A defense that is good at defending your opponent's interests and takes it away is called "good defense." Coach Auriemma shows you the four cornerstones for half court defense. These areas include defending the baseline drive and guarding and trapping post, closing out the shooter, and protecting the pick and roll. Two key components of the half court are ball pressure on the point guard, and wing denizen. Defensive players can use the three-point line as a guide to help push the offense past the line. For good offensive players, it is necessary to double the line on the pass. Auriemma instructs his defenders how to react to the pass, trapping the post aggressively. To demonstrate the importance of proper close-outs on the ball, a 2-on-2 drill is shown. There are many different ways to pick and roll. You need to consider the abilities of both your opponent and your players when designing a defensive strategy.
