(Rental)-Half Court Match Up Zone Defense
$18.99
Half Court Match-Up Zone Defense
The Match Up Zone Defense is a defense so unique opponents have a hard time figuring out what it is. If you long for a stifling defense that takes offenses completely out of their game, Coach Bill Evans’ video is for you. Coach Evans is the head coach at Idaho State and was previously the winningest head coach in Southern Utah history. While an assistant at Montana from 2007 to 2012, the Grizzlies led the conference in scoring defense every season.
This is one of the most in-depth videos on match-up defense ever produced. Coach Evans shares with you his experience with zone defense and how you can amp up the pressure on offenses with multiple traps and more.
Rules of the Match Up Zone Defense
Using both whiteboard diagrams and on-court demonstrations, Coach Evans reviews the rules of the zone defense. You will see the responsibilities for each player and how they rotate as the ball moves through the offense. Unlike most zone defenses, Coach Evans’ system makes it easier on guards so they are not trying to cover too much of the floor.
Coach Evans explains all of his terminology and court geography so your players can effectively communicate. You will also see how the match-up zone protects the paint and how the “middle man” protects the rim while also getting to the corner with the support of the “up men.”
Adjustments in the Match Up Zone Defense
As with any system, adjustments must be made to counter offenses and their schemes. Coach Evans shows you the most common scenarios that you will face and how to adjust your coverage. The “modify” adjustment is a technique to defend the skip pass, for example.
Coach Evans also goes over how his match-up zone defends ball screen, out of bounds plays, and how the defense can optimize your chance at getting rebounds. The defense is effective at nullifying dribble penetration and Evans presents multiple ways for defending the high post should an offense get the ball inside.
Disrupting Offenses with the Match Up Zone Defense
Where the match-up zone really gets crazy is when the pressure is turned up. Coach Evans shows you how you can really disrupt offenses with traps that can occur in multiple spots on the floor. You will see three different methods for trapping in the low post. The “Choke” and “Blitz” calls help to extend and cut off passing lanes. These are the types of adjustments that confuse offenses and result in turnovers.
Coach Evans includes three breakdown drills you can use to help install his defensive system. The drills help your players understand the different rotations and how to get to their spots as quickly as possible. This 94-minute video is an outstanding look at the match-up zone. Craig Doty: Offensive Success vs a Switching Man-to-Man Defense
Teams playing against an unfamiliar defense often run into trouble. For coaches who go up against a switching man-to-man, this change-up can cause some serious headaches. Craig Doty, head coach at 2018 NAIA Division I national champion Graceland University (IA), shows you how you can gain an advantage against this type of switching man-to-man defense.
Doty, the 2018 NAIA Division National Coach of the Year, also won two NJCAA Division III championships and was a two-time National Junior College Coach of the Year. In this video, he shares with you a number of useful plays that work not only against switching man-to-man defenses, but also straight up man and zone defenses. He explains each play giving you the exact spacing and timing needed. Coach Doty also explains how to take advantage of certain mismatches as they occur and also how to use analytics to improve in practices and games.
Regular Man-to-Man vs. Switching Man-to-Man
To take advantage of man defenses that switch, Coach Doty first demonstrates a variety of plays against a straight man-to-man. Then, he shows you the same plays against a switching man-to-man. From a Horns set, “Pro 1” begins with a pass into the post and a dive to the basket by the point guard. Instead of an open jumper or a feed into the post against straight man, the switching man defense generates a seal by the post for a high-low duck-in pass.
“Pro 3” is another play run from the Horns set used to set up a help-side down screen on an entry to the elbow. Against a switching man defense, the high-low entry to the screening post player result’s in an interior mismatch that leads to easy baskets.
Utilizing Early Offense
Switching man-to-man defenses can cause problems in transition. Coach Doty uses post and wing interchanges and dribble handoffs to create mismatches and exploit the switches. “Harvard” and “Cross” are actions by wings that can lead to easy baskets.
Sets vs. 2-3 Zone
Switch principles can still apply in a 2-3 zone. You will see how down screens and flare screens are used to create open 3-point shots. “Bulldog” leads to open opportunities to the get the ball inside to a post player. “Flood” is another play designed to take advantage of the zone defense.
Using Analytics
Coach Doty takes some time to cover how his team uses analytics. The numbers can often tell you who should be on the floor and who should not. You can also use them to explain to players why they are successful or unsuccessful.
All the plays and actions shown in Coach Doty’s video are used to create opportunities for offenses to attack defenses that switch. What he reveals is a must for anyone looking to expand their playbook and handle uncommon defenses.

(Rental)-Origins Of The Pack Line Defense With Drills
$17.99
Origins of the Pack Line Defense with Breakdown Drills
The Pack Line defense helped propel Virginia to a national title in 2019. The origins of the system came from Virginia head coach Tony Bennett’s father, Dick, a 28-year NCAA coaching veteran. The elder Bennett is best remembered for his time at Wisconsin where he led the Badgers to the 2000 Final Four.
In this video, Bennett shows you how to implement the Pack Line defense, a man-to-man defense that is designed to prevent dribble penetration and contest open 3-point shots. It is a system that allows less athletic teams consistently compete with superior offensive teams.
Why the Pack Line Defense?
Bennett begins with some insight behind his creation of the system and the keys to its success. Bennett identifies several points for those looking to improve their teams on the defensive end. These points include:
Four things Bennett demands from his defense
How to implement game changers
Why the defense is so difficult for great offensive players to crack
Why Bennett moved from push-to-baseline to the Pack Line concept
How the Pack Line limits scoring opportunities against great teams
Characteristics of great defenders
Push to Pack
To play the Pack Line defense, you must have an on-ball defender that pressures the ball and disrupts the ball-handler to get him out of his comfort zone. The on-ball defender must trust his teammates for help. Help defense is key to the Pack Line but different than traditional defenses. Help defenders are often closer to the basket and must straddle the seam in order to be able to close out on a shooter.
Defending Screens
Bennett demonstrates how his players defend screens. His strategy is somewhat unique and his players must hedge, or double, the ball handler. Coach Bennett also teaches a technique where the screener gets smothered if the ball handler is not a great shooter or a threat to score.
Transition Defense
Coach Bennett also teaches “back to attack,” which is a focus on transition defense. You will learn two full-court transition drills that address getting back on defense and preventing easy baskets. Players learn to communicate and stop teams in transition.
This presentation is from one of the great defensive minds of all-time. Learn the suffocating Pack Line defense from the man who created it!

(Rental)-Passive & Attack Zone Offenses
$15.99
Two distinct strategies for beating zone defense are explored by Coach Odom's passive offense and attacks zone offensive package. Odom's passive offense can be used to defeat packed-in zones by allowing players to move in and out of the zone. The attack zone offense, on the other hand, can be used to dismantle pressure-type zone defenses by using dribble penetration or ball movement. Odom teaches you how to pass efficiently against the zone using the high-low pass, skip pass, and air pass. Every pass distorts or exploits any zone defense. Odom has used rover, inside X corner, corner and notch to defeat zone defenses for many years. The extended 1-3-1 zone defense in the half-court is a recent zone trend. Odom illustrates his idea of filling and leaving areas in opposition to the 1-3-1 by using players. Odom believes that the two-prong approach against zones is more effective because it allows for unpredictable movement, cutting, and shot selection. Combining player movement and ball passing can distort and attack the heart of any zone.

Practice Drills to Build Defensive Intensity
Steve Schmidt earned his way into the NJCAA Hall of Fame with a program built on toughness and defense. His Mott Community College (MI) teams have won nearly 700 games, reached eight NJCAA Final Fours, and won four national championships.
In this video, Coach Schmidt reveals his defensive philosophy and shows you how he teaches his system of defense. It all begins with a solid foundation, one that has helped Schmidt-coached teams win over 82 percent of their games.
Coach Schmidt demonstrates three variations of the 1-on-1 Zig-Zag Drill. Each variation has a constant of teaching players how to disrupt the opponent creating a mentality of being ready to guard any player on the floor.
One of the key teaching points as you watch both 1-on-1 and 2-on-2 on-court demonstrations is Schmidt’s emphasis on a defender’s head position. Coach Schmidt teaches players to avoid moving their heads on defense. He also goes over the proper way to defend a back-door cut, how to hedge a screen, how to get into help position, and how to be in a denial position to create havoc for your opponents.
The Shell Drill is then used to teach correct defensive positioning in a half-court setting. Once this is mastered, players are put through a full court pressing situation where they work on their 1-on-1 techniques and then lead into half-court man-to-man situations.
Coach Schmidt creates toughness in his players by running contract drills. The drills also serve as conditioners and they are extremely competitive. The drills simulate game-like situations and game-type energy creating an enthusiasm that forces players to compete. To make the drills even more competitive and game-like, Schmidt shows you how to award points to teams that execute properly and “keep score.”
Maintaining a defensive intensity has been vital to the success of Schmidt’s program. Learn from the master himself how to teach it, drill it, and get your players to buy into the system.

(Rental)-Pro Style Transition Ball Screen Offense

The Rocket Offense: Pro Style Transition Ball-Screen Sets & Breakdowns
Five-time Indiana high school state champion coach Jeremy Bialek shows you a ball screen motion offense similar to that used by Mike D’Antoni of the Houston Rockets in this captivating video. The offense puts players in the right spots for easy shots and teaches players how to read defenses and react accordingly.
Coach Bialek knows a thing or two about offense having won over 400 career games, six conference titles, and the last four ICBA state championships in the state of Indiana. His ball screen motion offense gives players numerous scoring opportunities and can be used in transition or in the half-court.
Running the Rocket Offense
The Rocket Offense has been so successful for Coach Bialek because it provides players with great angles of attack and tremendous scoring opportunities whether in transition or in the half-court offense. The offense is centered around always having two ball handlers. Either ball handler is to continually focus on getting the ball up the floor as quickly as possible. The idea is to push the pace and stretch the floor in an effort to draw out help side defenders. This will permit either attempts at attacking the rim or the ability to hit post players rolling to the basket.
Teams will begin to defend the offense’s transition ball screens in a number of ways. One is to use the hard hedge or trap. Ball handlers learn to time it just right and hit slipping post players or back the ball out and create space once again. Players can then attack the defense again.
Against the normal hedge, ball handlers use a hesitation move to create separation. This allows them to turn the corner or simply reverse the ball all the while looking for a rolling post player. Ball handlers can also look to attach the switch, especially in a mismatch situation taking advantage of a bigger, slower player.
You’ll witness a number of easy entries that Bialek uses to start the offense, create movement, and get the ball to your best players for easy scoring opportunities. Coach Bialek shares with you dribble hand-off options as well as the use of double-down screens in the Rocket Offense.
Rocket Offense Breakdown Drills
Coach Bialek begins with a simple 5-on-0 transition drill to teach players their lanes and the spots they need to be in to create the kind of space necessary for ball screens and drives. As players become comfortable, the defense is added to help players see their reads as well as the various options available coming off a ball screen.
Bialek also uses 1-on-0 and 1-on-1 drills to break down ball handler’s attacks. These drills build into 2-on-0 and 2-on-2 drills where players learn to how hit rolling post players and work on the different types of passes – bounce pass, lob, and dump pass, for example.
This video is part of Coach Bialek’s 2-pack and is a tremendous break down of the pro-style ball screen offense. Learn the drills, the reads, and the best sets to put your players into positions where they can be successful with Coach Bialek’s Rocket Offense. Rent the Rocket Offense DVD today.

Basketball Transition Sets & Effective Out-of-Bounds Plays
More and more teams are focusing on transition offense at all levels of basketball. East Tennessee State head coach Steve Forbes, a 27-year coaching veteran, addresses transition offense as well as inbound plays that he has had success with. Forbes has worked under some of the best coaches in the business including Wichita State’s Gregg Marshall, Tennessee’s Bruce Pearl, and Texas A&M’s Billy Gillespie. Forbes spent two seasons at Northwest Florida State and led his teams to back-to-back NJCAA Division 1 runner-up finishes. He also touches on his philosophy of building successful programs.
Basketball Transition Sets: Quicks 1-9
Coach Forbes begins with nine quick-hitters that can be used to attack a defense in transition. Each play can be used after a make or a miss. The plays include many of the basic actions that can be used by almost any offense. Use ball screens, shuffle cuts, dribble drive actions, and more to attack a defense quickly and get open shots.
Coach Forbes also includes adjustments that can be made off of many of the plays presented. The plays can also be adjusted based on personnel to take advantage of any favorable matchups. You can pick and choose which plays to use based upon your team’s skill set.
Inbounds Plays
You will see a series of inbounds plays that Coach Forbes has used to score quickly. Using a 1-4 low alignment, these plays use lob passes for bigs, pin down screens for the inbounder, dribble handoffs, and isolations.
Coach Forbes also addresses sideline inbounds plays. Using a box formation, players utilize quick-hitting actions like flex cuts, dribble handoffs, lob passes, and more to get players good looks in key situations.
Program Evaluation
For Coach Forbes, basketball is much more than just X’s and O’s. His teams are taught to do things the right way and to play with intensity. To ensure that his teams are sticking to the culture, Forbes details ways in which he evaluates his program. These include:
Evaluation of players by the coaching staff
Evaluation of the players and program by the players
Evaluation of the program by the head coach
Coaches must know what their program’s strengths are and where improvements can be made. The development of the program culture is just as important as transition offense and inbounds plays, which Coach Forbes does a great job with in this 74-minute video. The Versatile Run and Jump Press Defense
The Run and Jump Press Defnese is for you if you are looking to create havoc on defense, coach Jeremy Bialek has the answer in this video where he presents a fast-paced, pressure defense that has been paramount to his success as an Indiana high school head coach. Coach Bialek details his philosophy, provides diagrams as well as on-court demonstrations and drills so you can implement a versatile run and jump defense.
The success of the run and jump press has helped Bialek amass over 400 career wins, six conference titles and five (2011, 2015-2018) ICBA state championships. Bialek’s pressure defense creates an environment in which you can play as many players as possible and it is flexible enough to be combined with any half-court defense.
Whiteboard Session
Coach Bialek spends some time on the whiteboard to introduce the run and jump press defense. He will familiarize you with his philosophy and the rules and goals of the run and jump press defense. You will also see the set up and the different rotations involved in playing the run and jump. The disruption that your team can create will hinder your opponent’s rhythm and force them to focus on beating the defense rather than running their own offense.
Run and Jump Press On-Court Demonstrations
Coach Bialek begins the on-court segment by laying out the foundation of the defense as well as the basic reads that players must look for in order for the run and jump to work. The pressure begins immediately upon the inbounding of the ball. Guards are tasked with forcing the ball to the sideline or to the middle. Coach Bialek then offers to the most important rule of the run and jump defense – do not dive at a pass and allow a 3-on-2 the other way.
Coach Bialek also offers up an alternative form of defense if an up-tempo, aggressive style is not suited to your program. Coach reviews a contain style of full court defense that takes away passing lanes and forces ball handlers to use as much time as possible. It is a defense designed to wear opponents down over the course of a game.
Run and Jump Press Defense Drills
As with the installation of any system, a number of drills are necessary to prepare players. Coach Bialek starts with the basic 1-on-1 full court drills teaching players how to get ahead of and cut off a ball handler. One of the keys with any pressure defense is defending in a disadvantage situation. In the 1-on-3 Full Court Drill, defenders learn to sprint from one ball handler to the next in an attempt to prevent the ball from going straight to the basket.
Drills progress to a 4-on-4-on-4 Continuous where Coach Bialek emphasizes the need for players to rebound, outlet the ball, and get up the floor as quickly as possible in transition. This 132-minute Run and Jump Press video is a comprehensive overview of the full court run and jump defense.
