George Barber
(Rental)-George Barber's The System for Basketball
$22.99
George Barber Basketball System
Create More Possessions, Score More Points In the 2018-19 season, Dr. George Barbers Greenville University basketball team set the NCAA Division III record for scoring offense when it averaged 135.1 points per game. Greenville also led the nation in a number of offensive categories. In this video, you will learn Barbers System and how its fast-paced style of play has helped his teams consistently rank in the top five in college basketball (all divisions). Coach Barber details his system in this video using whiteboard diagrams as well as on-court demonstrations in an actual practice setting. Beginning with his philosophy, Coach Barber shares with you his system of offense, defense, and how to plan practices to succeed. Offense The offense is predicated on getting a shot off within 12 seconds. Once the shot is off, Barber preaches a smothering defense designed to get the ball back as quickly as possible. When an opponent scores, players are taught a three-step method for getting the ball out of the rim and getting up the floor in transition. Players are also taught to get to certain spots on the floor and get into the offense as soon as possible. Barbers offense can easily be combined with any other offense like the dribble-drive or read and react. Defense In Barbers style of play, after every made basket players immediately get into attack mode on defense. Coach Barber likes to use a variety of trapping full-court presses, which help to force opponents to speed up. It also makes them uncomfortable. The same is true in the half-court where Barber likes to trap all over the floor. By forcing the ball to a side, opponents set themselves up for the trap and fall into exactly what Barber wants. Practice Planning The System is played at a frenetic pace with 12 to 15 players getting quality minutes throughout the course of a game. Practices have to be designed to prepare those 12 to 15 players for what is to come on game day. Barber has his players engaged in some form of shooting drills for at least 30 minutes each day. Every drill is designed so that players get as many reps as possible in a short amount of time. This simulates game pace. Players will spend another 30 to 40 minutes on defense in practice. They must learn to trap, rotate, and continually put pressure on opponents. If you are looking to build your program around a philosophy that lives on fast-paced offense and pressure defense, Coach Barber has exactly what you need! Avery Johnson
(Rental)-Get To The Altar Building Your Help & Recover Defensive System
$18.99
“Get to the Altar” – Building Your Help & Recover Defensive System
Avery Johnson made an NBA career out of being one of the best defensive point guards of his time. He has taken that same mentality in his coaching career and has served as the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, Brooklyn Nets, and most recently the University of Alabama. In this video, Johnson discusses playing great help defense regardless of players’ skill level or coaching level. You will learn about “getting to the altar” and hear the Johnson’s famous quote, “If you’re not in help position, you’re in the wrong position.”
Basic Help Defense
To understand help defense, Johnson explains the “altar” which is a player on help defense in the middle of the paint. A player will always be in the altar. If the middle player leaves to cut off the baseline, a player will replace him. The defense remains active at all times taking away penetration and forcing jump shots when it correctly rotates.
Coach Johnson addresses the basics of help defense working from a base 4-Out 1-In set covering:
Close outs
Defending cuts
Screen defender’s position
Weak side defender roles
Passes that must be taken away
Direction to force the ball handler
How to deal with a pass made to a screener after they roll to the basket
Pick & Roll Situations & Coverages
Because teams now face stretch 4s and 5s, players must be able to defend the roll and the shot off the screen. Players learn how to defend various pick and roll situations all while being able to defend the altar. Johnson shows players how to help and recover.
Post Defense
Teams must be able to adjust and defend a strong post player in man-to-man defense. To guard that type of player, Johnson covers the following:
How the defender denies the post
How to deal with teams that have great shooters in addition to the strong post
How to double the post and rotate out of it
Special Situations
Coach Johnson uses on-court demonstrations to review rotations within your help defense. He will show you certain scenarios including trapping in different areas of the floor. Cutters are always covered and Johnson preaches more of a gap concept to make sure middle penetration is taken away. Rotations are geared toward making teams shoot jump shots.
Johnson covers a number of scenarios such as defending floppy action, ball pressure, staggered screens, and much more. This is a great video for any coach looking to improve his team’s help defense.

Greg Kampe
(Rental)-Getting Inside Against a Zone Defense
$18.99
How to Score Against a Zone Defense by Getting the Ball Inside
Oakland University head coach Greg Kampe has been at the school for over 20 years and has led the program to over 600 career wins. He is a four-time Summit League Coach of the Year and was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2017. In this video, Kampe shares how his teams beat zone defenses. You will see how he gets his players to understand the why behind attacking zones as well as a few quick hitters he likes to use against zone defenses.
How to Score Against a Zone Defense with Quick Hitters
Kampe emphasizes using false motion in his quick hitters against a zone. False motion creates some deception and allows for the attacking of the middle of the zone. Continually attacking the middle wears your opponents down leading to easy layups and close-range shots.
Kampe uses high-ball screen sets to force defenses to act. The result is a 2-on-1 situation which allows the offense to control tempo and pace. Incorporating high-ball screens also creates lanes for your best passer to find open teammates.
Attacking a Matchup Zone
Teams that play the matchup zone well are tough to beat. Players have a hard time understanding matchup zone and how to beat it. Coach Kampe uses a double post set to create a mismatch for a slashing guard to score in the paint.
Dribble Drive vs. Zone
Coach Kampe likes the dribble handoff in order to create a false action and set up his team’s best penetrator for a ball screen to attack the basket. If the defense stops the dribble penetration, a team’s best shooter is left open for a 3-point attempt. Kampe likes to create these 2-on-1 opportunities to exploit zone defenses.
Favorite Drills
Kampe’s presentation closes with some of his favorite drills. The Closeout Drill teaches players to closeout with high hands using short choppy steps to complete the closeout. The ball is passed around the perimeter while players complete the closeouts.
Coach Kampe has been around the game for a long time and has built a solid program at Oakland. His teams are known for their dominating offenses and it is his false action sets that will be able to provide your team with the fuel it needs to score against your best opponents. Learn How to Score Against a Zone Defense with this DVD today.

Sherri Coale
(Rental)-Getting The Most Out Of Your Team
$18.99
Getting the Most Out of Your Team
There is much more than just winning games when it comes to coaching basketball. University of Oklahoma women’s head coach Sherri Coale has won nearly 500 games, 10 Big 12 championships, and took her 2009 and ’10 teams to the Final Four. In this video, Coach Coale talks about what’s going on in her program and how she has changed her approach to coaching to allow her players and the team become more successful.
Match Your Coaching Philosophy with Your Team
As a coach, getting the most out of your team, you have to understand what your players do well. Coach Coale stresses meshing your philosophy as a coach with your team’s strengths. Using the secondary fast break as an example, Coale explains what she means.
Determine what players do best and build around those traits.
Improve coach and player development by focusing on the coaching staff’s statement-to-question ratio.
Teach players to recognize the optimal threshold to shoot or drive.
Decision Making
In practices, Coach Coale puts players in positions where they are forced to make decisions. Players need to know why they are doing something instead of just being told what to do. Coale and her coaches always try to ask questions in such a way that players end up teaching themselves.
Coale uses the pick and roll as an example here. By breaking down the pick and roll options in the secondary break, Coale demonstrates how to get players to focus on an attack-first mentality. By teaching them the “why,” players make better decisions with the basketball.
Practice Like You Play
While Coale does structure some traditional 5-on-5 practice time, she also makes 1-on-1 and 3-on-3 drills more game-like. In 5-on-5 situations, players are limited in the number of touches they get which decreases their ability to improve certain basketball skills. Coale then likes to turn all of her drills into a game, if possible.
Look at Yourself
Teams will play like they practice and practices will only get better if you improve as a coach. Coach Coale encourages watchers of this video to examine themselves and what they do. Look at teams that are successful and find out what it is that makes them good. Coale goes on to explain what she feels is valuable and how important it is to understand players’ perspectives as well.
This is an intense, engaging video from one of the most successful coaches in college basketball. Coaches at all levels will find several valuable insights into coaching, practice design and much more. Rent this getting the most out of your team for basketball DVD today.
