He describes his practice and how to get as many players and as many skills as possible. Rebounding and Defensive Drills Video is used by Coach Driscoll to demonstrate his favourite drills. He starts with a defensive mindset. The 4-on-3 Scramble drill, which is a disadvantage drill, turns into a transition scenario. This helps players to quickly switch from offense to defense and vice versa. 4-on-4 Shell is a drill that teaches athletes how to quickly turn from defense to offense. Driscoll then discusses the importance of POV Ball Screen Coverage. This drill is great for conditioning as it combines quick thinking and transition. Players must quickly defend their ball screen coverages. The Knicks rebounding drill will be next. Next, we'll explain three different rebounding drills. These will allow your players to practice different scenarios and rotations of rebounding. Shooting Drills and Transition Transition is Coach Driscoll's next topic. He shares some great drills that help to improve the little things that make Driscoll's teams succeed on the whole court. Many drills are built from different disadvantages. Driscoll also explains the process of how they perform all these drills over the course of a season or practice. Fast and Furious is one of DriscollÕs patented drills. It shows how DriscollÕs teams are so adept at shooting and attacking in transition. Circle Transition O-DÐO, another drill, combines all the practice they've had in 5-on-5 play. Driscoll believes that you should work in groups of three. He concludes by explaining three competition shooting drills. Modern 2 Game Offense for Basketball by Matt Figger Instructional Basketball Coaching Video
Matt Figger (Rental)-Modern 2 Game Offense for Basketball $18.99
The 2-Game Offense is a way to spread the floor and keep defenses guessing, while giving you great shot opportunities from the perimeter. This article provides a complete overview of the 2-Game Offense, and what makes it so successful. Optional and set plays that seamlessly flow into the 2-Game Offense. You will find key ball screens to make the 2-Game Offense more efficient, as well as drills, offensive rebounding, and coaching tips! To win basketball games, you must get the ball in the paint. To get to the key, you can create open threes and high-percentage shots. This will also allow teams to reach the free throw line. An offense can usually get there via the drive or post touch. This video will be shown by Coach Matt Figger. It focuses on the modern 2-Game offense, which focuses on getting the ball onto the paint through post touches while keeping the floor spread. These are the options and sets that make up 2-Game. They will show you how to put it into practice right away. You'll learn: Basic setup Options for perimeter and post Plays You will need to do all the necessary drills! Overview and Introduction to 2-Game Coach Matt Figger shares his reflections on the lessons learned as coaches during the COVID pandemic. He also explains how coaches have been able to learn from this experience and find ways to improve their effectiveness. Figger has modified the offense in response to analytics regarding the effectiveness of 3-point shots, points in the paint and guard drive time. Coach Figger demonstrates how the 2-Game Offense can help you be a more efficient post team, even when you don't have large players. This offense has many screen reads and cuts, making it difficult to monitor and very challenging to guard well. It also opens up the doors to great opportunities! 2Game Options Next Coach Figger will go over the nuts and bolts and each player's responsibilities and positioning. He demonstrates the proper setup to reach the correct spots and spacing for the offense. Coach Figger shows the post players how to use the ball to gain an advantage in paint regardless of how defense defends it. The offense's goal is to create 2-man games within the offensive flow. If the ball isn't directly entered into the post Coach Figger shows how to maintain pressure on the defense with a 2-man game at the perimeter and screen at the elbow. The cutter can choose to curl, fade or reject the ball. Each option is described in detail, along with how each player reacts to it. If everything is covered, Coach Figger shows you how to flow into an on ball screen to keep the attacking mentality going. The Pinch Post option can be a great way to keep the defense honest. Coach Figger then shows how to seamlessly flow into DHOs or ball screens straight out of the set. If 2-Game's cutter rejects the screen, Coach Figger will show how to maintain pressure by adding another option for post-up and a baseline stagger in order to create perimeter shots. Ball Screens Coach Figger loves to use ball screens in his offense. He shows how to keep things moving when there is a 2-Game breakdown. There are several options for running the ball screen: offensive rebounds, hitting the post again and back out, and any other breakdown in any of these actions. Drills Coach Figger demonstrates drills to help you develop your guards and posts in order to complete the 2-Game offense. He demonstrates to the posts his philosophy of getting under the defense and posting up in transition. He shows them how to manage two transition players and works on getting high-low looks. Drills can be used to remove guards from the elbow screening actions. Players will learn how to get the ball in by putting everything together in a 4-on-4 drill. While everyone goes through the basics of offense, the post player starts with an offensive advantage. Sets and Games Coach Figger wraps it all by describing a drill that he uses to learn how to play fast in the "150" game. Players will be taught how to move the ball quickly and make quick decisions. Coach Figger then demonstrates two ball screen plays, which can be used in the offense or as stand-alone plays. He also shows you how to seamlessly transition into 2-Game, regardless of whether the ball is passed ahead or dribbled. The whiteboard diagram of one his favorite zones sets is then completed. Do you want to control the pace and get the ball inside? This offense is great for that, and Coach Matt Figger will give you all the tools necessary to run the Modern 2-Game Offense. 64 minutes. 2022.
Matthew McCall: My Favorite Basketball Drills by Matthew McCall Instructional Basketball Coaching Video
Matthew McCall (Rental)-Matthew McCall: My Favorite Offensive Basketball Drills $18.99
UMass head coach Matthew McCall has had plenty of success everywhere he has been. From his early days of winning national championships as an assistant at Florida to winning Southern Conference titles as the head coach at Tennessee-Chattanooga and now as the leader of the UMass program, McCall has always been able to develop players’ offensive skills. In this video, he offers his favorites for getting the most out of your players in the offseason. Cone Drills The presentation starts with different cone drills that help build individual offensive skills. Coach McCall provides on-court demonstrations of drills that teach attacking the basket in the middle of the floor as well as those that focus on different finishes at the rim. Using a pad or a defender, players are taught how to hold off a defender and give players an idea of what to expect in game situations. Three Clean Stops Three Clean Stops is a defensive drill where the defense must get three clean stops before they can get off the floor. The drill forces defensive players to communicate and to be in the proper position in relation to the ball, including on the help side. The drill is competitive and forces players to guard the ball, be in great position at all times, and finish the possession with a box out or by creating a turnover. Find a Home When defenses force the ball out of your point guard’s hands with traps or presses, what do you do? The Find a Home drill helps with this. The ball starts in different areas of the floor with the goal to get into your offensive set from a variety of scenarios. Your team becomes more experienced with getting into the offense from unconventional situations. This is a great video by Coach McCall providing a number of practice drills that help to prepare teams in the offseason on both sides of the ball.
Matthew McCall: My Favorite Pick & Roll Drills by Matthew McCall Instructional Basketball Coaching Video
Matthew McCall (Rental)-Matthew McCall: My Favorite Pick & Roll Drills $18.99
To have success in today’s modern basketball, you have to understand the pick and roll. If there is one thing UMass head coach Matthew McCall knows, it’s the pick and roll. After spending ten years working with Billy Donovan at Florida, McCall understands the ins and outs of the spread pick and roll. In this video, he shares the basics of the offense and how to use it in transition and flow right into your half-court offense. Philosophy First, Coach McCall shares what makes a good spread pick and roll offense. Post players that can shoot from outside and have the ability to pass is a great place to start. This pulls defenders away from the rim. Another element is having guards that can read screens and that can deliver great passes. Transition and Game Situations A strong transition game is important in running the spread pick and roll. McCall wants his players to push the ball down the floor and get the ball to the paint. He then goes into the two basic actions his team uses to flow from transition into the spread pick and roll. The first is 5 Drag where the 5-man trails instead of the 4. They go right into a drag screen and force defenders to go over top of the screen. In Double to Special, both post players trail. This allows the offense to use a double drag screen and open the paint for a roller. Half-Court Offense There are numerous options in the spread pick and roll. The two that McCall highlights in this video are Special and Lift. Special is where post players get to the lane line extended and look to create a screen opportunity. Lift gives multiple scoring opportunities especially if you have a 4 that can shoot and a 5 that is a strong pick and roll player. If you have been searching for more about the spread pick and roll, this video from Coach McCall is a must-have. From philosophy to various actions, Coach McCall shows you how to run the spread pick and roll effectively.
Man to Man Set Plays, Ball Screen Offense Reads, & Breakdown Drills by Jamion Christian Instructional Basketball Coaching Video
Jamion Christian (Rental)-Man to Man Set Plays, Ball Screen Offense Reads, & Breakdown Drills $18.99
Jamion Christian, head coach at George Washington University, is known for executing set plays within an aggressive offensive system that dates back to his time at Siena and Mount St. Mary’s. In this open practice video, he shows you a number of those plays and shows you how your players can read the different looks they see from a defense. Christian won the Northeast Conference Coach of the Year award in 2017 after leading Mount St. Mary’s to a league championship, a conference tournament victory, and a berth in the NCAA tournament. There is something in this video for every coach. Offensive Package Half of the practice is spent on going through sets that lead into the ball screen offense. Players are taught how to read defenses, where to set screens, how to find open cutters, and various points of attack. Once the sets have been mastered, the half-court offense is reviewed. A variety of options are covered including attacking the rim and kicking the ball out for three-point attempts. Christian takes the time to reinforce the concepts that he wants his players to learn. Position Work Christian’s players develop a better sense of where shots should come from within the offense through position work. Post players, for example, work on footwork and passing against a defender. They also work on finishing as coaches use pads to make them go against contact. At the same time, guards work on coming off screens and attacking the paint. They also work on finishing at the rim or kicking the ball back out to a perimeter shooter. Defensive Situations The practice concludes with a defensive segment where Coach Christian breaks down actions his team will see from upcoming opponents. Christian gets into how they will defend certain actions like pin down screens. All coaches and managers are utilized as defenders learn to limit opponent’s visibility and their ability to swing the ball from one side of the floor to the other. This video is worth it just for the set plays alone, but there is so much more that any coach can take away from this practice video.
Man to Man Defense Drills & Concepts by David Richman Instructional Basketball Coaching Video
David Richman (Rental)-Man to Man Defense Drills & Concepts $18.99
Man to Man Defense Drills & Concepts Dave Richman began his coaching career at North Dakota State University in 2015 by taking the Bison to the NCAA tournament and winning the Summit League Coach of the Year award. He has produced three 20-win seasons and three NCAA berths and a big part of his success is due to defense. In this video, you get an inside look at an NDSU practice that reveals the foundation of Coach Richman’s man to man defense philosophy. Coach Richman shows you over two dozen drills that develop defensive skills like on-ball defense, closeouts, help defense, and more. Essential Drills & Skills The most important skill in successful team defense is also the hardest one to master – defending the ball. Coach Richman places a great deal of emphasis on challenging ball handlers with a number of daily drills. Two drills teach and reinforce the proper technique for closeouts. Two different 1-on-1 drills continue the refinement of on-ball defense. Players learn to force drives away from the rim while staying in front of the ball handler through the first two defensive slides. Three-Hoop Campaign is an awesome drill that forces players to compete to improve their on-ball defense. Coach Richman also shows some 2-on-2 and 3-on-3 drills that work on other aspects of defense like help and rebounding. He also shares his “Hit, Pinch, Chase” concept that helps defenders maximize their chances of securing a rebound. Transition & Switching Successful defenses are the ones that transition from offense to defense quickly. The Scramble Conversion drill challenges players to rotate through disadvantage situations in transition while also pushing the offense to score quickly with a reduced shot clock. Richman uses 4-on-4 drills to demonstrate how the Bison handle screens. Learn how to switch any offensive action that brings two players near the ball. Coach Richman explains how to defend the pick-and-roll and how to defend four different scenarios that create unique challenges for defenses. This is an outstanding look at how a Division I basketball program teaches its man-to-man defense and is perfect for any coach looking to do the same. Rent this Man to Man Defense DVD today.
