Sue Phillips
(Rental)-Defensive System For Success
$17.99
Sue Phillips: Defensive System for Success
Long-time Archbishop Mitty HS (CA) girls’ head basketball coach Sue Phillips has over 650 career wins, 10 NorCal regional titles, and five CA state championships. She has also led the USA women’s U17 national team to gold medals in world championship play. Coach Phillips teaches a multiple defensive system that has been a big part of her success.
In this on-court presentation, Coach Phillips shows you 10-plus drills that can be used to teach her man-to-man defense. Phillips teaches Black, which is an aggressive, denial type man-to-man, and White, where players fill into gaps to support the on-ball defender.
Individual Defense
Learn how Coach Phillips teaches basic defensive movements, on-ball defense, stopping penetration, and more. She shares five warm-up drills that help develop defensive mechanics players use when sliding, boxing out, and closing out. These drills include:
Push-Pull: Works on fine tuning proper slides and helps develop explosiveness
Push-Back: Box out drill
Recover Runs: Teaches players how to cover the entire court
Full Court 1-on-1: A competitive drill that works on turning and stopping the ball handler
Closeout Drill: A competitive drill that focuses on fundamentals
Team Defense
Coach Phillips teaches a progression of team defensive drills beginning with a 2-on-1 match up that builds up to a 5-on-4. Since defenses occasionally break down, players need to know how to handle those situations. These drills focus on that.
Dribble-Drop Triangle Shell Drill: Players learn to rotate to help on penetration from the weak side. Players are only allowed to stunt and recover on the strong side.
3-on-3 Penetration Progression: Players defend penetration from the sides and work to shut down middle penetration, helping outside the paint, and closing out.
4-on-3 Circle Chug Drill: Players work on denying the perimeter and shutting down cutters.
4-on-3 Two Post Shell Drill: Players learn to deny the post and switch from help to on-ball or post defense as the ball moves.
To finish it off, Coach Phillips shows you two ways to defend ball screens in a 4-on-4 shell drill. Black has players trapping the ball and looking for the interception. White uses a vertical hedge at the screen to deter the attack of the dribbler. You will also see a variation of this drill that Coach Phillips uses to teach transition defense.
Coach Phillips presentation covers all the elements of a successful defense. With this knowledge, any coach at any level can build a defensive system that will frustrate any opponent.
Chantal Vallee
(Rental)-Defensive System Pack Line & Sparta Defense
$18.99
Defensive System – Pack Line $ Sparta Defense
It’s no secret that defense wins championships. You can learn how to build a defensive system that takes away opponents perimeter shots in this video by well-known Canadian women’s basketball coach Chantal Vallee. The head coach of the University of Windsor women’s team and the head coach and general manager of the Hamilton Honey Badgers Canadian Elite Basketball League team, Vallee shows you how she won five straight CIS national championships. You get an inside look into a training camp session where Coach Vallee teaches her defensive system.
You will see detailed lecture complete with diagrams as well as on-court walkthroughs with players in this presentation. Coach Vallee begins with a 1-on-1 closeout drill to warmup her players then proceeds to show you how to squeeze the space your opponent can use while preventing drives with the Pack Line defense. Coach Vallee also details the Sparta man-to-man defense that has the primary purpose of eliminating the 3-point shot.
Pack Defense
One of the primary goals of the Pack defense is to force an opponent to use their weak hand and then provide help support on any dribble penetration. Coach Vallee shows you how to build this strategy using 2-on-2 drills all the way up to a full 5-on-5. The drills work to teach players the proper defensive positioning to force opponents to go to the weak side of the floor. Coach Vallee explains how to rotate defenders on baseline drives and how rotations adjust based on the position of the post defender.
Sparta Defense
The whole idea of the Sparta defense is to prevent 3-point shots. Less help is provided in this defense as defenders work to deny their match-up. The on-ball defender must force their match-up into a low percentage shot using the proper close out, creating a cushion on the drive, and challenging the shot with what is known as the “ghosting” technique.
If you love playing man-to-man, Coach Vallee has a system that uses some unique tactics that you can incorporate into your system for maximum effect.

(Rental)-Defining The Characteristics Of A Winning Coach
$17.99
How to Be a Winning Coach
In order to become one of Canada’s top women’s basketball coaches, Chantal Vallee studied the best coaches from around the world. What made these coaches stand out from the rest? Coach Vallee analyzed data from her extensive research and even interviewed several experts to find out the ideas and strategies that most closely correlate with coaching success.
Coach Vallee used that knowledge to win five straight Canadian Interuniversity Sports (CIS) women’s basketball national championships (2011-15), earn two CIS Coach of the Year awards, and become the head coach and general manager of the Hamilton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League.
In this presentation, Coach Vallee uses a whiteboard to go beyond the X’s and O’s of the game and demonstrates how the “art” of coaching plays a key role in the success of winning coaches. She breaks down her findings into a few simple concepts: leaders lead, less is more, technical and tactical, and coaches perspectives on building a successful program. It is these concepts that have helped Coach Vallee become one of the top coaches in Canada.
How to Be a Winning Coach Presentation
The presentation begins with the idea that leaders are those who simply lead. They are not threatened by others and are able to inspire. Coach Vallee goes on to challenge conventional thinking about things like season plans. She shares a few anecdotes from her past as she built the greatest program her league has ever seen.
Coach Vallee shares how the maxim “less is more” can be used to prevent overtraining your athletes so they can be at their peak when it counts. She also shares technical and tactical philosophies that are results-oriented and promote communication between players and coaches. This builds the concept of team. Coach Vallee talks about the transformational model of leadership where relationship-building is an important component in the whole player-coach experience.
The whole presentation is then tied together into the four categories of success Coach Vallee found in her research. These include:
The central building block of Vision, which includes smaller goals and directions
Organizational skills as related to program-building and connecting to stakeholders, which is also linked to Vision
Commitment to learning, where coaches continue to learn about leadership and how to build relationships
Player empowerment, which builds life skills and fosters individual growth of players and is extremely important in today’s generation of millennials
For coaches hoping to develop an elite program, Coach Vallee’s work into the elements of successful coaches is sure to help. Break away from the middle of the pack and choose success with Coach Vallee’s video. Rent this how to be a winning coach DVD today.

Danny Miles
(Rental)-Developing A Winning Culture W- Competitive Drills
$15.99
Tim Miles: Developing a Winning Culture with Competitive Practice Drills
Former Nebraska head coach Tim Miles takes you through a presentation of the drills he used to change the way his teams played. Throughout his coaching career, Coach Miles was tasked with taking over a below-average program and turning it into a winner. He did so successfully and at Nebraska won the Big Ten’s Coach of the Year award in 2014 when he led the Cornhuskers to the NCAA tournament.
Culture Change
Coach Miles starts his presentation with a discussion of how he was able to change the culture of his programs. He identifies key questions you should be asking yourself as you analyze your program. That is one of the keys to beginning the process of change. Miles also points out that, as a head coach, you must know and win your locker room.
Practice Drills
The bulk of Miles’ presentation is centered on nine practice drills and the different ways you can limit the drills to teach your players basketball skills. Each drill will challenge players and make them think about offensive/defensive actions. The drills also serve to condition your athletes and make them aware of their habits. The drills include:
2-on-2 Drills: these teach players to make smart and effective decisions in transition, reading screens, and how to stay out of foul trouble
3-on-3 Drills: players learn creative ways to feed the post and rebound the basketball
4-on-4 Drills: these are full-court drills that teach players how to move without the ball and maximize the dribble against pressure defense
GATA Program
The final segment of the presentation is Miles’ GATA program. Coach Miles wants to push his players harder than they ever have or harder than they are used to. Practice pace and patterns might be one of the reasons why teams lose. Teams that have a long warmup then get intense and float through the end of practice may do the same in games and not finish well. Miles GATA program addresses that to ensure teams play hard the entire game.
This is a great practice drill video for any coach at any level looking to add new and innovative toughness drills that will push players to the next level.
Danny Manning
(Rental)-Developing Guards For The Ball Screen Offense
$17.99
Developing Guards for the Ball Screen Offense
Learn to properly develop your guards for the ball screen offense from one of the game’s great players of all-time. Danny Manning, former star at Kansas and now the head coach at Wake Forest, shows you how to develop your perimeter players to play in the ball screen offense. Using on-court demonstrations, Coach Manning presents detailed explanations of proper footwork, screening angles, and attacks needed to develop your guards coming off of ball screens.
Guard Play
In an effective ball screen offense, ball handlers are required to do four things. They must have the ability to turn the corner, split a ball screen, refuse a ball screen, and stay out of potential trapping situation. Watch as Coach Manning uses a series of 2-on-2 drills to teach guards how to beat the different defensive looks played against on-ball screens.
In this segment, Manning presents a method of attack for each scenario. These scenarios include:
Getting around the edge
Splitting the defense
Beat a trap
Refusing a ball screen
Two dribble finishes
Pick-and –Pop
Screen Angles
Screen angles are important in the ball screen offense and Coach Manning demonstrates five different angles that can be used in the half-court offense. The Middle Attack Pick, for example, is used to set up players to get around the edge of a defense. The Side Angle Screen opens up opportunities to get into the paint for easy scoring chances.
For each angle, Manning begins the teaching process in a 2-on-0 and then progresses to 2-on-2. He emphasizes helping players understand reads as they come off of a screen. This helps to improve players’ basketball IQ and, in the end, produce more wins.
Court Awareness
Manning also spends some time helping to develop guards’ skills both on and off the screen. To develop court awareness, Coach Manning runs odd numbered shooting drills. These drills work on kick outs and the ‘catch and go.’ Players also work on pivoting with both feet, a lost art in modern basketball. Players also work on shooting off the dribble, jab steps, and shot fakes.
If you are looking for a way to develop your perimeter players into offensive forces using the pick-and-roll, this 47-minute video from two-time NCAA champion Danny Manning is the way to start.
Matt Painter
(Rental)-Developing Interchangeable Perimeter & Post Players
$18.99
OPEN PRACTICE: DEVELOPING INTERCHANGEABLE PERIMETER AND POST PLAYERS
MATT PAINTER
ABOUT THE COACH
He is the head coach at Purdue University. He was part of the team who won the 2017 big 10 regular season. He has also been able to win about three titles in the big ten. He is also the coach of the year on three occasions for the Big Ten regular and he has also served as the assistant coach of the under-19 national team where they finished first.
ABOUT THE VIDEO
The talent of your players would do you no good if you have terrible tactics both offensively and defensively. Therefore, it is important that you develop the skills of your players as early as you can. This coach shows you in this video how to approach any skill development program by using the same drills which the Purdue Boilermakers use in their practice session. This program also identifies with the concept of motion offence which is also used by Purdue Boilermakers.
This video would afford most coaches an opportunity to teach their students effectively on how they can develop their skills effectively. There a number of concepts which would be highlighted and then basic screen which highlights his motion offence concept would also be looked at in the video. This would be accompanied by post feeds and ideas which would help to make your practice more effective. We shall start with Perimeter Breakdown Drills
THE PERIMETER BREAKDOWN DRILLS
This drill is composed of about eight smaller drills whose job is to ensure that your players spend their session working out every part of their body. These drills would allow your players to be able to work on various tactics which would allow them to be able to stop offensive plays which are designed to tear them apart.
Painter also shows coaches how to teach and develop their post players. He does this by through the help of some practice drills. These drills show the players how to ensure that the paint is completely locked down in a match and teaches these players how to defend against drills and set plays that are pick and roll in nature. These post players would be interested in learning how to dribble and score through many methods including ball screens. This can be developed during the two breakdown shooting drills which would ensure that the post players improve when it comes to scoring.
LIVE SKILL DEVELOPMENT
Once the players in practice have been able to perfect a new set play around the rim area, it is now important that these skills which have been learnt should be used to make sure that they score in a real game situation. That is why Coach Purdue ensures that this happens by sharing them into five against five and allowing them to test the new move which they have been able to perfect. This would see the players probably doing up to 40 motion offences.
This video would be able to show how coaches can develop the skill of their players through these exercises.
