plays an opponent will run at your defense.
2-3 Zone Defense
Coach Kampe teaches the responsibilities for each player in the 2-3 zone. Players are to be active and apply ball pressure at all times in Kampe’s version of the 2-3. You will see how his players are taught to “bump” defenders when the ball is on the side. He also reviews different ways to defend the high post.
O-D-O Scrimmage
This full-court drill is done at game speed so that players get used to making quick decisions based on a shot attempt. You will see how Oakland’s defense flows from the 2-2-1 press to the 2-3 zone based on a shot attempt. This drill, as well as the rest of the video, gives you exactly what you need to combine the Pack Line defense with the 2-3 zone.

Jeff Jones
(Rental)-Morphing 1-3-1 to 3-2 Zone Defense

Morphing 1-3-1 Zone Defense to 3-2 Zone Defense
Old Dominion University head coach Jeff Jones used his “13” defense to help his Monarchs win the 2019 Conference USA regular season and conference tournament championships. What has really worked for ODU is the morphing of the 1-3-1 into a 3-2 that keeps offenses off balance. In this video, Coach Jones details exactly how he implements the 1-3-1 to 3-2 defense.
13 Defense
Jones starts by setting up the personnel for the 1-3-1 defense and then gets right into the details. As soon as the ball crosses the half-court line, the point player must not allow any direct line passes. The middle player must prevent any dribble penetration and the wings play defense outside-in. The idea is to allow no direct passes at all and prevent any reversals. The man underneath gets to the ball-side block when the ball crosses half-court and the opposite wing looks to prevent any diagonal lob passes.
Morphing into the 3-2 Zone
Coach Jones’ 13 Defense morphs into the 3-2 when the ball goes to the corner. Jones explains the positioning of each player and their responsibility once this happens. The defense looks as though it is a 2-3, but it really a 3-2.
Coach Jones also reviews how to defend the pick and roll against the zone, as well as what to do when the ball gets into the high post. You will also see adjustments such as what to do when a big man lacks mobility and what to do when a wing dribble into the corner.
Breakdown Drills for the 3-2 Zone
To teach the 3-2 zone defense, Jones uses drills to break down the top three players and the bottom two. One drill for the bottom two involves using four offensive players along the baseline, one in each corner and one in each short corner. The two bottom defenders learn to move as the ball moves.
For the top three players, Coach Jones uses a drill that puts an offensive player in the high post, and one in each corner. Defenders learn to move on the pass and cover their area of responsibility. How to defend the pick and roll is also discussed here.
The idea of changing from a 1-3-1 Zone Defense into a 3-2 is one that not many teams do on a consistent basis. If you are searching for something different, a unique look to slow down offenses, Coach Jones’ 13 Defense is one to consider. Rent this 1-3-1 zone defense DVD today.

Mark Few

Mark Few: Motion and Quick Hitter Offenses Against a Man or Zone Defense
Instead of installing a huge number of set plays do what Gonzaga head coach Mark Few does – use a basic continuity set that can be used against man or zone to generate ball and player movement and produce scoring opportunities. That is exactly what Coach Few presents in this video. The 2017 AP and Naismith Coach of the Year, Few has guided Gonzaga to 19 straight trips to the NCAA tournament. With over 500 wins to his credit, Few will demonstrate his Bulldog and Loop sets as well as how to deal with different defensive tactics. He also shares some breakdown drills for teaching the rules and reads for ball screens used in these sets.
Bulldog Action
There are times when it is difficult to determine whether a defense is in man or zone. Bulldog helps you identify what an opponent is up to all the while attacking the defense with a side ball screen continuity that generates a lot of movement.
Coach Few shows three additional sets you can use within Bulldog Action. These can be used to isolate certain players and give them different scoring options. Bulldog Shooter features extra stagger and single-double screens to free up players as the side ball screen occurs. Bulldog Action can help you locate a defense’s weakness and take advantage of it in a number of ways.
Loop Action
Loop is another set play that can be run against man or zone. Defenders are run through multiple screens before being hit with the middle pick and roll. Loop is a great complement to Bulldog and Coach Few shows you a couple of tweaks to make it even more effective. He will show you how to get your best shooters more shots and how to make your non-shooters more effective. Loop Action is also effective when used in transition as you will see.
Bulldog & Loop Actions vs Zone Defense
Coach Few demonstrates Bulldog and Loop against the 2-3 and 1-3-1 zone defenses. He points out how defenses will react and how you can make adjustments to beat them. You will see how to use more post screens against the 1-3-1, which limits the effectiveness of ball screens. One of the biggest takeaways is how Few’s teams use the same actions against both man and zone defenses.
Breakdown Drills
Coach Few presents three different 3-on-3 drills that he uses on a daily basis to teach his players how to read defenses and prepare for upcoming opponents. You will see how he tweaks these drills based upon a certain opponent’s scouting report.
Q&A Session
As an added bonus, there is a question and answer session in this video where Coach Few invites the audience to ask him questions about his offense and the Gonzaga program. This video is packed full with quality information from one of the game’s best coaches.

Bob Hurley: Motion and Zone Offenses
Learn how to break down any zone defense and maximize your motion offense in this on-court clinic presentation from one of high school basketball’s all-time greats – Bob Hurley. Coach Hurley spent four decades at St. Anthony’s HS (NJ) where he won 27 state championships, three USA Today national championships, and two USA Today National Coach of the Year awards. With over 1,000 career victories, Coach Hurley is one of the few high school coaches to have been inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
Coach Hurley’s video presents details about his highly successful Zone and Motion Offenses. Hurley shares his philosophies of both and also provides you with how he runs them from multiple sets and the various quick hitters he uses.
Zone Offense Philosophy
Coach Hurley explains why it is important to dribble more against a zone defense than man-to-man. One of the reasons is that it helps force an opponent to guard you from sideline to sideline and stretch the defense. Hurley also likes to attack zone defenses from behind. He shows you how to do so and give your team easy layups.
Defeating any Zone Defense
Coach Hurley details for you five different sets that can be used to attack any zone defense from a 2-3 to a 1-3-1 and even a matchup zone. You will see how to attack the weak side of a zone defense creating a 2-on-1 advantage with a ball reversal. The concept works against any zone.
Motion Offense Philosophy
There are 10 concepts that make Hurley’s Motion Offense so successful. He shares each of them with you, including 1) fitting motion to your team, 2) using tempo to control the game, and 3) moving with a purpose while reading teammates. Learn audibles and numbered cuts that can be used to keep the offense free-flowing.
Coach Hurley shares the 11-Pass Drill and the Overplay Drill, which he uses to build the Motion Offense. You can do the same. Both drills are based upon the offense making clean passes and using screens to get open. No dribbling is allowed in either drill.
You also get an inbounds play that is so good Hurley has run it for 35 years! Everything you learn in this video is what helped guide Hurley to over 1,000 wins. Add it to your collection and add a wrinkle or two to your Zone and Motion offenses.

Matt Lewis
(Rental)-Motion Offense Concepts for Any Offensive System
$9.50
$18.99
Motion Offense Concepts That Can Be Applied to Any Offensive System
Matt Lewis won the 2019 NCAA Division III national championship as the head coach at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. His team won the 2019 WIAC regular season and, as a result, Lewis was awarded the NABC Division III Coach of the Year, 2019 D3hoops.com Coach of the Year, and the 2019 DIII News Coach of the Year awards.
Coach Lewis’s career winning percentage of .906 heading into the 2019-20 season was the best among all active NCAA coaches. One of the things that make Lewis’s teams so good is their ability to run the motion offense. In this video, Coach Lewis covers footwork, passing, movement, and finishing in a coaching clinic setting. The drills and motion concepts he presents can help your team score more efficiently.
Stride Stop
The presentation starts with a drill that practices the stride stop, which puts players in position to either finish or quickly kick the ball out to the perimeter. Using a traditional jump stop requires an extra step which means more time. The stride stop puts a player in position to score or pass immediately which doesn’t give the defense much time to react and rotate.
Attacking
Players need to learn how to attack the basket and read the defense in a motion offense. Coach Lewis introduces a number of drills that incorporate attacking the basket, cutting to the basket, moving without the ball, and getting deep dribble penetration. When players attack, it forces defenses into help position which opens up a number of scoring opportunities.
Roles/Menus
Another important part of the motion offense is how to handle transition. Coach Lewis designates players as a “crash” or a “get back” player. Crash players, of course, have a responsibility to hunt for offensive rebounds. Get back players prevent a run-out in transition.
Coach Lewis offers a ton of information for coaches looking to install a motion offense from scratch. Footwork, understanding cuts, and moving without the basketball – all basic skills – are covered in this outstanding presentation.

Greg Lansing
(Rental)-Motion Offense Skills & Drills
$9.00
$17.99
Motion Offense - Individual and Team Skills & Drills
Greg Lansing took over the Indiana State program prior to the 2010-11 season and promptly guided the Sycamores to the 2011 NCAA tournament. Indiana State won the Missouri Valley Conference tournament that year and much of the program’s success is due to the showcase of drills Lansing uses to train his players on offense and defense.
In this video, Coach Lansing demonstrates 14 drills that players can use to increase their skill level. You will see everything from basic two-ball dribbling drills to a half-court attack the rim drill. In addition, players learn the fundamentals of defense starting with learning to stay low in a basketball stance with the head and hands up.
Defensive Drills
After a series of buildup drills, Coach Lansing demonstrates three awesome transition defense drills that help increase a player’s awareness in the open court. You will also see full-court drills in which advantage and disadvantage situations are created. These help players communicate effectively and consistently to protect against easy baskets.
Coach Lansing then gets into nine different drills designed to improve individual and team defensive skills. Players work on close outs, help side defense, on-ball defense, and more. Learning the finer points of defensive play can help a team get better at limiting opponents’ scoring production.
Offensive Drills
After the defensive drills, Coach Lansing turns his attention to his motion offense. You’ll see a set of drills that work the different aspects of the offense. Coach Lansing’s version of Motion does use screens but it also relies on the options available with all the cuts that are used.
Five cuts/actions within the 4-Out/1-In motion offense force defenses to continually chase offensive players. The dribble drive is also incorporated into the offense. Lansing’s version of the motion offense is great against pressure defenses and keeps opponents guessing. The drills are designed to help players pick up on defensive reads and develop their basketball IQ.
Coach Lansing provides solid instruction on how to perform each drill as well as points of emphasis for each. This presentation is a must-have for coaches looking to develop highly skilled and intelligent basketball players. Rent this motion offense DVD today.
