Ron Hughey
(Rental)-Dominating with Defense: Run & Jump & Pressure
$18.99
Turn both your half-court and full-court defenders into a swarming of ball-hawks that wear the badge of "aggressive defense" proudly!
Build-up drills are used to increase full-court defensive pressure, intensity and toughness. They can be done anywhere on the court: 1-on-1 competitive drills, Mirror Drills, 1-on-1 Press Drills, Circle-Trap Drills, 4-on-4 Full Court Trap Drills, 5-on-5 Short Side Drills, the "No Escape" Drills, the PivotÐAttack Drills, Jump-AndÐSwipe Drills and many more
This article covers Run and Jump Defense Essentials. It includes key concepts, coaching points, and drills that will instill an aggressive defensive mindset.
Apply full-court pressure concepts to half court defensive situations.
Ronald Hughey is a fast-paced player. His teams are able to play fast, high-speed offense or a defensive style that is in-your face. They make their opponents work hard every time they play them. Many coaches believe that a pressure-style defense on the defensive side can create a fun environment for their program.
Hughey's play style has resulted in his teams being among the Top-20 in creating turnovers every season. It has also helped his teams to limit their opponents' shooting percentage to 24%
This video gives viewers a detailed look at the University of Houston's head womenÕs coach and shows how he builds his pressure defense. It also shows how he uses run-and-jump presses to create transition scoring opportunities and force turnovers.
Build-Up Drills To Teach Run-And-Jump Pressure
When it comes to learning new concepts or playing pressure defense, it is crucial to be able to correct and teach mistakes. Hughey uses breakdown drills in this video to teach his players how to play pressure defense.
The drill is called "Press 1-on-1 ". This allows defensiveplayers to learn how to get closer to their opponent's baseline and short corner. This technique helps help-side defenders understand the position they should be in for the ball to fly. The next drill is the Mirror Drill. This allows defenders to learn how to cut off an offensive player while the ball handler continues to apply pressure. It helps to create a culture that applies constant pressure.
Hughey continues with a demonstration and description of how to get in the first trap and lure the opposing offense up the sideline into your trap. The drill 'Reversal Pass" teaches defenses how to reverse the pass. It puts your players in a position where they can intercept the defense and read it. This helps your players to anticipate what your opponent will do next.
Half Court Defense
Hughey's presentation about pressure defense is completed with an overview of the game in the half-court. It still applies the same pressure principles. The Cougars' head coach explains to viewers why defenders should be placed a "third" distance from the person they are protecting. This forces your opponents into constant pressure and allows you to provide proper help-side defense simultaneously.
Your program can enjoy pressure defense. This allows your defense the ability to force your opponent into turnovers and rushed shots. It also creates havoc in full-court or half-court situations.
This video is high-energy, informative and fun. Ron Hughey gives viewers the opportunity to learn from him about teaching techniques that can help them prepare their players for a fast-paced style of basketball in a system that emphasizes aggressive defense pressure.

Unleashing the Fast Break Transition with the Kelbick System: A Game-Changing Guide
Introduction
Welcome to our comprehensive guide on utilizing the Kelbick System for fast break transition offense, a strategic approach that will revolutionize your team's ability to score in transition. In this article, we will delve into the intricacies of the Kelbick System, providing you with expert insights, advanced techniques, and detailed breakdowns to help you outrun and outscore your opponents on the basketball court. Whether you're a coach, player, or enthusiast, this guide is your key to unlocking the full potential of the fast break transition with the Kelbick System.
Understanding the Kelbick System
The Kelbick System is a highly effective offensive strategy developed by renowned basketball coach Coach Kelbick. This system emphasizes quick decision-making, precise passing, and intelligent positioning to maximize scoring opportunities in fast break transition situations. By implementing the Kelbick System, your team can gain a significant advantage by capitalizing on fast break opportunities and scoring before the defense has a chance to set up.
Key Principles of the Kelbick System
1. Speed and Conditioning
The foundation of the Kelbick System lies in speed and conditioning. Players must be in peak physical condition to execute fast breaks efficiently and effectively. This includes developing speed, agility, and endurance to outrun opponents and maintain a relentless pace throughout the game.
2. Quick Decision-Making
In fast break situations, quick decision-making is crucial. Players must make split-second choices on whether to pass, shoot, or attack the basket. The Kelbick System emphasizes the importance of making smart decisions under pressure, reading the defense, and capitalizing on scoring opportunities in transition.
3. Precise Passing and Timing
Precise passing and timing are essential elements of the Kelbick System. Players must deliver accurate and well-timed passes to teammates in stride, allowing for seamless transitions and efficient scoring opportunities. Additionally, players without the ball must anticipate passes and make sharp cuts to create passing lanes and keep the defense off balance.
Implementing the Kelbick System for Fast Break Transition
To successfully implement the Kelbick System for fast break transition offense, teams must focus on key strategies and techniques. Let's explore some of the essential elements that will enhance your team's ability to score in transition:
1. Conditioning and Speed Development
Developing speed and conditioning is paramount for executing fast break transitions effectively. Implement a rigorous training regimen that focuses on improving players' speed, agility, and endurance. This includes sprints, interval training, and specific drills designed to enhance explosiveness and stamina.
2. Communication and Court Awareness
Effective communication and court awareness are critical during fast break situations. Players must communicate with each other, calling out openings, and signaling for the ball. Furthermore, maintaining a high level of court awareness enables players to recognize scoring opportunities and make quick decisions based on the positioning of teammates and defenders.
3. Outlet Passes and Quick Transitions
The outlet pass is a vital component of the Kelbick System for fast break transition. After securing a defensive rebound, players must immediately look for an outlet pass to initiate the fast break. The outlet pass should be accurate, delivered with speed, and aimed at advancing the ball up the court quickly. Quick transitions, with all players sprinting up the court, help exploit defensive vulnerabilities and create scoring chances before the defense can regroup.
4. Spacing and Timing
Proper spacing and timing are crucial during fast break transitions. Players must sprint to
the appropriate spots on the court, ensuring optimal spacing and creating passing lanes. This allows for quick and efficient ball movement, setting up scoring opportunities for trailing teammates. Timing is equally important, as players must have a sense of when to attack the basket, make cuts, or pull up for open jump shots.
5. Offensive Rebounding and Second-Chance Opportunities
The Kelbick System encourages offensive rebounding during fast break transitions. Players should be relentless in crashing the boards, anticipating missed shots, and capitalizing on second-chance opportunities. Offensive rebounds not only lead to immediate scoring chances but also put additional pressure on the defense and create a continuous flow of scoring opportunities for your team.
The Benefits of the Kelbick System for Fast Break Transition
Implementing the Kelbick System for fast break transition offense offers numerous benefits that can elevate your team's scoring ability and overall performance. Let's explore some key advantages:
1. Increased Scoring Opportunities
By capitalizing on fast break transitions, the Kelbick System creates an abundance of scoring opportunities for your team. The emphasis on speed, quick decision-making, and precise passing allows you to score before the defense can set up. This fast-paced approach puts constant pressure on opponents and significantly increases your team's chances of putting points on the board.
2. Defensive Disruption
Executing the Kelbick System in fast break situations disrupts the opposing team's defense. The speed and precision of your transitions catch defenders off guard, forcing them into reactive positions and making it difficult for them to defend effectively. This disruption leads to defensive breakdowns, mismatches, and scoring advantages for your team.
3. Momentum Swing
Successful fast break transitions not only lead to immediate scoring but also create momentum swings in the game. The high-speed, high-energy style of the Kelbick System can electrify your team and energize the crowd. This momentum swing can demoralize opponents, provide a psychological advantage, and fuel your team's confidence throughout the game.
4. Increased Tempo and Control
The Kelbick System enables your team to dictate the tempo of the game. By implementing fast break transitions, you keep the game at a high pace, forcing opponents to adapt to your speed. This increased tempo allows your team to maintain control, create mismatches, and exploit defensive weaknesses.
Conclusion
The Kelbick System for fast break transition offense is a game-changer that can elevate your team's scoring ability and overall performance on the basketball court. By implementing the key principles, strategies, and techniques outlined in this guide, you will equip your team with the tools necessary to outrun, outscore, and outmaneuver opponents in transition. Remember, mastering the Kelbick System requires practice, conditioning, and a commitment to executing quick decisions under pressure. So, embrace the fast break, unleash your team's potential, and watch as your fast break transitions become a formidable weapon. The path to fast break excellence starts here!
Brian Field
(Rental)-Chaos Full Court Pressure Defense
$18.99
Brian Field has gained so much knowledge from one of the best brains of the NBA world. From Dave Price to Kipper Todd to David Carrier he has been learning from all of the greats of the game. Field has also made a full court pressing system which is based on the details and philosophies from each coach. Well, to be very honest his system of full court defensive system is no doubt one of the most chaotic system in the Basketball and the reason is his abilities to create unthinkable traps in the court.
Black 1-2-1-1
Well, in the typical 1-2-1-1 full court trapping defense, all you have to do is to increase your speed up and force some rushed shots and passes. But the case is different in this case as the coach field uses the same philosophy but there is an addition of the flooding system. The moment ball gets into the front court and into the deep corner, the defense floods the paint that eventually saves the rim from easy baskets. The coach Field uses this system off of any made basket in the paint.Whenever you are forcing the opponent player to play a false shot or turn the ball over, your team will be there to assist you and
will help you create re-tapping angles and opportunities. Communication is everything for this kind of defense.
White Run and Jump
Man-to-man-run and jump press are shown by the coach Field while building on his defense system. He has explained everything so beautifully and has highlighted key points like the element of surprise and why he doesnt this as a typical run and jump press. The moment defense turns their back at the half court, the trail defender is being used by the coach Field for sprinting ahead and trap just after half court. This will allow a long, cross the court skip pass as an open look out of the trap. The team will be able to make create deflections and pressure all over the floor when they take away the passing lanes with off-ball defenders.
Full 2-2-1
This is kind of a traditional approach which is being used by the coach Field. He uses the 2-2-1 full court press to lure the opponents in traps and forces them to make mistakes just pass half court. So, its all about breaking into the strengths of the opponents and forcing them up the sideline into a trap with his most athletic and long players. When the ball starts moving up the floor, the trapping players start moving up the floor as well. Eventually, the players start to trust each other as they will set out once the traps occur to cover open areas.
Blue 2-3 Zone Trap
The coach Field tries to change the pace while taking advantage of the stoppage in play. Using a packed in style of play, guards start the implementation of the trap the moment ball gets below the free throw line. The defenders will be focusing on trapping in the deep corner and only allowing a skip pass.
Pink 1-3-1
So, there is another technique which is very effective in the Fields Chaos pressing system which is Pink 1-3-1. In this half court trap technique, the players fly all over the floor trapping in the four corners. This trapping defense is being used by the coach Field to trap in the high corners, low corners, or all over; this style of defense is used at a stoppage of play or during a timeout.

Robert Schlosser
(Rental)-Comprehensive Guide To The Flex Offense
$15.99
Comprehensive Guide to the Flex Offense
Bob Schlosser has built an NCAA Division III power at Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania using his version of the Flex offense. A former head coach at Allentown (PA) Central Catholic, Schlosser has totaled more than 500 wins in his illustrious career. Schlosser’s take on the Flex eliminates the down screen in an effort to create easy scoring opportunities. He breaks it all down in this informative video.
Flex Offense Continuity
Coach Schlosser details exactly how his Flex offense works and how he uses it to create open shots. He will outline some of his basic rules that his team uses depending on where the ball is passed. You will see a number of variations to the Flex one of which is the use of flare action rather than the traditional down screen. Schlosser feels this allows for more dribble penetration and it also prevents defenses from overplaying passing lanes.
Here, you will also see some of the counters that Schlosser uses to keep defenses from just going through the motions. These counters can be used to produce an easy score against defenses that do simply go through the motions or those that attempt to overplay the Flex.
Flex Offense Breakdown Drills
Coach Schlosser breaks down the actions of the Flex offense into seven different drills. Each drill helps with the installation of the offense and reinforces the actions of the Flex. The drills work on basic skills like getting into the triple threat position as well as simulating how players are to get into the offense from various spots on the floor. Other drills work on backdoor cuts, passing to the open man, and finishing at the rim.
Entry Passes and Out of Bounds Plays
Coach Schlosser uses seven different entry passes into the Flex offense each with its own variations. This keeps a defense off balance and allows for open looks early in the offense. Adding different counters with all of these entry passes makes it virtually impossible for an opponent to get a bead on all of the possible actions of Coach Schlosser’s Flex offense.
In addition, you will see how Schlosser uses sideline and baseline out of bounds plays to get right into the Flex. With all of the possible combinations and actions, defenses have a hard time defending Schlosser’s system.
Flex Transition Offense
While the Flex is known as a half-court offense, Coach Schlosser takes it a step further by expanding it to the full court. By using stagger screens and screen-the-screener actions, Schlosser’s teams get a lot of great looks at the basket early in the possession. He shows you two of his set plays off the break that allow for both a post-up and a double stagger for your best shooter.
This 57-minute video offers a unique take on the Flex and is a must for those looking to install the Flex or improve on their own version of the offense. Rent this Flex Offense DVD today.

One-hand shooting: Viglione presents different drills that develop the fundamentals of good shooting form. Shooters are built from the ground up. They must be balanced and have the right footwork in order to become great shooters. These drills are the building blocks that must be routinely drilled and mastered.
Catch and Shoot: Players must develop a rhythm in catching and shooting from different angles on different spots all over the floor. These drills work on those various catching angles, footwork, and balance. The drills help players improve all aspects of shooting including range and accuracy. Viglione progressively adds defense to the drills to help players master their shooting technique at game speed.
Shooting of the Move: Players have to learn to create space in order to take a shot. Viglione includes drills that teach players to get open by setting up their opponent to create the space necessary for an open shot. Players learn to cut off screens and read the defense to get an open shot in rhythm.
Viglione places a lot of emphasis on proper footwork and shot mechanics. These must be mastered using these drills. Players’ shooting will improve and they will be much better prepared to create shots on their own or come off of a screen for an open shot.

Bob Huggins
(Rental)-Bob Huggins: Full & Half Court Pressure Defense
$18.99
Bob Huggins: Full & Half-Court Pressure Defense
West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins is the master of pressure defense and shares with you system in this video. Huggins has over 850 career wins and has taken his teams (Akron, Cincinnati, and West Virginia) to 24 NCAA tournament berths. He has done it largely because of his relentless full-court pressure defense.
In this video, Huggins gets into the details of his defense, how it developed, keys he uses with his players, and drills that he uses on a daily basis.
Press Philosophy
For Huggins, pressure defense is all about effort and activity. You will hear Huggins talk about how to encourage players to play with maximum effort. Coach Huggins will show you how the principles of half-court defense are extended into the full court.
One of the most basic principles in Huggins’ system is forcing a ball handler to go to his weak hand. Another is making big post players dribble. Huggins likes to expose weak ball handlers. His defense does not give up any space and pressures opponents for all 40 minutes of the game. Players must pressure the ball at all times, deny inbound passes, and look for trapping opportunities. After a made basket, Huggins’ players immediately find their man and deny them the ball.
Disrupt Spacing
Offenses are based upon spacing which can help provide direct passes that lead to good shots. Coach Huggins’ defense forces teams to pass over, under, or around, but never through. Forcing passes that are not direct translates into poorer shots for offenses. Huggins believes in fronting the post to force lobs which take time and allows for the defense to rotate and get into position to defend it.
Trapping
Huggins makes all of his players constantly look for traps. Defenders force the ball to lines and give help defense in line. This leads to trap situations and also prevents direct drives to the basket. Players are taught to never play with their hands down. When they do, they are easier to screen.
4-on-4 + 1 Drill
When you press and trap, you are going to have to play at a disadvantage at times. To prepare for those situations, Huggins uses this drill which he demonstrates for you. In 4-on-4 + 1, the defense plays at a disadvantage. The defense must rotate properly and pressure the ball to take away direct passes. Those playing help defense are on the help line and defenders one pass away are in the passing lane.
Q&A Session
Huggins finishes the session with a question and answer session. He is asked about pressing on a miss, trapping on a ball screen, and much more. If you are looking for a defensive system that can really frustrate opponents, Coach Huggins’ DVD is for you.

Bo Ryan’s Defensive System for Success
Hall of Fame coach Bo Ryan shares his secrets for a defense that is synonymous with his name. The former Wisconsin head coach won seven Big Ten titles (three conference tournament and four regular season) in his career and took the Badgers to back-to-back Final Four appearances in 2014 and ’15. His lifetime winning percentage of .762 and his nearly 800 career victories are a testament to the pressure defense that Ryan’s teams played.
If you are looking to turn up the heat and pressure of your defense, Ryan will show you how in this video. You will hear some of his general principles of defense as well as his overall philosophy. Coach Ryan shares a number of drills and strategies and also discusses his suffocating Diamond press.
Defensive Drills
Coach Ryan shares 12 practice drills that give your players the tools they need to become better individual defenders. The drills help establish the foundation for your team defense. Coach Ryan begins with a progression of drills that train on-ball defense. It begins with the stance, lateral movement, reaction time, and more. You will see the Two Deads and a Charge Drill which teaches players how to direct a dribbler up the floor, how to apply pressure in a dead ball situation, and how to take a charge.
Other drills work on such defensive basics as close outs, denial defense, and beating screens. Ryan demonstrates three competitive drills that teach players to protect the rim with great help defense and communication. The 4-o-4 Post Drill adds a player at the high post. Defenders must react to contain the drive.
Post Defense
One of Bo Ryan’s Defensive System principles is to never allow a talented big man touch the ball in the post. You will see how Ryan coaches post denial without getting exposed to seals. Players learn to fight for position to front the post and keep the offense guessing with a strategy that denies the pass into the high post.
Rebounding
Another of Ryan’s key principles is defensive rebounding. Nothing frustrates great defenses like giving up offensive rebounds. Coach Ryan shares some insight on individual rebounding success. He also offers an awesome drill that will help your players improve their rebounding abilities.
Defensive Tactics
Opponents will try all sorts of screening actions against a man-to-man defense. Coach Ryan discusses how his teams deal with seven types of screens. You will also see two different ways to deal with double screens. The whole idea for Ryan is to force opponents into lowest percentage plays.

Basketball Practice with Brad Underwood
The first part of the second basketball practice video is devoted to the fast-paced offense and the press break. Players warm up with Star Passing, which eventually builds into 5-on-5 and even 5-on-7 scrimmages. Underwood also breaks his players into position groups where they go further in detail on the fundamentals needed to break the press.
Coach Underwood shifts to defense and begins with a lecture segment. He shares a wealth of information about his half-court man-to-man. He describes the terminology and teaching points he and his staff use to teach players aggressive denial defense. The basis of his defensive philosophy is the concept of up-the-line, on-the-line denial. No direct passes are to be allowed. As a result, teams must become more one-on-one minded.
Basketball Practice - Defending Ball Screens
Underwood also goes into his three ways of defending ball screens. Blue forces the dribbler to the baseline away from the ball screen. Red is a hard hedge used to force the dribbler up the sideline on the offense’s right side of the floor. White is used against flat ball screens in the middle of the floor.
Full of great content on both offense and defense, Coach Underwood’s video set is a great addition to any coach’s collection! Rent this basketball practice DVD today.
