Elite Level Post Player Drills & Development
To develop their skills at an elite level, NBA players like Russell Westbrook, Kevin Love, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry turn to professional basketball trainer Rob Mcclanaghan. He has helped develop some of the game’s best post players and in this presentation he takes you through the same drills he uses with the likes of Anthony Davis and the WNBA’s Candace Parker.
Players learn how to create scoring opportunities with their back to the basket. McClanaghan works on catching and facing up, duck-ins, rebounding, and more. Regardless of position, players learn to become more effective scorers.
Back to the Basket Post Player Drills
The work beings close to the rim which helps players build the skills they need to progress and move further away from the basket. For every move and drill, Coach McClanaghan teaches the details that players need in order to beat defenders and score around the rim using no dribble, one dribble, or a combination of the two.
For each move, McClanaghan teaches a counter move to keep defenders off balance. The Turnaround Series helps players develop patience in working near the rim. They learn to use effective footwork, stay low, and beat defenders in the low post.
Catch and Face Post Player Drills
Post players move from the low block to the mid- and high post. To be effective in scoring from these areas, players must be able to catch the ball and square up to the basket to create scoring opportunities. Coach McClanaghan teaches a number of drills, which can all be used on the perimeter as well. This helps make post players more versatile.
By using the Jab Step, Coach McClanaghan shows a series of moves and counters that allow players to rip and attack the basketball using a spin back, 1-2 shot, or pushback shot.
Duck-Ins, Rebounding, and Trail Shot Post Player Drills
The final segment in the presentation involves duck-in moves and rebounding around the basket. Having these finishing skills is vital for any post player, especially against strong defenders. Coach McClanaghan talks about “holding the seal” which can help any post player gain an advantage when using these finishing moves.
You will see a great rebounding drill that helps develop quickness and hand-eye coordination. Players also learn to rebound, gain control, and finish on the offensive end. Another drill has posts run the floor. Players must be able to put the ball on the floor and finish with a jump shot. The jump shot drill is also a good conditioning drills for posts.
This is as good a video as there is on the market for developing post players. Coach McClanaghan gives you the drills and guides you through an effective post workout. Rent this post player drills & development DVD today.
