5 & 4 Out Offensive System by Bob McKillop
Install a 5 & 4 Out offensive system that is built on simple strategies and focuses on teaching players rather than teaching sets. That is exactly what Davidson head coach Bob McKillop has done during his outstanding career with the Wildcats. With 16 trips to postseason tournaments and 550-plus career victories, McKillop has built an offensive system that has adapted over the past thirty years. In this video, he shares with you his basic philosophy, strategies and techniques, and even offers a great drill to teach it all.
Philosophy and Principles
McKillop has strived to keep the game simple for his players. There are seven fundamental keys to success that guide McKillop’s offense:
Seeing
Talking
Acting
Detailed
Flesh to flesh contact
Finish things
Down and balanced
Using these principles as a guide, McKillop has been able to create a balanced offensive attack that features just five simple rules. Attack space, finish your cut, dribble with a purpose, help someone, and catch and see. This is how you teach players without teaching sets.
Strategies and Techniques
All McKillop’s players must have a basic understanding of the offense. Coach McKillop teaches his players the basics using a 3-on-0 setup. He helps his players understand how to read a defense and how to attack any open space. Players are able to learn the movements, actions, and techniques needed to be successful. McKillop also teaches that the “next shot is the most important shot” which is a mindset he wants his players to have.
3 Possession Reads
This drill is perfect for teaching the principles, actions, and movements of Coach McKillop’s offense. Three simple actions – Step in Screen, Cut Screen, and Fade Screen – will increase scoring opportunities for players. These simple screens multiply the number of actions that are possible for your players to get open shots. Coach McKillop teaches that timing of the screens is vital.
In the end, this 107-minute video is an outstanding motion offense guide. Using simple actions, Coach McKillop shows you how players can get open easily. It’s easy to see why McKillop has been able to win so many games. If you want to learn more motion offense, this DVD is for you. Rent this 5 & 4 Out Offensive System DVD today.

You'll get to watch him install all of the layers of the Read & React Offense in real time.
Now will you achieve master of the Read and React Offense in 5 practices? Of course not but you can introduce the entire offense to your team by watching Rick Torbett do it. The great thing about the Read & React Offense is that players get to make decisions on the court instead of the coach controlling everything with set plays. All playes can succeed in the Read & React Offense. You can give your stronger players more options and weaker players less options. But the key is they can all play together regardless of skill level.
For example, stronger players can drive to the basket, dribble at, do a hand off, or get involved in a pick and roll. Now if you have a weaker player who doesn't have those skills you can just have them always cut to the basket. This sets up the weaker player for success in the offense because they have an option and if they are open they will probably be getting the shot they are most capable of making.

Frank Martin
(Rental)-Frank Martin's Half Court Pressure Man To Man Defense
$24.99
Man to Man Defense with Frank Martin
In today’s game of basketball, playing good man to man defense is vital. In this video, you will learn the pressure half-court man-to-man of South Carolina head coach Frank Martin. Coach Martin took the Gamecocks to the 2017 Final Four and earned the Jim Phelan Coach of the Year as a result.
Coach Martin will take you through how to set up the defense and the drills he uses to produce one of the nation’s most aggressive man-to-man defenses. Each drill has a purpose in teaching players how to communicate and trust each other in executing the defense.
Man to Man Defense Set Up
Coach Martin’s man to man defense video begins the most basic element of pressure defense – the set up. The defense picks up the ball at half-court and forces the dribbler one way or the other. Defenders learn to be on the line and up the line. As the ball is pressured, the other four defenders play up the line and deny all passes. This forces offenses to dribble instead of searching for and passing to open teammates with better scoring chances.
Included in Martin’s discussion of the set-up is help side defense. Defenders must understand that the further the man being defended is from the ball, the closer the defender is to offer help. This puts even more pressure on the dribbler. Also, Martin’s pressure defense is about attitude and aggressiveness. Those key characteristics are part of the set-up of the defense.
Playing Post Defense
In Martin’s defense, defenders need to be closer to the ball than their man. Post players have to become very good at breaking contact and staying up the line. When the ball breaks below the free throw line, post defenders have to get to the baseline. Martin teaches the Short Closeout drill to teach post players to progress from a closeout to squaring off with a ball handler.
Open Court Situations
To begin the progression of teaching the pressure defense, Martin utilizes a 2-on-1 drill building to a 3-on-2 where players must apply their stunt and force players to choose between keeping the ball or passing to a teammate. The idea that Martin stresses is that a defender should never give up on a play regardless of the situation.
Full Court 4-on-4
From the Open Court situations, Martin then introduces the 4-on-4 Full Court drill to teach all of the principles learned in break down drills. Players learn that when a defender is beaten by a dribbler the second line of defense must stunt and force the ball handler to make a decision. In the half-court, defenders learn how to deal with all sorts of screens.
Ball Screen Coverage
Martin emphasizes ball screen coverage and how to best defend one of the most widely used screens in basketball. Players are taught to go under the screen. You will see Martin teach this in a half-court drill where defenders are taught to be up the line, on the line, and closer to the ball than their man. These are the basic principles of Martin’s defense. Rent this Man to Man Defense DVD today.
Bob Huggins
(Rental)-Defensive Drills For Creating Turnovers
$19.99
Defensive Drills for Creating Turnovers
Nothing can turn up the heat on an offense like pressure defense. In this drills for creating turnovers video, West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins opens the doors to one of his defensive-focused practices where you will see how he builds both his full- and half-court defenses. Huggins is well known throughout the nation for his pressure defenses that lead to turnovers and easy points. His defenses throughout the years have been a big part of his 765 career wins. Using whiteboard diagrams, lecture, and practice footage; Huggins describes his philosophy of defense and takes you through many of the drills that help develop his style of play.
Defensive Philosophy
Coach Huggins discusses spacing first showing how to cut the court in half, shrink space for offenses, and how doing so enables trapping areas. You will hear Huggins speak of the traits his players must have in order to play good team defense. Coach Huggins prefers an up-the-line/on-the-line style of defense which is known to disrupt an opponent’s attack, take away vision, and now allow direct passing lanes. You will also hear about the Mountaineers’ approach to defending the pick and roll, when to trap, how to defend an inbound pass, scouting, rebounding, and toughness.
Up-the-Line, On-the-Line Drills
For Huggins, help defenders must position themselves between the passer and their man. Huggins teaches this skill through several variations of break down drills that teach proper angles on close outs and 1- or 2-pass positioning.
Using 2-on-2 drills with the help of an unguarded manager, Huggins shows the proper angles defenders must take in order to deny direct line passes. Players in Huggins’ system learn to push the ball to the sideline and off of the 3-point line. They also learn to deal with back-door cuts. Eventually, the break down drills progress to 4-on-4 where players work on proper positioning and help defense. This group of drills culminates with the 4-on-4 +1 drill that puts the defense at a disadvantage forcing players to scramble and communicate.
Position Specific Drills
Huggins breaks down drills for individual positions. Perimeter players work on close outs and applying maximum on-ball pressure. Post players go through five different drills designed to improve their on-ball defense. The 1-on-1 Fast Break Drill challenges post players to protect the rim against an attacker operating off a full speed dribble.
Full Court Pressure
For Coach Huggins, diagramming the press is something that is difficult. He bases his press on taking away what an offense does best and exploiting weaknesses. You will see five drills including the Flick Drill which teaches players how to create fast break opportunities by forcing a turnover with a back tip to a teammate.
Post players work on playing up the line to deny flash cuts by players up the sideline. You will also see back line defenders shifting from denial defense to intercepting passes as help defenders. Posts also work on defending the rim in a 2-on-1 situation trying to force an extra pass. All of the drills in Coach Huggins’ 111-minute video are designed to help you raise the pressure of your defensive system and force more turnovers. Rent this drills for creating turnovers DVD today.

Mastering the Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense: A Comprehensive Guide
Introduction
Welcome to our comprehensive guide on the Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense, a defensive strategy that will revolutionize your team's ability to disrupt opponents' offenses. In this article, we will delve into the intricacies of the Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense, providing you with expert insights, advanced techniques, and detailed breakdowns to help you outperform your opponents on the basketball court. Whether you're a coach, player, or basketball enthusiast, this guide is your key to unlocking the full potential of the Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense.
Understanding the Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense
The Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense, developed by renowned basketball coach Coach Kelbick, is a highly effective defensive strategy designed to stifle opponents' offenses. This innovative approach combines elements of both man-to-man and zone defense, creating confusion for the offense while maintaining defensive integrity. By implementing the Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense, your team can gain a significant advantage by disrupting opponents' scoring opportunities.
Key Principles of the Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense
1. Assigning Defensive Roles
One of the fundamental principles of the Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense is assigning specific defensive roles to each player. Each defender is responsible for guarding a specific area or player within the zone, creating a "match-up" concept. This approach allows defenders to focus on their assigned area while maintaining the flexibility to switch and communicate when necessary.
2. Constant Communication and Rotation
Communication and rotation are crucial elements of the Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense. Defenders must communicate effectively to ensure seamless rotations, covering offensive threats and closing gaps in the defense. This active communication prevents offensive players from finding open spots and disrupts their rhythm and flow.
3. Active Ball Pressure
The Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense emphasizes active ball pressure to disrupt offensive actions. Defenders must apply pressure on the ball handler, making it challenging for them to make precise passes or find open teammates. This pressure forces opponents into uncomfortable situations and increases the likelihood of turnovers or forced shots.
Implementing the Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense
To successfully implement the Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense, teams must focus on key strategies and techniques. Let's explore some of the essential elements that will enhance your team's defensive prowess:
1. Defending Key Areas
In the Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense, defenders are assigned specific areas or players to guard. This includes areas near the basket, the high post, and the perimeter. By assigning defenders to these key areas, you can disrupt offensive actions, contest shots, and limit scoring opportunities.
2. Active Hands and Disruptive Techniques
Active hands and disruptive techniques are essential in the Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense. Defenders should aim to contest passes, disrupt dribbles, and challenge shots. By actively engaging with offensive players, defenders can create deflections, turnovers, and contested shots, making it difficult for opponents to execute their offensive strategies.
3. Seamless Rotations and Help Defense
Seamless rotations and help defense are crucial components of the Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense. Defenders must communicate and rotate effectively to cover open offensive players or close gaps in the defense. This collective effort ensures that there are no breakdowns in the defense, maintaining its integrity and preventing easy scoring opportunities for opponents.
The Benefits of the Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense
Implementing the Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense offers numerous benefits that can elevate your
team's defensive capabilities. Let's explore some key advantages:
1. Defensive Versatility
The Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense provides defensive versatility, combining elements of both man-to-man and zone defense. This allows your team to adapt to different offensive strategies and player matchups. The ability to switch, communicate, and adjust defensive assignments disrupts opponents' offensive flow and creates confusion, limiting their scoring opportunities.
2. Disruption and Ball Pressure
The Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense is designed to disrupt opponents' offensive actions and apply constant ball pressure. By actively pressuring the ball handler and forcing them out of their comfort zone, your team can create turnovers, deflections, and rushed shots. This aggressive approach disrupts offensive rhythm and frustrates opponents, increasing the likelihood of defensive stops.
3. Contested Shots and Rebounding Opportunities
Through effective positioning and active rotations, the Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense ensures that offensive players face contested shots. By contesting shots, your team reduces opponents' shooting percentages and increases the chances of defensive rebounds. This defensive rebounding advantage allows your team to regain possession and initiate fast break opportunities.
4. Team Communication and Unity
Implementing the Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense fosters strong team communication and unity. Defenders must constantly communicate, alerting teammates about offensive actions and rotations. This communication builds trust, cohesion, and a collective defensive mindset. The shared responsibility of defending specific areas or players enhances team chemistry and strengthens defensive effectiveness.
5. Strategic Adjustments
The Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense provides the flexibility to make strategic adjustments based on opponents' offensive strengths and weaknesses. Coaches and players can analyze opponents' tendencies and adjust defensive assignments or positioning accordingly. This adaptability allows your team to exploit weaknesses, neutralize offensive threats, and maintain defensive control throughout the game.
Conclusion
The Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense is a game-changing strategy that can elevate your team's defensive performance to new heights. By implementing the key principles, strategies, and techniques outlined in this guide, you will equip your team with the tools necessary to disrupt opponents' offenses and control the game. Remember, mastering the Kelbick Match-Up Zone Defense requires practice, communication, and a commitment to defensive excellence. So, embrace the match-up concept, unleash your team's defensive prowess, and watch as opponents struggle to find scoring opportunities. The path to defensive dominance starts here!

Triangle & Two Defense : The Complete Guide
Learn how to take away an opponent’s top two scorers with the triangle & two defense from legendary head coach Rick Majerus. Using his version of the triangle-and-two, Majerus took teams at Utah and Saint Louis to 12 NCAA appearances, 11 conference championships, four Sweet Sixteens, two Elite Eights, and a national runner-up in 1998.
In this 105-minute video, Majerus reveals his philosophy for the triangle & two defense. He details the responsibilities of each player on the defense and shows you how, when used properly, this defense can absolutely immobilize an opponent.
Coach Majerus teaches and demonstrates several fundamental defensive concepts including closeouts and defending cutters. He also discusses the idea of defending different types of screens as well as hand-offs. When taught and installed correctly, the triangle-and-two becomes a huge disruptor to any offense.
Triangle & Two Defense Techniques
One of the key techniques that Majerus coaches is the “fake and fade,” which prevents shooters from getting open looks at the basket. The fake and fade technique takes away a player’s shot and forces a dribble drive. That is exactly what Majerus wants. Players are forced to become dribblers and dribble right into the triangle.
To help counter dribble penetration, you will see how Coach Majerus teaches “sliding the triangle.” In addition, Majerus presents game footage that reinforces the fake and fade, sliding the triangle, and the other concepts taught in this stifling defense.
Shut down your opponent’s top two scorers, disrupt screens, and stop dribble penetration with Coach Majerus’s complete triangle & two defense. It’s a defense that takes away what an opponent does best and it forces teams to prepare for another defensive look. From one of the masters of college basketball, Coach Majerus’s triangle-and-two presentation belongs in any successful coach’s collection. Rent Triangle & Two Defense DVD today.

Jay Wright – Attacking Footwork Drills for Guards
Footwork drills for guards with Jay Wright. There is reason why the Villanova basketball program has had so much success over the past decade. With two national titles in the last three seasons, the Wildcats have emerged as one of the nation’s elite basketball schools. Head coach Jay Wright is the guy that made it happen.
In this footwork drills for guards video, Wright shares with you his approach to teaching proper basketball fundamentals and footwork. You will see firsthand how Wright has transformed players from different high school systems all over the country into cohesive units that annually contend for Big East and national championships.
Wright knows what he is talking about. His Wildcat teams have won five Big East regular season titles, two conference tournament championships, and, of course, the 2018 national title. As a result of last year’s championship, Wright was honored with his second Naismith College Coach of the Year Award.
Coach Wright teaches all of his players, regardless of position, proper fundamentals and footwork that have allowed Villanova to gain an edge over its Big East opponents. In the video, you will see how Wright identifies the four major scoring areas on the basketball floor:
Wing
Prime time (block)
Mid-post (off block)
Slot (high post)
All of Wright’s players have the ability to score from any of these four areas. One of the big reasons why is the use of proper footwork. Wright preaches that players must have the ability to score off of either foot. Villanova workouts consist of players learning to pivot on either foot and on both sides of the floor. He constantly tells his players the why behind the proper footwork too.
Footwork Drills for Guards - Learn to Score
Wright will demonstrate the Jab Series for you in this video. The series will help you created a number of scoring opportunities from various areas on the floor. You will see the Jab Series used with and without a screen. The Wildcats have used both options as part of the foundation of their perimeter offense.
You will also see the Jab Series’ complement, the Swing Series. The Swing Series incorporates the reverse pivot, the bully move, and two-footed hop jumpers. Using both the Swing and Jab will only enhance your team’s ability to attack defenses and score from anywhere on the floor. This 50-minute video offers a different perspective on perimeter play with its emphasis on footwork. Rent this footwork drills for guards DVD today.
Jesse Shaw
(Rental)-The Jet 4-out High Post Offense
$17.99
Jesse Shaw: The Jet 4-Out High Post Offense
Scoring points in high school basketball can be a challenge especially in programs that lack size. Jesse Shaw, head coach at Antigo HS in Wisconsin, won four straight conference titles between 2013-16 and a 2010 state coach of the year award by instituting the Jet Offense.
Borrowing from Michigan’s John Beilein, Shaw’s offensive attack uses four guards, one post, and effective spacing to take advantage of opponents. In this video, Coach Shaw teaches the Jet Offense including two counters, five quick-hitting plays, and three pressure releases.
Jet Offense
Using a 5-on-0 half-court setting, Shaw introduces the Jet Offense. Not having much size on an annual basis, he instead focuses on spacing the floor and using motion to get high percentage shots. Shaw then begins teaching the three basic movements of the offense, which all begin with an initial pass.
Guard-to-Guard Pass: Learn how to use a rub screen in the beginning of the possession to create space in the paint for the next scoring option. Guards have five scoring options off of the ball screen.
Guard-to-Corner Pass: Learn how to start the offense with simple eye contact. Shooters have multiple scoring options coming off a down screen from the post.
Guard-to-Post Pass: You can use your post player to pull the defense out of the lane creating space to score. Posts can also slash to the basket or they can post up and use their array of back-to-the-basket moves.
Pressure Releases
Teams may try and overplay passes in the motion offense. You must have a counter if they do. Coach Shaw presents three pressure release options using a dribble clear, backdoor cut, and a dribble-up to get into the Jet Offense.
Jet Offense Counters
Teams will try and cheat on your basic actions in the Jet Offense. When they do, you must be able to counter. Coach Shaw shows you multiple counters that can be used all while keeping the continuity of the offense. You will also see two counters that will free up your best shooter for an open 3-point look and another that allows your post to pick and pop for an open perimeter shot.
Quick Hitters
It is inevitable that defenses will pick up on an offense’s basic movements. Coach Shaw shows you how to vary your attack with a number of quick hitters that will make your offense less predictable. You will see five sets that use isolating ball screens to create lanes to the basket. Options include one for the post on the block, a backdoor option, and a double stagger for your best shooter.
Coach Shaw’s video presents an answer for high school programs that lack size. The offense has tremendous flexibility and with all of the options and counters opponents simply will not know how to slow you down.
Dave Paulsen
(Rental)-Spread Ball Screen Offense
$24.99
The Spread Ball Screen Offense with Counters & Breakdown Drills
George Mason University head coach Dave Paulsen has had remarkable success at various levels and attributes it to his patented ball screen offense. In this video, which includes a special bonus, Coach Paulsen breaks down all the details of the offense, shows you how to run it, and offers strategies for defeating any defense you might face.
Type of Ball Screens
To begin, Coach Paulsen gives you a breakdown of the offense and explains why floor spacing is so important. Spacing dictates that different actions in the offense. Coach Paulsen then offers details on the different screening actions – side, spread, and alley. From there, he teaches the reads and actions of the ball handler and the screener. You’ll see how they work to create 2-on-1 advantages and why the ball handler should refuse the screen 30 percent of the time.
Actions
Because the offense is so reliant on ball screens, Coach Paulsen shows you different weak side actions that can counter any defensive action. Perimeter players away from the action are involved in spacing the floor and use back cuts, loops, and down screens to keep defenses from keying on ball screens.
Coach Paulsen also shows actions for players that need to create scoring opportunities. You’ll see the lunge, punch, Euro, and lift moves. With the basics covered, players can then run the motion offense in a 5-on-0 setting to learn how to flow into multiple ball screen actions.
Post Play
Defenses will employ certain strategies to disrupt the ball screen offense. Coach Paulsen breaks down different counters to these strategies. These include taking advantage of defenses that rotate to cover the screener, taking advantage of mismatches created by switching, and more.
Coach Paulsen finishes by addressing questions about the defenses that give the offense the most trouble. In addition to Paulsen’s break down of his offense, you also receive a bonus video that includes nearly two hours of Coach Paulsen and his “Vision, Values, and Voyage” approach to building a unified culture on and off the court. The bonus video helps to foster leadership and help coaches build winning programs.

Wes Peek
(Rental)-Pick & Roll Continuity Offense Vs. Man & Zones
$15.99
Pick & Roll Continuity Offense vs. Man and Zone Defenses
The beauty of a pick & roll continuity offense is that it can be successful against man or zone defenses. Former Southport HS (IN) head coach Wes Peek shows you how the offense works against both defenses. What you will see is how guards in the offense are given the freedom to use their creativity and their skill set to maximize this ball screen pick and roll offense.
Using on-court demonstrations as well as whiteboard diagrams, Coach Peek takes you through his pick & roll continuity offense. He shows you how to run a high ball screen attack with an athletic 4, a true point guard, and a dead-eye shooter. Coach Peek teaches you how to use each specific player’s skill set, the verbal visual cues needed, and the variations of the offense.
It all starts with three basic entries into the ball screen offense. Peek then breaks down the offense versus man and zone defenses. If teams do it right, defenses end up out of position with their bigs trying to defend on the perimeter. The long recoveries by the defense create plenty of opportunity for offenses to score.
There are a number of concepts that you will learn in this DVD. They include:

Archie Miller: Off-Season Skill Development
Indiana University head coach Archie Miller guides you through an in-depth workout designed to build skills as well as condition your athletes. Miller formerly the head coach at the University of Dayton where his Flyers won back-to-back Atlantic-10 titles in 2016-17 and advanced the Elite Eight in 2014.
Miller details the strategies and drills he used at Dayton and currently at Indiana to develop players. You will see on-court demonstrations with Miller’s coaching staff. They will take you through a number of drills that you can implement into your off-season program right away. Coach Miller also goes through his offseason plan and how to make sure players are pushed to do their best.
Coach Miller teaches the warmup, ball handling, and shooting drills and also a set of competitive drills that simulate game situations. Miller wants all of his drills – no matter what they are – to be done at game speed. All players learn the following moves from any position on the floor:
Power layup
Reverse hook
Pull up jumper
Step through
Reach out layup
Perimeter-to-post
Coach Miller goes unconventional with his shooting series. It’s not the typical spot shooting drill. Instead, a clock is used to push players to go at game speed. The end result is a tough, challenging shooting workout. Drills include the following:
Spot Shooting Series – 1-Step & 2-Step
Spot Shooting Series on the Move
3 Men, 2 Balls Drill (shoot 2s, 3s, pullup jumpers, half-court speed pullup jumpers, and line shooting)
The other thing Coach Miller does is chart players’ progress to help them build confidence and hold them accountable. Players will want to improve as they see their numbers after every workout. They will continue to buy into the program as they see their progress.
Coach Miller’s offseason development program is challenging and helps build the skills your players need to be successful.
