Blue Devils have a variety of half- and complete-court drills that feature a variety game-like situations. These drills range from 2-on-1 to 5-on-1 drills into action or set plays. Duke split drills are where perimeter players and post players work together to develop their pick-and roll and "slips" skills, while perimeter players focus on penetration-and-kick actions and shooting on the move.
The Blue Devils are now on the defensive side of things. They use various pressure defenses, including full-court and three-quarter-court pressure defenses, as well as off-the-ball defenses.
As Assistant Coach Steve Wojciechowski explains how important it is to communicate early and what the point of pressure concept means. He also covers the Duke Method of protecting ball screens at the top of the key as well as on the wing. He shows and teaches the difficult show technique, switching, and trap techniques in great detail.
The Blue Devils move to offense and demonstrate different techniques for breaking full court pressure defenses 2-2-1, 1-2-2, and 1-2-1-1. Coach K shows the "quick pass", and "catch and faces" techniques for attacking full court pressure.
Assistant Coach Chris Collins introduces DukeÕs elbow series. This includes set plays that elevate the post players above their elbows to allow for excellent spacing. This allows small teams to create mismatches, and it provides great cutting action and movement.
Each inbounds play can be a scoring opportunity. Collins shows the "Box Series" and "Line Series" inbounds plays by Duke.
Coach K will provide you with shooting drills to simulate offensive sets and help you better teach them with game-like movements. As Duke drives into the zone, you will see the guards driving into gaps while the post players flash from behind. He also leads 6- and 4-minute scrimmages, where players practice game situations and make better decisions.
Nearly 90 minutes of informative "question-and-answer" sessions bring everything together. They cover topics like Coach K's experience coaching the gold medal-winning USA Olympic Basketball Team, Duke's strategy for scouting opponents and advice for young coaches on how to teach shooting technique.
