Sharman White: Dissecting Man-to-Man Defenses with a 1-4 Set Plays
Pace Academy (GA) head coach Sharman White provides a number of high percentage scoring opportunities in this presentation. White is well known in Georgia having won six straight Class AAAA state championships from 2009 to 2014. He is a former Georgia State assistant and has won a pair of national high school coach of the year awards.
In this video, Coach White discusses the 1-4 set plays that were a big part of those six straight state titles. You will see a variety of quick hitting plays that can help any team score some easy baskets and maximize possessions.
Duke & Carolina
Coach White starts with the basics. Any good offense is created by proper spacing, solid screens, and attention to detail. Coach White sets up the 1-4 and then describes each position. He then goes into a series of plays that work off of each other to create scoring opportunities.
The base play is Duke, which is centered on getting the ball into the paint using backdoor cuts, post duck-ins, or simply driving to the basket. You will see two other sets in the Duke series, one designed for a lob and another that uses a dribble hand-off for an open drive to the basket.
Carolina is also introduced here. In Carolina, you will see three sets using an Iverson cut, a duck in the post, and a backdoor cut.
1-4 Low
In addition, Coach White offers a few looks from the 1-4 Low set. These looks also create space for players to operate and they are useful against zone defenses. Coach White demonstrates two specific plays that he likes to use at certain times to help change the momentum in a game. Tennessee gives the opportunity for an open 3-pointer and Carolina Two gives the best athlete on the floor a lob pass at the rim.
Coach White breaks down each play very clearly and specifies all the details needed for each play to be successful. Each play can flow in and out of another and can be used versus man or zone defenses. Take Coach White’s knowledge of quick hitters and add it to your playbook to get your players running on all cylinders and your fans going crazy. Rent this 1-4 set plays DVD today.
