Jim Larranaga
(Rental)-Shooting Drills to Improve Accuracy & Make Shots Under Pressure
$18.99
In this video, Coach Jim Larranaga provides a comprehensive guide to improving the shooting skills of every player on your team. The video is designed to help coaches develop specific goals and habits to challenge and focus their players, and transfer practice improvements to game results.
Coach Larranaga starts by discussing the importance of developing habits when working on a player's shot, such as footwork, balance, follow through, and focus. He then proceeds to demonstrate a series of drills that work all phases of shooting, including making players better from key 3-point spots and off the dribble.
He starts with a drill called "Six in a Row" which is a simple but challenging drill that forces players to execute proper footwork while going back and forth trying to hit six shots in a row from game spots. This drill is not only a great warm-up but also a challenging drill that will help poor shooters realize they need to put in more work. He also passes on nine other great shooting drills that challenge players while giving them a great workout.
Another great aspect of Coach Larranaga's shooting workouts is how he consistently has players compete against themselves or their teammates. This competition is important to prepare players to hit big shots in big moments. In one drill, Coach Larranaga adds a defender against two shooters to force players to make good decisions while preparing to shoot. This helps players to practice shooting under pressure, which is a key skill for clutch situations in games.
This video is an excellent resource for coaches who want to improve the shooting skills of their players. Coach Larranaga provides clear and detailed instructions on how to develop specific goals and habits to challenge and focus your players, and transfer practice improvements to game results.

A zone defense that works is difficult to plan and hard to beat!
Learn how to switch from a 1-3-1 defense to a manto-man defence in one possession
You can change the position of your team's centre so that they can play under the basket or in the middle.
It is important to understand the importance of protecting passing lanes in order disrupt the offense
Coach Will Jones gives his explanation of the 1-3-1 defense. Jones demonstrates how to transform your zone defense into an 2-3 zone and match up in man-toÐman. Jones also provides his calls to get your players ready for the defense they want.
Alignment and Process
In the video's opening, Coach Jones emphasizes the importance of leading players in the right direction. He explains that being process-oriented and not results-oriented will help you be a better coach in any aspect of basketball coaching.
Jones then discusses his use of the 1-3-1 defense. He also explains how alignment and the placement of personnel in the zone affect the defense's shape and principles. The defense can respond differently to different shapes. Sometimes, the shape can stay the same. He shows how to adjust the pick-up point when the ball is up on the court.

Sherri Coale
(Rental)-Sherri Coale: More of My Favorite Basketball Drills
$18.99
One of the all-time greats in women’s college basketball, former Oklahoma head coach Sherri Coale goes on the court for this presentation of more of her favorite drills. You’ll see what makes a good drill as well as something she calls Small Games. Coach Coale has used these drills over her two decades-plus career that produced 10 Big 12 titles, 19 straight trips to the NCAA tournament, and back-to-back Final Four appearances in 2009 and 2010.
Philosophy and Goals of Drills
Coales first goes through the keys for great drills. It all starts with focusing on something you want your players to get better at. Another key for a great drill is that it should be as game-like as possible. Finally, the drill has to be competitive. That might mean keeping score against an opponent or maybe it means competing against a clock. Regardless, competitive drills increase the buy-in and effort from your players.
Small Games
Coach Coales introduces Small Games, which are breakdown drills that make up three-quarters of Coale’s drill time in practices. These games start at 1-on-1 and progress to 4-on-4 and meet her criteria for effective drills.
You will see daily 1-on-1 drills to develop reads on offense and defense. There are 2-on-2 drills where the offense looks to score and drive off the catch. The 3-on-3 and 4-on-4 drills build on skills learned in 1-on-1 and 2-on-2 drills. All the Small Games drills give players game-like situations to work on.
Additional Drills
The next set of drills are those that help a team play at their best. Fast Drill is one that works on making quick outlet passes and sprinting the floor to attack a defense in transition.
3-Cone Shooting works on shooting, conditioning, and has an element of competition built in. Players shoot a free throw and when they miss they must run around a cone that corresponds to the number of shots missed.
Point and Holler is great defensive drill that is typically run at the beginning of a practice. Four defensive players turn their backs to the offense. The offense runs movements without the ball. On command, the defense turns around and immediately points to the player they are guarding.
This is a fantastic presentation from one of the best coaches in the history of women’s college basketball. There is something in this video for any coach at any level.
Andy Toole
(Rental)-Shooting & Transition Drills
$18.99
Robert Morris University head coach Andy Toole shows you how to emphasize shooting and transition in practice so you can play fast and score a ton of points on game night. Toole is a two-time NEC champion (2015, 2020) and a former NEC (2014) Coach of the Year. In this video, Toole takes you inside an RMU practice where there is heavy emphasis on skill development through competition. That competition has turned Robert Morris into a championship caliber program.
Warm Up
The practice begins with “Ohio State Layups,” a drill that is used to create energy and prepare for an up-tempo practice. Toole emphasizes that players’ feet are always moving as they make passes and that the passes lead their teammates. Never throw behind a player.
The practice then moves into “10 In A Row” where players drive to the basket and must convert 10 straight layups. This time, they drive against a chasing manager and two coaches with blocking pads. Both sides must make 10 in a row to complete the drill.
Defensive Drills
Toole’s practice isn’t just about offense. He gets into several defensive drills as well. They include:
Perfect Closeouts: variation of the Shell Drill where there is an emphasis on closing out
3-Minute Ball Screen: a post sets a ball screen to start the drill and continues to keep possession until stopped by the defense
Disadvantage Transition: teaches proper transition defense
Shooting Drills
Toole develops shooting skills with a series of drills designed to improve perimeter shooting. “4 Minute Threes” is a drill where players shoot from four different spots on the floor for four minutes. Shooting lines change each minute. Getting the hands ready is emphasized here.
“Dotted Shooting” helps players score off the drive and “CBS Shooting” is a three-man weave where the third player must score on a layup. Coach Toole finally puts everything together in a series of scrimmage drills like “Bucks” which trains matching up in transition defense and “Make It Take It” which teaches offense and defense in a half-court setting.
Any of Coach Toole’s drills can help the energy level and competitiveness of your practices.
Rob Krimmel
(Rental)-Situational Work & Game-Like Shooting Drills
$18.99
NABC On the Court Open Practice with Rob Krimmel: Situational Work & Game Like Shooting Drills
The St. Francis Red Flash are one of the highest scoring teams in the nation on a consistent basis. In this open practice video, St. Francis head coach Rob Krimmel shows you how he prepares and builds such a high-octane offense.
Pre-Practice & Warmups
The Red Flash start by reviewing plays such as Back Screen and Double Fist. Then, they run a series of warmups starting with dynamic stretching and full- and half-court defensive slides. Two five-man weave drills – the Sixer Drill is one – follow which run players through different 3-on-2, 2-on-1, and 1-on-1 situations for an interesting take on the traditional 5-man weave.
Transition Drills & End of Half
Early in practice players go through two transition offense drills. Bulldog Shooting teaches players to make decisions in transition at full speed. Running of the Bulls adds transition defense into the equation with a 5-on-4 situation with a trailer.
Coach Krimmel then moves to working on the end-of-half situation. It’s a four-minute segment that simulates the end of the first half. St. Francis plays out multiple scenarios and when finished the team splits into groups to shoot free throws.
Next comes a closeout drill where Krimmel has players play out different defensive scenarios and ball screen coverages. Then, there are more shooting drills like Motion Shooting which incorporates 3-on-0 actions to work on reads within plays.
5-on-0 Offense, Shots Against the Zone & Game Prep
Coach Krimmel works to perfect the offense with a 5-on-0 segment where the Red Flash work on three different plays and the many different reads Krimmel wants his players to master. The All One drill puts everything together against a defense. The team works on the motion offense in a live situation.
To finish practice, the Flash go through shooting drills that simulate shots against a zone defense. There are numerous situations that players are put through as the team works on every element of the offense from motion, to zone offense, and press breaks. The final segment of the practice works against a 2-2-1 press break and finishes with a full-court shooting drill.
This is an outstanding look at a well-organized practice. You’ll see how Coach Krimmel puts his players into situations they will face in games. You can do the same so your players are never caught off guard. Rent this video with game like shooting drills.
Brad Underwood
(Rental)-Skill Development, Zone Offense, & Transition
$18.99
NABC On the Court Open Practice with Brad Underwood: Skill Development, Zone Offense & Transition
University of Illinois head coach Brad Underwood opens the doors to one of his early season practices in this instructional video. A two-time Southland Conference Coach of the Year at Stephen F. Austin and the former head coach at Oklahoma State, Underwood shares a wealth of knowledge from individual skills to full team defense.
Warmup Skill Work
Practice starts with ball handling. Players partner up and work on a variety of moves and passes. Then, it’s on to working on different shots the players will encounter in the flow of the offense. Players work on post moves, pick and rolls, drive and kicks, finishes at the rim, high-low options, and 3-on-0 actions for posts and perimeter players.
Zone Offense
The next part of the practice is dedicated to zone offense. The Illini work on the passes needed to take down a zone defense. First is the Zone Passing drill then Underwood begins teaching the “10” offense. It is done first in a 5-on-0 scenario before moving to live action against a 2-3 and a 1-3-1.
As the practice continues, restrictions are put on the offense as to when they can shoot. Underwood shows the zone play “DePaul” which is a great way to enter the basic zone offense.
Rebounding, Transition, and Closeouts
Rebounding is of the utmost importance, so the team moves into a rebounding segment with an offensive emphasis. The skill is worked on in the Opposite and Inside drill which starts as a 3-on-3 and moves to a 4-on-4 with transition defense.
This then moves the practice right into the Transition Drill. This is a classic drill that puts the defense at a disadvantage. One player must turn and touch the baseline before he can sprint back and help on defense.
The final segment practices closeouts. Underwood uses two drills: 3-on-3 Closeouts and Baseline Closeouts. The Illini will go back to the Transition Drill and then end the practice with 100 free throws.
You will see an intense practice full of outstanding drills that Underwood uses to create a well-round, tough basketball team. Any opportunity to see a college practice is worth it and this one is a great example to follow.
