He began his coaching career in 1993 at the University of Tampa where he helped coach them to a NCAA Division II National Championship. The next season he joined his alma mater, Sacramento City College. When Jerry Weinstein retired in 1998, Andy was promoted to replace him. That 1st season, he led the Panthers to a CCCAA Championship. Andy stayed head coach for 14 years with a record o 427-205-2 with one state title. In addition to coaching the Panthers McKay also was pitching coach of the Chatham A's in 1996, managed the Anchorage Glacier Pilots in 2006, and managed the La Crosse Loggers of the Northwoods League for five years (2008-2012) along with winning a league championship his final year. Coach McKay was a Peak Performance Coordinator with the Colorado Rockies for 3 years as well.
