Getting the Most out of Your Basketball Practice Sessions
Don Showalter is one of the nation’s most accomplished high school basketball coaches. He has won over 500 career games at Iowa City (IA) HS. He also served as a USA Development coach and was a six-time gold medalist with USA Men’s U16 and U17 national teams.
In this basketball practice video, Coach Showalter shares his years of experience and how he refined his philosophy to help him get the most out of his practice sessions. Part of that philosophy is that coaches have to create an atmosphere that players enjoy and desire to improve. Along with that, Showalter stresses a passion for the game and your players as well as making adjustments to fit your personnel.
Showalter shares 17 practice thoughts and ideas that include expectations, ideas about team building, and designing drills that make players hate to lose. Everything Coach Showalter shares will make you think about how you can improve your practice sessions and get your players vested in what you want to accomplish with your program.
Basketball Practice Drills
Coach Showalter also goes on the court to share some of his favorite combo drills for full- and half-court work. The four-part Texas Drill is a full-court drill that uses the speed dribble, layups, jump shots, the perfect layup and a 5-ball combination layup-jump shot drill. Showalter finishes with offensive and defensive cutthroat drills that incorporate three rules that players have to follow to stay in the drill. These can be done in 3-on-3 or 4-on-4 settings.
All in all, Coach Showalter gives you plenty of nuggets to help you get the most out of your players and your practice sessions. Rent this basketball practice DVD today.
