- Here are 11 quick hitting drills that will help you fine tune your set plays
Coach Tom Izzo shows off his mastery of setting up plays. Izzo shows 11 quick hits from the Quick Strike and Thumbs Down sets. Each play offers multiple counter looks and isolation opportunities. Izzo also uses a warm-up drill called the O'Neill Drill. This drill represents his entire defensive system. All of the components of a competitive drill are rolled into one: player communication, decision-making and transition offense. Izzo believes that this drill can be used to train your team for any defensive situation they may encounter in any game. The 2-on-1 and 5-on-5 progressions place pressure on the defense by using a numbers disadvantage. It requires communication and effective help-side defense each time they go down the floor.
