Individual & Team Shooting Drills that Simulate Game Situations
If you’re a great shooter, you don’t always get an easy shot as defenses work to prevent open looks. Legendary high school basketball coach Pat Clatchey shows you how to develop high-performing shooters with 12 elite level shooting drills. Clatchey has over 600 career wins as the head coach at Mount St. Joseph HS (MD) where he has won 23 league and tournament titles since 2003 and has produced over 40 Division I student-athletes.
Coach Clatchey takes you through a comprehensive compilation of individual and team shooting drills beginning with a basic warmup and progressing to much more challenging catch-and-move drills. Each drill is broken down to provide focus on key areas of the game. The drills also emphasize the importance of accurate passing as players work penetrate and kick drills as well as others off continuous ball screens.
Individual Shooting Drills
Coach Clatchey teaches five shooting drills that will work with any group size. They work in a small skill development group or in a large camp setting. Players get reps to develop a collection of scoring moves from various distances on the floor. Follow the Leader and Righty-Lefty drills teach players to finish in the paint with layups or mid-range jumpers.
You will also learn drills that help players create their own shots. The best scorers are those that can create scoring opportunities. One Minute Shooting teaches players to shoot on the move. Hand-off Shooting and 2-Ball Chair drills help players develop into scoring machines off the dribble with hand-offs and ball screens.
Competitive Shooting Drills
The best shooters also do well under pressure. Competitive shooting drills put pressure on the shooters to perform just as they would in a game situation. Coach Clatchey shares two competitive drills where players face off against one another. The challenge motivates athletes to focus on perfecting their shooting technique as they attempt to beat their previous records.
Team Shooting Drills
Coach Clatchey shows you how he uses five team-based shooting drills. These are great for larger groups of players and can easily be implemented into your practices. These drills emphasize turning players into scorers that can shoot with consistency off the dribble. The Continuous Ball Screen Drill teaches screeners how to score off rolls and pops. You can also condition using the Full-Court Shooting Drill.
Each drill is explained in detail by Clatchey. He shows you how to set each drill up, points of emphasis, and how you can tailor each drill to your players’ skill levels. This video offers you a full menu of ways to improve your team’s shooting performance.
