Nathan Davis’ Basketball Offensive System
Bucknell University head coach Nathan Davis has had plenty of success running a high-octane offense that also allows his teams to run the clock if easy shots are not possible. Davis won four straight Patriot League regular season titles from 2016 to 2019, won two league tournaments (2017 & ’18), and has taken home two Patriot League Coach of the Year awards (’16, ’17). See exactly how he runs the floor and flows right into a motion offense with multiple actions, ball screens, and lots of scoring opportunities.
Transition to Motion
Coach Davis philosophy is to get the ball out quickly on a make or a miss and score within the first six seconds of the shot clock. If that is not possible, the Nathan Davis’ Basketball Offensive System is designed to score in the final six seconds of the shot clock.
You will see how Davis likes to run the floor and create scoring opportunities with dribble penetration, kick-outs, pitch-backs, or screens. Coach Davis also likes the low post player to stay opposite the ball to create space and, ultimately, get catches with two feet in the paint.
5-Man Motion
In the 5-Man motion offense, Coach Davis has the post players work together. One plays on the perimeter and one in the post. The first action you see is a post player exchange with one screening for the other. The action also creates an opportunity for a drive from the ball-side corner.
A second action is the post player setting a screen for a guard when the ball is passed. The guard reads the defense looking to curl for a layup, use a back cut for a layup, or pop out for an open 3-pointer. The weak-side flare screen is also a way to get the ball into the hands of a good shooter.
Ball Screens
In addition to running in transition and using the 5-man motion offense, Coach Davis is a big fan of ball screens. He teaches his screeners to sprint to the screen to achieve the element of surprise. Using actions like Triple and Jazz, Coach Davis create opportunities for two- and three-player actions. Warrior is a ball screen action that incorporates a back cut by one guard and a pass-and-follow ball screen.
Coach Davis teaches you his up-tempo offense and how to use it to create opportunities for quick scores and how to use the offense to use the clock to get open looks and dictate the pace of games. This is an outstanding look at a complete offense. Rent Nathan Davis’ Basketball Offensive System DVD today.

Open Practice with T.J. Otzelberger: Defense
One of the up-and-coming coaches in college basketball, South Dakota State mentor T.J. Otzelberger teaches his defensive system in this open practice video. Coach Otzelberger’s defense is all about forcing opponents into less than desirable shots and then tenacious rebounding in an effort to get the ball into transition quickly. One look at this video and you will understand why Otzelberger’s teams are consistently ranked in the nation’s top 10 in defensive rebounding.
Stance, Slides, and Closeouts
Coach Otzelberger preaches the basics: stance, slide, and closing out. You will see the low, wide, and active stance that Otzelberger teaches his players. Active hands allow players to take away passing lanes and deflect passes. High hands on a closeout force opponents to take tough shots. Understanding the basics can help any defensive style disrupt any offensive action.
Ball Screen Defense
As more teams move to a ball screen offense, successful teams are those that have lock-down ball screen defenses. You must have different ways to defend the ball screen and ways to take away an effective ball handler. Coach Otzelberger will show you his side ball screen defense where he teaches players to have a wide, open stance with the chest up to take on the driver coming off of a ball screen.
Alley Drill
Coach Otzelberger demonstrates the Alley Drill which is one that will push your players to their limits. It’s a competitive drill in which each team sends athletes through the “alley.” Defenders have to work to keep their opponent in front of them in the lane line alley. The idea is to use good angles to cut off offensive players forcing them to turn.
The three-hour-plus video gives you an inside look at the entire defensive philosophy of one of college basketball’s brightest young minds. Coach Otzelberger takes you through his defense from the ground up showing you how to constantly pressure the ball. This is a great video for coaches looking to add to their defensive arsenal.

Using a variety of transition drills, Coach Otzelberger outlines how he creates a culture of up-tempo basketball.
Skill Development
Coach Otzelberger breaks up players into two different groups to show you how he develops individual skills Players in each group learn to create driving angles into a single gap or double gap setting. Posts learn to rotate as a guard drives toward the basket. Guards learn to recognize and attack gaps as the ball moves around the court. In a second drill, you will see how Coach Otzelberger creates pride in the Jackrabbits defense.
Half Court Play
When the transition game doesn’t produce a scoring opportunity, the offense must flow right into its half-court game. In this segment of the video, Coach Otzelberger reveals the various actions that he likes to open up the floor to create driving angles or create downhill action as quickly as possible. You will see the 6-Man Possession game where players race up and down the floor in transition utilizing dribble hand-offs, step up screens, and flip actions to generate scoring opportunities.
This open practice video is full of outstanding coaching points that can be put to use in your program. Muffet McGraw: Notre Dame’s 2-3 Zone Defense
The 2018 NCAA women’s national champions won the title for a number of reasons, but one big one was defense. In this video, Notre Dame women’s head coach Muffet McGraw shares with you her defensive philosophy as well as some of the secrets from her defensive playbook that helped the Fighting Irish capture last year’s national championship.
McGraw was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011 and is a three-time winner of the Naismith College Coach of the Year award. Her Notre Dame teams continually go deep in the women’s national tournament year after year and much of the Fighting Irish’s success can be attributed to McGraw’s defense.
2-3 Zone Defense Philosophy
McGraw prefers the ability to play both man and zone defense. Her system at Notre Dame incorporates the use of both. She prefers the 2-3 zone defense to any other and shares her reasons why in the video. Using whiteboard diagrams and some breakdown drills, McGraw details the responsibilities for each player in the 2-3 zone. You will also see how players are supposed to rotate in a number of different situations.
McGraw takes you through six defensive drills that work on various scenarios that arise in games. One drill covers bumping to prevent a quick shot from the wing. Another works on preventing lob passes and covering skip passes on the weak side. Coach McGraw also shows you two methods for defending the high post on an entry pass as well as ways to trap the low post and short corner.
2-3 Zone Defense Practice Drills
McGraw has four essential drills that are part of her daily practices. Each drill can be modified with progressive variations throughout the season. These drills help players focus on the ability to close out on the ball to prevent dribble penetration to the middle of the floor.
The Open Driver Drill is an important one as it teaches players how to rotate to help their teammates on dribble penetration. McGraw also shows you how Notre Dame defends passing lanes with their denial defense. You will also see the “Jump to the Ball” Drill which teaches players to position themselves in their team defense.

Craig Doty: Offensive Success vs a Switching Man-to-Man Defense
Teams playing against an unfamiliar defense often run into trouble. For coaches who go up against a switching man-to-man, this change-up can cause some serious headaches. Craig Doty, head coach at 2018 NAIA Division I national champion Graceland University (IA), shows you how you can gain an advantage against this type of switching man-to-man defense.
Doty, the 2018 NAIA Division National Coach of the Year, also won two NJCAA Division III championships and was a two-time National Junior College Coach of the Year. In this video, he shares with you a number of useful plays that work not only against switching man-to-man defenses, but also straight up man and zone defenses. He explains each play giving you the exact spacing and timing needed. Coach Doty also explains how to take advantage of certain mismatches as they occur and also how to use analytics to improve in practices and games.
Regular Man-to-Man vs. Switching Man-to-Man
To take advantage of man defenses that switch, Coach Doty first demonstrates a variety of plays against a straight man-to-man. Then, he shows you the same plays against a switching man-to-man. From a Horns set, “Pro 1” begins with a pass into the post and a dive to the basket by the point guard. Instead of an open jumper or a feed into the post against straight man, the switching man defense generates a seal by the post for a high-low duck-in pass.
“Pro 3” is another play run from the Horns set used to set up a help-side down screen on an entry to the elbow. Against a switching man defense, the high-low entry to the screening post player result’s in an interior mismatch that leads to easy baskets.
Utilizing Early Offense
Switching man-to-man defenses can cause problems in transition. Coach Doty uses post and wing interchanges and dribble handoffs to create mismatches and exploit the switches. “Harvard” and “Cross” are actions by wings that can lead to easy baskets.
Sets vs. 2-3 Zone
Switch principles can still apply in a 2-3 zone. You will see how down screens and flare screens are used to create open 3-point shots. “Bulldog” leads to open opportunities to the get the ball inside to a post player. “Flood” is another play designed to take advantage of the zone defense.
Using Analytics
Coach Doty takes some time to cover how his team uses analytics. The numbers can often tell you who should be on the floor and who should not. You can also use them to explain to players why they are successful or unsuccessful.
All the plays and actions shown in Coach Doty’s video are used to create opportunities for offenses to attack defenses that switch. What he reveals is a must for anyone looking to expand their playbook and handle uncommon defenses.

(Rental)-Origins Of The Pack Line Defense With Drills
$17.99
Origins of the Pack Line Defense with Breakdown Drills
The Pack Line defense helped propel Virginia to a national title in 2019. The origins of the system came from Virginia head coach Tony Bennett’s father, Dick, a 28-year NCAA coaching veteran. The elder Bennett is best remembered for his time at Wisconsin where he led the Badgers to the 2000 Final Four.
In this video, Bennett shows you how to implement the Pack Line defense, a man-to-man defense that is designed to prevent dribble penetration and contest open 3-point shots. It is a system that allows less athletic teams consistently compete with superior offensive teams.
Why the Pack Line Defense?
Bennett begins with some insight behind his creation of the system and the keys to its success. Bennett identifies several points for those looking to improve their teams on the defensive end. These points include:
Four things Bennett demands from his defense
How to implement game changers
Why the defense is so difficult for great offensive players to crack
Why Bennett moved from push-to-baseline to the Pack Line concept
How the Pack Line limits scoring opportunities against great teams
Characteristics of great defenders
Push to Pack
To play the Pack Line defense, you must have an on-ball defender that pressures the ball and disrupts the ball-handler to get him out of his comfort zone. The on-ball defender must trust his teammates for help. Help defense is key to the Pack Line but different than traditional defenses. Help defenders are often closer to the basket and must straddle the seam in order to be able to close out on a shooter.
Defending Screens
Bennett demonstrates how his players defend screens. His strategy is somewhat unique and his players must hedge, or double, the ball handler. Coach Bennett also teaches a technique where the screener gets smothered if the ball handler is not a great shooter or a threat to score.
Transition Defense
Coach Bennett also teaches “back to attack,” which is a focus on transition defense. You will learn two full-court transition drills that address getting back on defense and preventing easy baskets. Players learn to communicate and stop teams in transition.
This presentation is from one of the great defensive minds of all-time. Learn the suffocating Pack Line defense from the man who created it!

Learn to attack man-to-man defenses from one of the best, USC head coach Andy Enfield, in this collection of offensive strategy. Coach Enfield used his up-tempo style of play to take 15th-seeded Florida Gulf Coast to the Sweet Sixteen of the 2013 NCAA men’s basketball tournament. In this presentation, you will see and learn some of the most effective ball screen strategies and misdirection that you can incorporate into your offense.
Coach Enfield lays out his own playbook for you showing you some of his most effective set plays as well as the continuity ball screen offense that puts tremendous stress on opposing defenses. Enfield also shares the success rates of his plays to emphasize that you shouldn’t keep plays in the playbook that don’t work.
How to Position Players in Man to fMan Offense
One of the key strategies employed by Enfield is to take advantage of what each individual player does best. With that in mind, Coach Enfield will show you how to position your players on the floor to give them the best chance at being successful. He will also show you how to position players that may be less skilled than others. Many coaches do not address how to position players, but Coach Enfield believes it is necessary if an offense wants to succeed.
Attacking Man to Man Offense
You will most certainly find something in Coach Enfield’s presentation that you can take and use in your offense. You will see how Enfield attacks multiple areas of the floor in an effort to get high percentage shots. Coach will share with you an offensive system that utilizes motion and screens and can be used against man or zone defense.
One thing that makes Enfield’s offense so effective is the ability to mask what an offense is doing. Enfield will share with you how he runs multiple plays but out of the same offensive set. The results are one of Division I’s highest scoring teams year-in and year-out.
Most every offensive set that you can imagine is reviewed in this 73-minute video. Coach Enfield does a masterful job at showing coaches how to put the basketball in the hands of their best player or players. Offensive Skill Development and Attacking Man & Zone Defenses
In his first year as the head coach at Iowa State, Steve Prohm took the Cyclones to the Sweet Sixteen. One of the big reasons with an offensive system that was a national leader in points per game (15th), offensive efficiency (3rd), field goal percentage (2nd), and assists (7th). In this offensive skill development video, Coach Prohm shares with you a number of concepts related to his offensive system as well as 11 skill development drills that are the core of his program. You will also see nine plays that you can run against half-court man-to-man defenses, and learn five ways that Prohm likes to attack zone defenses.
Individual Skill Drills
Like any successful offensive system, you have to develop players into offensive weapons. They must have the ability to shoot, dribble, and pass. Coach Prohm works on all these individual skills using 11 different drills. The drills focus on shooting ability and ball handling and you can pick and choose from the drills the ones to use on a daily basis. This way, your players don’t get bored doing the same drills every day. The drills are great for warmup during the season or for player development in the offseason.
Four-Man Extra Pass: Players work on finding open shooters off quick ball reversals, baseline drift passes, or extra passes.
Kentucky Ball Handling: Practice attacking the basket using dribble moves to get by defenders and then use four different finishes at the rim.
Starts, Stops, and Turns: Improves pivoting and passing and helps players learn to create space when under pressure.
Man-to-Man Offense
Coach Prohm’s offense is one that excels at playing with space. It is perfect for teams with talented point guards. Using “Mason” action, Prohm shows you how to create isolations with your point guard. The isolations can also be for a talented post player. Prohm demonstrates plays designed to isolate post players too. Mason Rip is a play that can get your best shooter in position for an open 3-pointer when you absolutely have to have one.
Iowa State uses 32 Action to space the floor and optimize dribble penetration and post feeds. Prohm shows you two plays from 32 Action and then shows you more from Hook Action. Players flatten along the baseline to create space for step-up ball screens. You also get a baseline inbound play that Coach Prohm likes to use in freeing up his best shooter.
Zone Offense
Coach Prohm shows you five plays to use in your zone offense. The five plays utilize misdirection, screens, and spacing to distort the zone and create gaps to attack the paint. Two plays help you attack a zone with your secondary break and get the ball inside to the high post.
If you are looking to step up your man and zone offenses, Coach Prohm’s system has had much success in the Big 12. He also provides you with the drills to develop your players’ skills. Rent this offensive skill development DVD today.

Players get their bodies ready for practice while also developing the fundamental skills needed for offensive execution.
Closeout Drills
Five different drills are demonstrated by Coach Prohm that develop the fundamental defensive skill of closing out to the ball. Drills include:
Full Court Closeouts: Players use the whole court to work on breaking down the to the ball and exploding with their defensive slides.
Triangle Slides: Players learn to use closeouts in other defensive movements like sprinting to help or cutting off dribble penetration.
Partner Closeout: Players develop their on-ball pressure skills in an effort to become more disruptive defenders.
Half-Court Defensive Drills
Prohm begins the teaching of the Cyclones’ man-to-man defense by using nine different drills. The drills teach concepts like helping in the post, denying passes, preventing dribble penetration, and fighting through screens. These drills are great because they teach multiple defensive concepts at the same time.
The 1-on-0 Dig the Post Drill teaches players to closeout, pressure the passer, dig on the post, stunt at dribble penetration, and contain the dribble with defensive slides. The 3-on-3 Positioning Drill trains players to jump to the ball, stunt and recover, deny cutters, and help and recover on baseline drives.
Two more drills challenge players to scramble through 4-on-3 disadvantage situations. Coach Prohm likes these drills because they force players to communicate and teach priorities like protecting the ball and defending the rim.
Transition Defense Drills
Teams simply cannot give up easy baskets if they want to be successful. You will see the Cyclones work three drills that teach multiple phases of defending in transition. Rebounding Drills
Coach Giacoletti wants his players to develop a physical mindset and he does so with three rebounding drills.
3-on-0 Rebounding: Players go through multiple repetitions working on refining their offensive and defensive rebounding technique.
3-on-3 Rebounding: The skills learned in the first drill are put to use in competitive play while also including closeouts, help positioning, and cutting off baseline penetration.
Five-Man Box Out: This is a more complex drill that emphasizes transition concepts like getting back on defense and trying to score on fast breaks when there is an advantage.
Coach Giacoletti puts all of his defensive and rebounding concepts together in the ultimate test – the Turkey Game. The game is highly competitive and is a great way to get players to understand the importance of every possession. Players fight to get a defensive stop and rebound and earn a “Turkey.”

A former player under Bobby Knight at Indiana, Crews won the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year award in back-to-back seasons in 2013 and 2014. In this presentation, you will see how Crews built his program around fundamental skill development and the concepts of educating, encouraging, and empowering student-athletes.
The basketball practice session begins with focus on fundamentals, which Coach Crews believes are essential to having a successful program. Here, he focuses on defensive fundamentals emphasizing proper stance and positioning as well as having high hands. His 3-on-4 drill forces players to use these defensive fundamentals.
Coach Crews moves to an offensive drill that teaches a number of different concepts. The 4-on-3 Whitesell Drill teaches entry passes, post ups, escape dribbles, and how to inbound effectively. Players learn to focus through the entire drill working on each skill.
In addition to all of the drills, Coach Crews also takes time to talk briefly about how he puts together practice sessions. He likes to focus on the weaknesses from the previous practice first and then move into a more normal routine. He explains why he does this and it is quite insightful.
Basketball Practice Fundamental Drills
You will see more fundamental drills later in the video. Coach Crews truly believes that fundamentals are the invisible force that moves a team in the right direction. You see a number of shooting drills that underscore Coach Crews’ point. Post players work on jump hooks and other post moves while perimeter players work on ball handling and shots off of ball screens.
The final segments of the video feature Coach Crews running his players through the team’s offense against a 3-2 zone. You get a great view of how fundamental skills and basic concepts are put together as part of an offensive strategy. Coach Crews continually holds his players accountable and forces them to do the little things correctly. Doing so has helped Crews’ teams have great success over the years.

Open Practice with Jim Larranaga: Ball Screen Offense
Looking for ways to use the ball screen effectively? Look no further than University of Miami head coach Jim Larranaga’s playbook. In this video, Coach Larranaga, who was the 2013 AP College Basketball Coach of the Year, offers you a look inside how he uses ball screens in his offense. While most coaches understand the simple ball screen, the use of multiple ball screens is difficult for defenses to stop. Coach Larranaga shows you how in this video using whiteboard diagrams and on-court demonstrations.
It all starts with screening action in transition and in the secondary break. With each screening action, you will see three opportunities to score: the point guard on a drive to the rim, a 3-pointer from the perimeter, or an open post player. Coach Larranaga explains each screen, each cut, and each setup.
Coach Larranaga then moves into the half-court offense and emphasizes using space. You will see how to create space in the post using a ball screen and isolate your best wing and post players on one side creating a two-man scoring threat. The half-court offense continues with the double ball screen, flat ball screen, and a look at the popular “Horns” set used by several NBA teams. Coach Larranaga walks you through each option and how to counter when a defense takes away the first option.
Using on-court demonstrations, Coach Larranaga teaches the basic installation of his ball screen offense. He will show you 13 different set plays using ball screen actions, the same ones he reviewed in the whiteboard presentation. Coach draws up both 5-on-0 and 5-on-5 situations so you and your players can visualize reading and reacting off of a screen. Larranaga even throws in a bonus, the “Zipper” action that is popular in the NBA today. He shows you how to incorporate it into your offense.
The ball screen offense, when used properly, will confuse opponents especially when screens are used from different angles all over the court. Coach Larranaga is one of the best when it comes to the ball screen. Learn it from one of the game’s masters in this 71-minute video.

Develop offensive skills and learn how to use competition in practice to keep your players focused and engaged in this video from Towson University head coach Pat Skerry. Coach Skerry took over the Towson program in 2012 and engineered the biggest single-season turnaround in NCAA Division I men’s basketball history.
In this basketball practice video, Coach Skerry shows you how he completed the turnaround. This all-access look at a Towson practice allows you to see how Coach Skerry teaches the fundamental skills and the drill he uses to do so. You also see many of his offensive and defensive sets.
The basketball practice begins with fundamental skill development and position-specific drills. Players work on ball handling and passing early in practice giving players a chance to work on those skills while getting loose. From there, players split by position. Post players work on sweeps that lead to attacking the rim. They also work on catching the ball as they trail and finishing.
Basketball Practice Drills for Guards
Guards work on penetrating the lane, making accurate passes, and pivoting. Guards also work on attacking the hedge off the ball screen. This is an extremely important skill especially in a ball screen offense.
The next phase of practice finds players working on defensive breakdown drills The Wall Drill teaches big men to play solid post defense without committing fouls. Guards run a 2-on-2 drill with an emphasis on dealing with cross and down screens and working the gaps in the defense.
Next, Coach Skerry runs his players through the multiple offensive sets. You get a great look at Skerry’s Shuffle Offense which features back screens and ball screens. These different actions prevent defenses from anticipating and disrupting the offense. The Option Offense teaches players to curl off of screens to get open shots. Coach Skerry then runs his team through a segment in transition. The Scrabble Drill has one team of three on defense going up against four players on offense. Players must play good position defense and scramble to the ball. When the possession changes, the defense transitions to offense and gains two players. These overloaded drills emphasize defensive help concepts. The Cycle Drill is also introduced here. The offense runs through a set zone offense in a 5-on-0 situation then transitions to two possessions against a live defense.
The practice ends with the 6 Possessions and 6 Points competition. The offense gets six possessions to score six points. The drill emphasizes being efficient on each possession and adds an element of competition. Coach Skerry gives you a number of very useful drills in this 100-minute video.
