John Beilein (Rental)-John Beilein's Basketball Culture & Drills $9.50 $18.99
John Beilein Culture and Drills Learn how to run a successful basketball program from one of the best in the business. John Beilein has coached at every level from high school to junior college to four-year colleges and now the NBA. The underlying factors of his success are simple – culture and drill work. This John Beilein Culture video provide you with an inside look at how Coach Beilein has built winners everywhere he has been. Change as a Constant Throughout a career that has seen Beilein win three different conference Coach of the Year awards (MAAC, CAA, and Big Ten), Coach Beilein has had to adapt and change as the game has changed. One of those changes is the emphasis of the pick and roll in today’s game. More of the practice focus must be centered on the pick and roll offense as well as how to defend it. Another change is in the area of strength training. Twenty years ago, players were not involved in the type of offseason training they are now. With the right strength program, players improve their strength, agility, and athleticism. One of the big changes Coach Beilein made in his defensive philosophy was the use of the zone defense. When he moved from one conference to another, it forced him to take a look at how he was defending opponents and what defenses would give his teams the ability to be competitive. Learn John Beilein Culture. Things That Don’t Change In building a championship program, some things never change. One is skill development. Players must be able to handle the basketball and shoot it. Those things will never change and Beilein emphasizes drills that improve both skills. You’ll see a two-player drill designed to improve ball handling and one-handed passing. The Double Mikan Drill is also demonstrated. Players do the traditional Mikan Drill but with two basketballs and shoot for making 20 layups in 20 seconds or less. Another drill is the 3 Taps and In where post players tap the ball off the backboard three times before tapping it in the basket. The final drill you will see is 60 in 5, a shooting drill where players attempt to shoot 85 shots in five minutes with a goal of making 60. Shooters move around the perimeter and never shoot from the same spot twice in a row. This is an excellent video that shows you how building a culture and focusing on the things that never change can help transform your program. Rent the John Beilen Culture DVD today.

Kentucky Basketball Coaches Association Presents: High School Basketball Drills & Essentials Two veteran Kentucky high school basketball coaches and one college coach bring to you a plethora of ideas for planning practices, drills, and developing players in this video taken at the 2018 Kentucky Basketball Coaches Association clinic. Drew Cooper Coach Cooper is the head coach at Kentucky Wesleyan and is a two-time PAC Coach of the Year winner. Much of Cooper’s success can be attributed to his practice planning, which he discusses in his segment. You will see his Assumption Drill, which he uses at the start of practices to get players loose and mentally focused for the day. Coach Cooper believes in teaching players to read appropriately. He puts players in a half-court setup and gets them as many reps as possible teaching players to read defenses while using different screening actions. He will use 5-on-0 and 5-on-5 to teach the motion offense and rounds out his practice with a free throw focus drill to ensure players can make both free throws in a late-game situation. Scott Ruthsatz Coach Ruthsatz won state titles at Covington HS in 2014 and 2018. He highlights his typical practice routine beginning with the warmup. Ruthsatz then progresses through position specific breakdown drills, half- and full-court drills, and traditional shell drills. All the drills are competitive to make sure his teams play hard. The Kings 1-on-1 Drill has players working continuously to produce a defensive stop. The 3-on-3 Full Court drill teaches players to play to the whistle teaching athletes to develop ball security and how restrictions can create defensive intensity. Finally, Coach Ruthsatz shows you how to alter the Shell Drill and he adds in a special play that he likes to use in crunch time. Dwayne Murray Coach Murray is an assistant at Bowling Green HS and the former head coach at Monroe County HS where he won two state championships. Coach Murray presents some of his favorite practice drills and credits them with much of his success. The drills include those for developing ball handling skills, dribbling, rebounding, defense, shooting, and breaking the press. Jim Shannon (Rental)-How to Attack Trapping, Changing, & Special Defense $9.50 $18.99
Jim Shannon: How to Attack Trapping, Changing & Special Defenses Learn basketball offense drills from one of the great high school coaches of our time, Jim Shannon, how to beat attacking pressure defenses. These types of defenses can wreak havoc especially at the high school level, and Coach Shannon can show you how to make beating these defenses second nature. Shannon has over 500 career wins at New Albany HS in Indiana. He was the state’s Coach of the Year in 2016 and one of the reasons why was his ability to teach his players how to beat any high-pressure or specialty defense. Through a series of individual drills, breakdown drills, and ultimately team drills; Coach Shannon shares with you how to break the pressure defense. Individual Basketball Offense Drills One of Shannon’s favorite basketball offense drills is the Pull Back Crossover where a player attacks a cone on the floor and then retreats away from pressure and then uses a crossover dribble to change direction. The idea is to keep the body between the ball and the defender. Shannon offers coaching points reminding players to keep their heads up so they are able to see the defense as well as their teammates. Individual drills build the foundation for developing the skills necessary to beat pressure defenses. Players learn to come meet the ball against these defenses which helps them be strong with the ball in the face of pressure. Breakdown Baketball Offense Drills Four breakdown drills are introduced to attack high pressure trapping defenses. Coach Shannon’s drills allow your teams to work on multiple skills at once. Players learn to recognize traps and pass while under pressure as well as catch passes under pressure. While offensive players work on their skills, defensive players work on trapping and creating turnovers. One specific breakdown drill is the Texas Ringer Drill which teaches players to use their pivot and ball fakes as well as make strong passes in the heart of a defense. The drill can be extended to the half court forcing the defense to cover more area and allowing the offense to work on making good strong passes. Team Basketball Offense Drills Coach Shannon illustrates four team drills that simulate game situations for your players. Drills include 5-on-6, 1-2-1-1 press break, breaking a half-court 1-2-2 trap, and beating the box-and-1 defense. Coach also shows you three passing options for a trapped player, how to post up at center court to prevent a steal by a trapping defense, and how to create a scoring system when working on the press break. This 73-minute video conveys a wealth of knowledge from one the best coaching minds in the country. If breaking a press and beating trapping defenses is crucial to your success, this video is a must for your coaching library. Rent this great basketball offense drills DVD today.
