Continuity Offense vs Zone Defense & Quick Hitters
As zone defenses become more relevant at all levels of basketball, coaches need to have answers on offense. One of the big reasons more programs are running zone defenses is that coaches simply don’t have enough answers to beat them.
California women’s head basketball coach Lindsay Gottlieb took Cal to a Pac-12 conference championship and to the Final Four in 2013 by figuring out zone defenses. In this video, Coach Gottlieb offers you three unorthodox continuity offenses vs zone and five quick-hitters to create scoring opportunities in the paint versus a zone defense. Coach Gottlieb.
Continuity Offense vs Zone
Using on-court demonstration, Coach Gottlieb shows you Cal’s primary zone offense, “12.” This can be used against a 2-3 or 3-2 zone. This continuity offense vs zone uses a 1-4 flat alignment to overload the back of the zone and it picks on defenders with screens in an effort to create 2-on-1s. “12 Shooting” is an accompanying drill that Gottlieb uses to build confidence in passing and shooting in this continuity offense.
Gaps 4 is another continuity offense that spreads the floor and leaves the high post open. The offense is based on using basket cuts, ball reversals, and defensive reads to find advantageous situations. Teams that have bigger guards as well as a strong post player excel in the use of Gaps 4.
Gottlieb also shows you “13” which attacks the high post with perimeter players. Post players remain on the baseline in an attempt to open up the high post. The offense can create all sorts of opportunities to score with post-ups, high-low passes, and lobs.
Quick Hitters to Attack Zone Defenses
Gottlieb shares five of her favorite set plays for attacking the inside of zone defenses.
West: designed to force a defense to decide whether to cover best shooter or best post
Stack: attacks the rim by distorting the zone and opening up lobs and post flashes
Wave: similar to Stack
Flier: sets up best shooter for a 3-pointer and comes with a counter for an easy high post look
Lakers Away: creates an advantage situation with quick ball reversal off of a pick and roll
Secondary Break Against Zone Defense
One of the best ways to beat a zone defense is to beat it down the floor. In this segment, Coach Gottlieb reviews how her “Blitz” transition offense flows right into 12 or Gaps 4. These principles allow you to continue to attack a zone without giving it a chance to get organized.
From continuity offense to quick-hitters and transition offense, Coach Gottlieb has you covered. Her innovative strategies of offense can help catapult you to success against zone defenses. Rent this continuity offense vs zone defense DVD today.

4-Out 1-In Attack and React Offense: Attacking Drills & Skills
Andrew Grantz, current head boys’ basketball coach at Fort Myers HS (FL), is the creator of the Attack & React Offense, one that has taken the basketball world by storm. This video helps you discover how to incorporate skill development into the basic phases of the offense. Coach Grantz developed the system while serving as an assistant at Indiana University Southeast and as the head coach at Our Lady of Providence HS (IN). He will help you build your players’ confidence in a wide range of offensive skills all geared at attacking opposing defenses.
In the video, Coach Grantz will show you perimeter-based drills that focus on footwork, ball handling, shooting, and passing. Drills for post players include training their ability to finish high and strong at the rim. They will also work on the power dribble, the jump hook, and the up-and-under. In the end, Coach Grantz wants to help you develop players that have an attacking mentality by passing quicker, shooting with more confidence, and handling the ball against any defense.
5 Phases of the Attack and React Offense
There are five basic phases in the Attack and React Offense. Coach Grantz places all of the skill development into these five phases. He offers insight into each drill in an effort to help you and your players learn how to successfully run it. The five phases of the offense are:
Phase 1: Breakdown Drills. Develop the habits needed to run the offense effectively. These drills work on the 4-out actions but also reinforce the fundamentals covered earlier in the video.
Phase 2: Pass and cut. Players learn to read defenders and decide if they should use a backdoor cut.
Phase 3: Post Entry Drills. Features three versions of the Laker cut.
Phase 4: Baseline Drive (C Gap). Works on baseline penetration and a lob pass at the rim to the post player or drift to the opposite wing.
Phase 5: Backdoor. Teaches players to recognize opportunities to make backdoor cuts.
In 105 minutes, Coach Grantz does an excellent job of showing players how to play the game and be more effective as an offensive player. Players learn to read off of one another and they pass, cut, and look to create scoring opportunities. If you are looking to increase your team’s overall offensive efficiency, Coach Grantz’s video is a step in the right direction. Rent this Attack and React Offense Drills DVD today.

(Rental)-Attack & React Transition And Zone Offense
$15.99
4-Out 1-In Attack and React Offense: Transition and Zone Offense
Attack and React Offense founder Andrew Grantz provides an inside look at how his unique style of offense can be used in a multitude of ways. In this video, Coach Grantz – now the head boys’ basketball coach at Fort Myers HS in Florida – uses on-court demonstration to show you how his offense can break a press, be used in transition, and serve as a highly effective half-court zone offense.
Coach Grantz spent several years as an assistant coach at Indiana University Southeast and as a head coach at Our Lady of Providence HS (IN) while creating the Attack & React. You will see in this video how his attack can serve as an entire offense simplifying your playbook all while making your players more efficient.
Transition Offense
The ease of the Attack and React offense allows players to create scoring opportunities at any time. When flowing from the offense into transition for example, players do not follow a set pattern. Instead, players fall into five positions – any player can fall into any position – in an effort to create a scoring chance. Coach Grantz will also show you how to flow right into the secondary break so you do not have to install more plays for your offense to remember.
Delay Game
One aspect of the game that many coaches often overlook is the delay game. Coach Grantz shows you how to implement a delay that uses the same principles as the Attack & React Offense. Grantz also shows you two simple rules for creating more offensive rebounding opportunities.
Attack and React Zone Offense
Teams that have adapted to the Attack and React Offense attempt to slow down the offense by playing zone. In this segment, Coach Grantz shows you how to attack both the 2-3 and 1-3-1 zone defenses with the Attack & React. You will see how to attack gaps in the defense and look for pitch outs and open jumpers. Coach Grantz also shows teams how to use the dribble, the ball screen, and the shuffle cut to attack these zone defenses.
When teams overplay on defense, Coach Grantz demonstrates the effectiveness of the backdoor cut. Proper backdoor cuts will earn the respect of opponents and prevent them from overplaying. You will see in this 61-minute video that Coach Grantz has an answer for anything a zone defense can throw at him. His Attack & React offense is full of the tools necessary to put up points against any defense. Rent this Attack and React Offense DVD today.

Matt Langel
(Rental)-4 Out 1 In Dribble Hand Off Motion Offense
$18.99
4-Out-1-In Dribble Hand-Off Motion Offense
Colgate University head coach Matt Langel has built one of the most effective and efficient offenses in the Patriot League. Langel, a former player at Penn, has rebuilt the Raiders program with an offense that focuses on early transition and then setting up the half-court 4-out-1-in offense. Langel won the Patriot League’s Coach of the Year award in 2018 and ’19 leading the Raiders to a pair of conference championships in the process.
In this video, Coach Langel shows you the drills and actions necessary to make the 4-out-1-in offense work. In addition, you’ll see how Langel trains players to read defenses and look for the best shot.
Training Your Players
It is imperative that players learn to read defenses, especially in the heat of a game. Coach Langel uses a series of 3-on-0 and 3-on-3 drills to create game-like situations so that players can learn to read defenses. Players learn to counter defensive actions with shallow cuts, keeper action, step-behind shots, and more. Langel also does a great job demonstrating how the dribble hand-off can be used to build an entire offense.
4-Out Actions
Langel’s Colgate teams have used the dribble hand-off with great success. He gets into the various actions you can incorporate into a dribble hand-off series. Using 5-on-0 and 5-on-5 situations, Langel shows you how to get your best shooter coming off of floppy action or off a triple screen to get an open shot attempt.
On a ball reversal, you will see how you can turn the dribble hand-off into a continuity offense by simply running the same action on the other side of the floor. The one thing that really sets Langel’s offense apart is his players’ ability to read defenses and determine the best course of action.
Coach Langel also breaks down his transition offense and shows you how it flows right into the half-court offense. Again, he uses 3-on-0 drills and 5-on-0 actions. This presentation is an excellent, detailed look at how employing the dribble hand-off can be used to attack opposing defenses and allow players the freedom to determine their best course of action.
Bob Richey
(Rental)-A Conceptual Approach to Man to Man & Zone Offense
$18.99
Basketball Offense - Conceptual Approach to Man-to-Man & Zone
Furman is not known as a basketball power, but head coach Bob Richey has led the school to back-to-back 20-plus win seasons including a school record 25 wins in the 2018-19 season. That season included wins over 2018 Final Four participants Villanova and Loyola-Chicago. How Coach Richey has done it at Furman is by teaching his players to read defenses and take what is given. In this video, he shows you how to teach your athletes how to break down defenders and develop an unstoppable offense.
Basketball Offense Philosophy
Coach Richey’s philosophy entails allowing players to go from Option 1 to Option 3 in a matter of seconds. He emphasizes close 2s, assisted 3-pointers, and getting players to the free throw line. Doing so can help any player excel at any position on the floor.
Man Basketball Offense
In the man defense segment, Coach Richey breaks down his terminology and shows the actions that he teaches starting with the transition offense. Players learn to use the open floor for easy cuts, drives, and dishes to open shooters.
Once the offense transitions into the half-court, Coach Richey demonstrates a series of actions including a Houston series that uses a dribble handoff and a ball screen to create pick and rolls or pick and pops for your post players.
Zone Basketball Offense
Against zone defenses, Coach Richey likes to put a playmaker in the middle of the zone. Using a 4-around-1 set, players can still use man-to-man cutting actions to score. As players get more comfortable with the cutting actions, you can add in ball screens to create pick and roll situations that often leave wide open back cuts and wide open shooters.
Coach Richey’s offensive system is an easy one to learn and one that players will love. By teaching athletes to read the defense and play without running a continuous offense, they become unstoppable in creating scoring opportunities. Rent this basketball offense DVD today.

Coach Beilein emphasizes sharp cuts and keeping the right spacing as the keys to beating any press.
Special Situations
One of the situations Coach Beilein addresses is what to do when the offense has failed to create a quality scoring opportunity and the shot clock is running out. He shows them how to organize for a final ball screen in a late-shot clock situation.

Open Practice: 5-Man Spread Motion Offense
West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins does not like his players to be robots. That’s why he coaches a free-flowing, open-post style of offense that allows his players freedom to make plays. In this video, Coach Huggins, who is approaching 900 career wins, shows you how to build this type of offense with individual and team breakdown drills. In an open practice setting, you will see the West Virginia motion offense, as well as some set plays, in action.
Positional Drills: Posts
Post players begin by going through over 11 individual drills that emphasize moves (jump hook, drop step, etc.), screens (roll vs. pop), and duck-ins. Posts also work on their shooting from 15 feet and in working on shots they would most likely take within the motion offense.
Post players then work the Reject, Backdoor, and Post drills to work on cuts from the corner to the wing, setting screens, and executing back door cuts to the post. The drills also incorporate perimeter-based actions with inside opportunities that will be available in the motion offense.
Positional Drills: Guards
Individual guard drills emphasize over 14 different shot types. Guards learn to improve the catch-and-shoot jumper from inside the arc, catch-and-shoot jumper from outside the arc, pump fakes, 1-dribble pull-ups, and more. The idea is to build a repertoire of moves and shots that not only benefit themselves, but also their teammates.
All the guard drills are partner-based and involve a ball handler driving down the center lane from half-court. The guard executes a move to set up a drive and kick to a teammate before relocating and receiving a pass from a coach for a shot of their own. The drills are done at game speed and focus on shots guards would take within the motion offense.
Motion Offense
Coach Huggins puts it all together with the Straight Line Cuts and 5-on-0 Backdoor drills. Both work on technique, spacing, and timing within the motion offense. Players learn to get open while filling the next spot or going backdoor against a defensive overplay.
You will see how the playbook opens up even more as the motion offense flows into flex sets, 1-4 sets, and single and double screen situations. The segment ends with a full-court 5-on-5 session where Huggins stops play to instruct his players on the errors in spacing, timing, and decision making.
In addition, Coach Huggins breaks out the whiteboard to draw up his 3-man screen-the-screener action that can be run within the motion offense. Coach Huggins is considered one of the masters of the open-post motion offense. This video gives you an inside look at how to build that offense from the ground up and achieve success within your own program.
