There is a saying that if you score more than 10 points in transition, most likely you are going to win the game. If your team is really playing well in transition, it means that they have good handles and passing, good timing, and good decision-making.



This drill that Coach McDermott does with his team is not just practicing the transition offense, but at the same time, it improves the transition defense.


Divide the team into 2 teams of 5, and let them stand on the baseline and on the free throw line just as shown in the picture.

The team on the baseline is offense, and the team on the free throw line is defense.


The defense team is then divided into 3 mini-teams. 1, 2, and 3. Depending on what kind of drill you want to do, 5 on 4, 5 on 3, or 5 on 2, while giving the ball to the offense you will shout which defensive mini group has to run towards the baseline and then try to take part in defending the basket. The offense must execute in 12 seconds.
