His philosophy of competitive preparation is a cornerstone of Coach MoranÕs success as an instructor and coach. The practice of competing situations every day is a way to achieve success. Half court defense is more effective when a good scorer is involved. Moran's defense is based on his strengths and skills. Moran's primary focus is on the two top scorers of the opponent's team. As in the half court, offensive player are also categorized according their skill on the full court. Only ball handlers can use double teams. Moran places 10 players on the court to create full-court pressure. This full-court system focuses heavily on ball technique. The goal is to get the ball out from the guard's hands, and have post players handle it under intense pressure. This pressure defense has a unique feature: some players are allowed to receive the ball while others keep it. Pressure trapping on the side out of bounds plays is another feature.
