(Rental)- 55 Full Court Run & Jump Defense
- Vivian Stringer is one of the all-time great women’s college basketball coaches in the sport’s history. She is the first coach in NCAA history to lead three different women’s programs to the NCAA Final Four – Cheyney, Iowa, and Rutgers. Much of her success has come from a belief in creating chaos on defense. In this video, Coach Stringer teaches and takes you through the “55” full-court pressure defense.
This on-court presentation starts with Stringer walking each player through their positioning, responsibilities, and rules. She goes into great detail to ensure that the defense forces the action and controls the dribbler. The goals of the defense are to cause turnovers, create fast break opportunities, control the tempo of a game, and increase scoring opportunities by using an aggressive, trapping defense.
Coach Stringer then goes through the 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-man switch in the run and jump defense. She finishes by outlining the most important elements of the base “55” trapping defense. Teams that may be smaller or less talented will find Coach Stringer’s defense can help them stay in games with those superior opponents.
Stringer has used full-court pressure to overwhelm and frustrate opponents for years. To say it has worked is an understatement. Stringer is fifth all-time in career wins in women’s college basketball with 1,055 heading into the 2021-22 season.
If you are searching for a way to make your team more competitive, Coach Stringer’s presentation is a must-have. Learn the philosophy and teaching points of the full-court trap as well as the run and jump defense from one of the best in the game’s history.
